Period Dignity Officer is suing the group that appointed him

BBC story

He's claiming sex discrimination. So many people have said that this appointment should have been exempt from the Equalities Act, I wonder if he'll succeed?

He's also claiming he was sacked, whereas the statements so far have been that the post was being removed, which isn't the same thing.

It sounds like his departure will be just as much of a dog's breakfast as his arrival. I hope he doesn't win.

"the most qualified person for the position"

What the hell did they do, wrestle for it?!

Omg it's a long time since I have burst out laughing at a Mnet poster. But that tickled me!!

TheUsualChaos · 08/09/2022 01:18

It's an absolute mess. Luckily the vast majority of the general public see the whole shambles for the ridiculous farce that it is. But suspect he will still gain significantly out of it which is a depressing thought.

Why would a man want that job title anyway? It's just fucking weird.

WandaWomblesaurus · 08/09/2022 01:23

No decent man would take that role.

Also there's a really funny picture of him on a horse. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11185301/amp/Scotlands-period-dignity-officer-role-given-MAN-AXED.html

What is the relationship between him and the woman who keeps hiring him? Because he's certainly had a few benefits from it.

The same reason that men seem intent on dismantling womens spaces and boundaries - as a way to control the narrative, control women and do whatever the fuck they like unchallenged by anyone interested in safeguarding.

I hope he wins…they gave him a job, then they got rid of the job as a sneaky way to avoid sacking him unlawfully.

he isn’t the problem here, he was given a role, whoever chose him was the problem. But he has been subjected to abuse, with nothing to show for it…I hope he gets a big fat payout, I would want one in that situation

TheUsualChaos · 08/09/2022 01:38

As a PP said, whilst I'm dismayed at this situation, I'm also very interested to know the details. Like the motives of who appointed him for example.

This feels ultimately about putting women in their place. "You want equality? Well this is it." Maybe also an element of competitive wokeness.

RosalindsAFuckingNightmare · 08/09/2022 01:39

Has he been sacked? I thought the job had been withdrawn? There is a world of difference between a job being withdrawn and someone being sacked.

Pixiedust1234 · 08/09/2022 02:03

Well I can see why that woman keeps giving him jobs after seeing those news pictures 😂 she really does want him grateful.

I cant decide between the one with the horse or the one with the cute puppy though sits on naughty step

CanThisBe · 08/09/2022 08:04

Surely any backlash should be against the recruitment panel. I'd expectbthere to be some sort of internal inquiry/disciplinary process, if as it seems things were manipulated to get a friend in an unsuitable job.

However, having been appointed and having faced all this because of the employer's poor conduct, I don't balme him.

picklemewalnuts · 08/09/2022 08:09

I wonder whether he's getting backlash personally. He looks like a high profile kind of guy. Is he getting personal abuse of the puerile 'Here comes tampax man' kind?
I can imagine being made notorious for this situation would be hard going.

balalake · 08/09/2022 08:17

Regardless of who was appointed, that in a supposedly rich country there is period poverty and so the need for a person to promote dignity that should already be there, is perhaps the worst thing of all about this.

CrossStichQueen · 08/09/2022 08:25

Women are told constantly by certain groups that our sex is irrelevant, that males can be females, females can be males yadda yadda yadda yet suddenly when it matters to a man sexisim is real and so is sex.

You are right, he hasn't been sacked he still has A job just not the new role he applied for (the role has been withdrawn due to the backlash and concern for further backlash I would think). So what is he suing against?

LovingTheseAutumnSnippets · 08/09/2022 11:54

The shear arrogance of him taking that job.
The blatant disregard for fair, and equal recruitment processes by his “mate”.
The stupidity of the local government to let this happen.

I hope he does kick up a fuss and highlight the this omni-shambles which will lead to it not happening again.

He was called a paedophile and a pervert on news social media pages.

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 07/09/2022 19:01

I suspect that they expected lots of praise for being so incredibly gender neutral or whatever and did not expect the massive backlash.

I think you've hit it on the head. They appointed a man to get publicity but expected positive publicity not the negative stuff they got.

But there is that element of jobs for the boys going on too.

How do we know it wasn't a fair recruitment process? This hasn't been proven unless I missed it. I used to work with FOI's and if I remember right if there is less than 13 applicants then they can't reveal how many applicants/details etc there were.

albapunk · 08/09/2022 12:05

I do feel sorry for this man. The media and shitty job title made an absolute mockery of him and set the stage for abuse and ridicule. His job was essentially in a project management capacity, with a working party made of of women doing the majority of the boots on the ground work.

Was he the right person for the job? Maybe not but being a female doesn't automatic mean I'd be the right person for the job either as some posters have suggested. I have no idea about laws, legislation, organising a team, liaseing with product distributors etc

They knew this would cause a riot and he was set up an absolute belter as far as I'm concerned. The abuse I read directed towards him was vile and came from women, not men. Calling him a pedophile, a pervert, threatening him with physical violence...

sleepymum50 · 08/09/2022 12:09

Does anyone know what the salary was?

Only asking because I’m nosey.

I agree could have been a totally different outcome with a different job title and no big PR article about it which totally focused on the fact he was a man, there are men dealing with administering the free access in other LA's across Scotland - it isn't new.

Arbesque · 08/09/2022 12:29

It's a stupid title and the whole thing was stupidly handled.

knittingaddict · 08/09/2022 12:34

RausageSoul · 07/09/2022 18:48

I'm pretty sure the job would have been a policy role office based. Not visiting young girls and handing out Sanpro?

So?

32K is what was advertised

I heard Woman’s Hour has invited Jason on to the show to speak about his appointment but that can’t happen now due to the legal action.

What a shame, sure he was aiming for Love Island next. Given he is still employed by the College I also think that would be against the terms of his employment. Seems he won't come out of this in any way to his advantage now.
