Is there a recommended upper age limit?

Oh yes, me! Had it done 11 years ago and vision is still good!

definitely worth doing - it wasn’t painful (although it wasn’t an enjoyable experience) - it was quick though! Recovery took a couple of days - but it wasn’t too bad. Just a bit like you have been peeling onions - so fine when your eyes are closed but streaming when open. Only lasted a day or so though!

no problems for me and so far no changes to my vision. In fact an optician once said they had done a very neat job.

you do have to accept that it might not last but I didn’t like contacts and found glasses a bit of a pain so was happy to have even a few years without them!

Yes - had it done about 1999, and I was just out in the rain and thinking how much better than having to choose between steamed up and blotchy or just blurred, which was my main reason for having it done. I have recently got reading glasses (am now 50), but they always said that would happen, and that wasn't the reason I had it done, so it's cool.

Best money I ever spent. 9 Years now and vision still bob on

itsthesoundofthepolice · 08/09/2022 04:56

No. Mine lasted only 5-6 yrs and I'm back wearing glasses. Broken down that's £500 per year... and far more than I'd have been spending on glasses.
My prescription was stable but still deteriorated fairly quickly and I probably needed glasses after 4yrs but put it off.

The procedure itself was absolutely fine. Slight discomfort until I got home and had a nap. The most annoying part was not being by able to wear makeup for the healing time.

Has anyone with minor shortsightedness done it and been happy? I was gung ho but my optometrist said because my prescription is very mild, I might end up needing reading glasses very soon, possibly even immediately. I'm someone who spends a lot of time reading / on computer / phone so the idea of going from one pair of glasses, to a more annoying pair of glasses, turned me off.

EBearhug · 08/09/2022 10:01

I had -5 in one eye and -2 in the othand it's been over 20 years before I needed reading glasses. But it depends on your age - if you in your 40s, you'll need reading glasses in a few years. It's just part of aging.

Yes, no regrets. I was so nearsighted I couldn't even read books without glasses. I had it done nearly 20 years ago, and just know it doesn't always stick once you get older. I am now nearsighted enough again to need glasses when I drive and watch tv. But mostly I can see well enough to get around. I could get a 'touch up' but probably my corneas are too thin now.
