Need a hand hold. Partner in A&E

My partner has been rushed into A&E with chest pains radiating round to his mid back.
He's young. Only 28, and we are due to be getting married in 5 days.

I'm devastated, terrified and everything else possible.

He's currently in for blood tests. He's yellow in complexion and vomiting every 30 minutes or so.

We both had gastric surgery back in February of this year and I've already had gallstone issues, but didn't have it this severe. Part of me wonders if it is gallstones for him too, but I'm not certain.

He's had an ECG which came back normal. It's awful seeing him like this.

I'm trying to be strong but just in floods of tears.

Hi.
If the tears help release the tension then let them.flow. He is in ths best place . Thinking of you both.

It does sound like gallstones, maybe one blocking the bile duct. Hence the jaundice & vomiting. Hopefully they find the cause & settle his pain soon. Can you go for a cup of tea or some fresh air to calm down a bit.

Oh so sorry OP, does sound like gallstones! I had my gallbladder out 18 months ago. Hopefully they can diagnose asap and it won't disrupt your wedding plans 🤞

He's been moved to a bed luckily so he's resting for now. Still in a lot of pain. Gutted that they can only provide paracetamol for the time being whilst waiting for a doctor to come and see him. I've never seen him in so much pain!

Why did you both have surgery - quite unusual.

Hope he is better or at least diagnosed soon.

Not that it’s any of your business, but if it’s been bariatric surgery, it’s quite common for couples to get it at the same time

OnTheBrinkOfChange · 05/09/2022 20:20

You must be so worried. He's in the right place and I hope he gets good treatment soon.

presentandsometimescorrect · 05/09/2022 20:21

His symptoms sound like mine did last year, I had jaundice and pains around my chest- felt like someone was pulling a belt really tight around me. I had a gallstone blocking my bile duct and my gallbladder was overflowing with stones. I had an ERCP procedure to remove it and around 5 weeks later I had my gallbladder out. I hope he's ok.

lunar1 · 05/09/2022 20:22

I hope you get some news soon. He will feel much more comfortable now he has a bed.

They can give him much stronger analgesia . They do no need to wait for a Dr to see him first. Analgesia will not mask the problem!

applecinnamonpie · 05/09/2022 20:23

Yes we both had gastric surgery in February as we were both dangerously overweight.

It's possible that they're worried about liver issues, which might limit what they can give him.

bloodywhitecat · 05/09/2022 20:29

Hand hold from afar, I hope the doctor sees him soon.

Mehjustmeh · 05/09/2022 20:30

I agree sound like gallstones. I had mine out two weeks ago following a 2nd bout of pancreatitis due to a stone blocking my duct. Horrendous pain but he's absolutely in the right place. Hope he's ok and gets treated soon.

justasking111 · 05/09/2022 20:37

Does sound like gallbladder

Russell19 · 05/09/2022 20:44

Sounds like when a family member had pancreatitis.

Whataretheodds · 05/09/2022 20:48

As OP said, if it helps to cry then cry.
Write things down if it helps. Questions and answers
Remember to keep yourself hydrated and eat something nourishing.
He is in the best place to get help. It's fibe to ask questions of the staff - eg about pain medication.

Ugo · 05/09/2022 20:54

I have known nurses gave PR diclofenac whilst waiting for Dr’s to review.

ThreeLocusts · 05/09/2022 21:17

So sorry OP Crossing my fingers for you.

SayCheeseBoris · 05/09/2022 21:25

Oh this does sound like Gallstones to me too, horrendous little buggers and the pain is off the chart sometimes! I've developed them from having the gastric sleeve too, the only downside of it for me. Hope he gets some proper pain relief soon but for future attacks 2 buscopan and 2 cocodamol help me to be able to ride it out at home.

Fruitygal · 05/09/2022 21:29

Pancreatitis or Cholecystitis? Morphine can be given after Dr sees him. Probably do blood tests and also either ultrasound or imaging (CT/MRI)to understand exact issue. May settle in 5-8 hrs or need an op. Drastic rapid weight loss that you get with bariatric can cause gallstones - small ones often worse than large ones as they are easier to get stuck.

applecinnamonpie · 05/09/2022 23:18

He's been diagnosed with pancreatitis. Absolutely awful pain 😢

I've been sent home now but he is being kept in for at least tonight.

Are you the person who posted the other week, but he wouldn’t go to A and E?
