I want it but I’m scared

OP posts:
Clairey844 · 07/09/2022 18:48

Yes! Had it in 2010 before we went travelling. Some of the best money we ever spent (partner had it done too) x

Hillsidehigh · 07/09/2022 18:48

Yes, wish I’d done it years earlier

Gardenclems · 07/09/2022 18:49

Yes, it’s an absolute game changer.

why do you want it and what is putting you off?

Yes. I had it 15 years ago. I need glasses again now but that is age related...

Eyesopenwideawake · 07/09/2022 18:50

Yes, had both eyes done at the same time in 2004. Ditched the glasses I'd been wearing for 30 years (not the same pair!). Still got perfect distance sight although I now need reading glasses. Best thing I ever did.

HelloBunny · 07/09/2022 18:52

Yes & no. Vision is great. Fading a bit now, but I don’t think smartphones help the situation.

But the dry eyes are uncomfortable. I use eyedrops, etc as much as I did with contact lenses.

I also miss the feeling of putting my glasses on & resting my eyes, once home. Now when my eyes are tired there’s no relief.

Rosebud1302 · 07/09/2022 18:53

Absolutely. Worth every single penny I spent and more.

mommybear1 · 07/09/2022 18:55

Yes love not having to wear glasses or contacts I'm about 13 years on from having them done and I do not regret it.

powershowerforanhour · 07/09/2022 18:56

Yes 16 years ago. Was and is the best money ever spent. I was really short sighted- I used not to recognise people walking past in the street if I didn't have my glasses on. I've just looked up from my phone and can see each individual leaf on the birch tree at the bottom of my garden. It's like magic.

HaveringWavering · 07/09/2022 18:59

Yes. Minus 6.5 in both eyes. Glasses and contacts from age 13 to age 38.

Had it done ten years ago and I often forget I ever needed glasses. Quick, painless and you can see straight away. It's amazing.

I was warned that I might get long sighted and need reading glasses. I'm 49 and it's not happened yet.

Being able to see when you walks up in the morning is awesome.

sintrawest · 07/09/2022 18:59

Yes I had it and don’t regret. I had to have it redone on left eye as it didn’t fully correct and it still didn’t get it up to perfect but close enough.

i was told you can get dry eyes after but I haven’t - think often if you got dry eyes beforehand then you’re likely to still have dry eyes after the procedure anyway

Abraxan · 07/09/2022 18:59

Yes!

Had both eyes done about 6 years ago and it's been great.

HaveringWavering · 07/09/2022 18:59

*wake up

Dinneronmybfpillow · 07/09/2022 19:02

Nope. I had it done 10 years ago when I was too young and my eyes were still actively deteriorating. Perfect vision for a while but then they got worse again. £2000 for perfect vision for a bit but now I'm back in glasses.

Make sure your prescription is stable first OP.

notprincehamlet · 07/09/2022 19:03

Yes and no - having worn glasses since primary school it was just amazing to be able to see without them but the effects were short lived for me

Parky04 · 07/09/2022 19:08

I had it done in 2003 and it was the best money I have ever spent!

DoodlePug · 07/09/2022 19:11

Had it done about 7 years ago. Don't regret it and I'd do it again but it didn't go too smoothly, got an infection in one eye and vision has never been perfect.

I found it very painful afterwards, couldn't open my eyes with tears streaming down my face for hours, which really worried me because they say it's painless and you can see straight away but apparently this is normal too 🙄

Very dry eyes for a long time afterwards, and now very watery eyes.

Sorry if this adds to your anxiety but assume you want to hear both sides of the story. The actual procedure was fine (except being kept waiting for 2 hours, not good when you're paying £7k!).

I'd still say do it. But accept you'll probably still need reading glasses around 50.

Hopeislost · 07/09/2022 19:12

Yes, I wish I'd done it years earlier! Definitely the best money I've ever spent!

StrandedStarfish · 07/09/2022 19:28

Nope. I was long sighted,. My eyesight reverted back within 5 years

Baby2needsaname · 07/09/2022 19:31

would love to get this done - does anyone have any recommendations on where to go/how to find a reputable company?

Oliveandbay · 07/09/2022 19:34

100% best decision and money ever spent. Truly been life changing for me

Goldendoodlemum · 07/09/2022 19:42

Yep, best £4.5k I have ever spent! Had mine done 4 years ago and still wake up amazed that I can see without glasses.

Namechangedone · 07/09/2022 19:44

It was the best thing I've ever spent money on! Had it done about 5 years ago, and had no issues at all. Wish I had done it sooner.

latetothefisting · 07/09/2022 19:49

yes - agree with pp's who said best thing I've ever spent money on.

the poster who asked about where to get it done - I did ultralase, but also went to a consultation with optical express - sometimes on these threads people advise to avoid the chains and spend more money getting it done at private clinics or specialist eye hospitals, but I don't really see the point - the whole benefit of the big chains is they do the op 1000s of times a year so have the benefit of huge experience.

usually the surgeons who do the surgery are the same ones who operate privately/NHS anyway - they give you the name and you speak to/meet them in a separate app beforehand and you can research them if you want.

BarbaraWoodlouse · 07/09/2022 19:53

Yes, game changer. No regrets at all. Some reaction to lights (night driving and reading white on black) but the ability to see on waking up/flights/swimming is priceless.
