5 minute/store cupboard desserts?

Acunningruse · 06/09/2022 20:24

Having a mind blank. (Lovely) PILs coming tomorrow night but for a quick dinner before we go out somewhere. Feel like we need some kind of dessert but won't have any time to make my usuals. Not keen on shop bought cheesecakes etc unless anyone has any recommendations for ready made desserts that don't taste artificial?
All eat everything except alcohol (dc will be having pudding) and one doesn't like bananas.

Thanks

I think GU puddings are usually good if you are willing to go instant.

Otherwise - Eton Mess? Shop bought individual meringues, fruit, bit of sugar and whipped (or extra thick double) cream.

Ice cream/sorbet?

Yoghurt and honey in little glasses with Jordan’s crunchy or similar on the top. Or with compote.

Or fancy nice yoghurts in the flat round tubs (gooseberry taste the difference types)

Scoop of nice icecream

Shop bought fruit tart

This is what gu puddings and magnums/other types of choc ice on a stick were invented for!

DM used to make chocolate Angel Delight with a dash of rum and serve it in wine glasses with whipped cream and flake. Our family friends all thinks she is amazing at making mousse. She's not!

Applebark · 06/09/2022 20:30

Tinned peaches with cream. Add crushed meringues for the Eaton mess type thing.

BeyondMyWits · 06/09/2022 20:32

Quick dinner doesn't need dessert.

or if you need something sweet you could always just have a coffee with a biscuit after.

Jumpking · 06/09/2022 20:34

Mug cake. Dead simple

That first one is breakfast!

Choc mousse - 1 egg and 60g plain choc per person. Separate eggs, whisky whites until stiff. Melt chocolate, add to egg yolks, fold in white. Either in individual ramekins or 1 big bowl to serve.

bakehimawaytoys · 06/09/2022 20:44

Eton mess but with sliced oranges and passionfruit instead of strawberries.

GU puds are fab if you have guests

Chrestomanci3 · 06/09/2022 20:53

Easy to make but take 15 min in oven - crush up some amaretto biscuits, mix with a bit of cinnamon and brown sugar. Sprinkle over tinned peaches (in ovenproof dish) and cook for about 15 min. Delicious.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/09/2022 20:55

I like the coffee and biscuit idea.

Or a bought lemon tart with raspberries and pouring cream.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/09/2022 20:55

I'd be very bemused if you gave me a pot of yoghurt, or yoghurt with granola on.

Siezethefish · 06/09/2022 21:00

bananas, natural yoghurt, meringue and confiture du lait / dulche du leche/caramel sauce

chop bananas, put in bowl, add yog and crushed meringue, stir a bit, melt sauce til runny in microwave and pour over

or smash up some maltesers, sprinkle over ice cream and drizzle melted caramel sauce around base.

Siezethefish · 06/09/2022 21:01

missed the bit about bananas - peaches?

It’s one of our favourite puds! Not in a pot though - in a little water glass so you can see the layers. We all put in what we want - compote layer, Greek yoghurt layer, honey layer, crunchy stuff on top or chocolate drops, or pistachio creme layer (or sweetened chestnut) if we have it in.

Picard frozen deserts are the best! Especially their raspberry tart. Or chocolate fondant, depending on taste. Ocado stock them. And M&S now I think. Not sure about others. I always put one in the freezer when we've got people staying and I think I might need a pud at some point.

mast0650 · 06/09/2022 21:11

Otherwise I'd just go for really nice ice cream!

Dingalingo · 06/09/2022 21:15

If I have last minute guests I usually get some nice chocolate and some berries and some ice cream and everyone has a bit of whatever they want - most people aren’t fussed about desserts (I speak as someone who IS very much a dessert person!)

Sgtmajormummy · 06/09/2022 21:17

Tiramisu is very impressive for about ten minutes’ work, but you do need to make it in advance.
Coffee, eggs, sugar, cocoa powder and plain biscuits (ladies’ fingers not essential, I’ve used rich tea or Marietta) are all store cupboard ingredients.
250g mascarpone makes a generous 4-person tiramisu.

Parrotpretty · 06/09/2022 21:17

The lidl frozen specially selected lemon cheesecake is amazing

Sgtmajormummy · 06/09/2022 21:22

Or rum-infused broken biscuit chocolate salami. recipe

Sgtmajormummy · 06/09/2022 21:24

Sorry, for children you can leave the rum out.

Sgtmajormummy · 06/09/2022 21:28

I made www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/fastest-ever-lemon-pudding this the other day and served it immediately with marmalade syrup not lemon curd. We were all blown away because it really WAS sponge pudding.
