How’s your first day or two of them being back been ?

for me I’ve missed mine, also felt relieved I can crack on with other things more

worried if they are ok and having a good day
more the eldest then the youngest

but it can be such a whirlwind
just wondering how others are finding it

I suppose for most people it a bit of a mix

I've missed mine, they're 7&8 and great company. They've had a good time at school though.

BananaSpanner · 06/09/2022 16:28

Mine go back tomorrow. Ambivalent really, we’ve had a good summer, plenty of quality time. Their behaviour has been pretty good, nice holiday away. They’ve also had a couple of weeks at holiday club early on when we were at work.

It’s time for them to go back and get back into a routine/see their friends/restart hobbies that finished over summer etc But I won’t be dancing in the halls or anything, I’ve enjoyed their company.

Fucking loved it.
Peace and quiet. Had a nap. Had several hot hot drinks. Got a lovely big hug at pick up time.

Reluctantadult · 06/09/2022 16:31

A bit stressed about picking up all of my own stuff again, back to my normal routine at work after a bit of time off, back to the early dog walk, school run, pick up and then cleaning, back to meal planning and cooking. I took a few deep breaths earlier! Kids had a lovely day, yr3 in particular sounds great, I'd rather do that!

Catch21 · 06/09/2022 16:32

It's been a lovely summer, but easier now not having to juggle work.

PileofLogs · 06/09/2022 16:33

Life is easier (especially getting work done) but I really miss them and keep looking up their timetables so I can know what they are up to. They are 16 and 14 ffs.

Pretty much my thoughts.

9 year old went back today, was glad she had a good first day after bullying she experienced last term.
DD age 4 doesn't go back until next week and even then it's a staggered start for reception year so only going in from the Wednesday, it seems so far away and i can't take much more of it. Especially as i have a new job starting soon and could do with a bit of space to sort things out before I start.

Sothis · 06/09/2022 16:53

Delighted that I can focus on my work properly.

theworryworm · 06/09/2022 16:57

I'm ecstatic, won't lie Iv been waiting for school to come. I need a breather and so did they I think! It's hard work with them full time and special needs with no help. Does get very overwhelming

(SEN children)

DreamingofItaly2023 · 06/09/2022 17:02

Also ambivalent, loved having the time with DS but he was ready to go back and I am glad to have the time and space to get on with stuff.

Starfishswimmer · 06/09/2022 17:03

How long are the reception intros these days ? When my youngest started
it was six weeks of half days
is it still like that ?

I work out of the home so it makes no difference to me really.

Notcoping90 · 06/09/2022 17:09

A bit sad really. They've gone back to a school which I don't feel is right for them, and I've gone back to work that doesn't feel right for me either. I wish I was rich so that I could homeschool full time!

DeadDonkey · 06/09/2022 17:13

Mine go back tomorrow - I’d drop them tonight if I could…

Our bus driver did a welcome to the term message on our What’s App group earlier - I told him not to rush back tomorrow night - many parents agreed with me!

Worried about her having a good day. She did! Enjoy being in a routine again and glad she is getting to play with her friends every day again. She didn’t want to go back but she never does after a holiday.

Navigatingnewwaters · 06/09/2022 17:17

I have a job so no difference really

Poor thing, I’m glad her new term has started brighter.

IrishladyNE · 06/09/2022 17:29

Me too but I took a couple of weeks holiday

UrgentScurryfunge · 06/09/2022 17:55

Rather enjoying getting the house sorted out. It's not been an easy summer for various reasons and we've spent a lot of time stuck at home due to DS's health which is finally settling. Our holiday was interupted by bereavement so I still haven't sorted out all the camping gear as we got in, unloaded the car, packed and set off again then got back ploughing straight into school induction.

Now adjusting to new routines as DC1 has moved up to secondary. That was ahead of DC2 so much of the past week has been a weird term/ holiday mash-up.

I see plenty of the DCs in term time, so a full 6 weeks in their constant company is quite intense.

HerRoyalNotness · 06/09/2022 17:55

I’m very lonely and it’s really quiet. I have loads of things to get on with but have zero motivation. Favourite part of the day is walking up to meet the kindergartener off the bus.

ThreeRingCircus · 06/09/2022 18:01

DD1 started Year 1 yesterday. Half of me was emotional. Reception felt like an extension of nursery and so much of their time was playing. Year 1 feels more like "proper school" somehow and I don't know how my baby is suddenly old enough to be in Year 1. Where did the time go?! She's fabulous company so I'll miss her, and DD2 (age 3) misses her too as she'd got used to having her at home during the summer holidays.

However, it'll be nice for DD2 and I to have some quality time together. I feel we all need to get back into a routine and I'll be able to concentrate better at work. I also needed to stop spending money as we had a lovely Summer doing day trips/meals out etc but it'll definitely be cheaper now she's back at school.

Iguanainanigloo · 06/09/2022 18:14

I miss them... Even though I've been at work all day. They're so much fun, undemanding, and just generally lovely, and I miss having them around, and miss the lack of structure that we get during the holidays. But, they enjoy the routine of school and were extremely excited to go back this week.

AlwaysLatte · 06/09/2022 18:17

The house has been very quiet, they went back today.

We had plenty to do to keep us busy (bit of home rearrangement/visit to IKEA for home office stuff) but looking forward to the weekend for a planned zoo trip.
