Just wondering if anyone can beat the price I paid?

We paid £5 a few weeks ago to hook a duck!

HippyLife · 05/09/2022 06:55

My mum took my little lad to the fair on Saturday and she paid an eye watering £4 🫣 I remember when I was a kid it was £1 a go and you got a goldfish 🫣

Pleasecouldihavesomeadvice · 05/09/2022 06:56

10p yesterday! Fantastic price. The price was just a Haribo sweet though. Local village fete, for reference

DesignerRecliner · 05/09/2022 06:56

Fairs locally have been trying to charge between £4-6 with a 'guaranteed' Poundland tat prize every time. We explain to the kids that we could by 4/6x what they can 'win' for the same pennies.

I don't mind a couple of £ but it's getting daft!

transformandriseup · 05/09/2022 06:58

In Cornwall a local fair was charging £6 a go with a prize guaranteed. I politely declined.

Woodsparrow · 05/09/2022 06:59

£3 a go this weekend but my kids did each get a prize I considered worth £3. Some of the prizes were proper tat though

KatherineofGaunt · 05/09/2022 07:03

Recent visiting fair charged 4 tokens, each token being £1.20!

onmywayamarillo · 05/09/2022 07:03

£4.50!! At a local fair
Everything else was £5 a go

LondonQueen · 05/09/2022 07:08

£2 at a school fayre, expect it would be a lot more elsewhere.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 05/09/2022 09:29

It was £3/£3.50 last year

half decent though obviously cheap prize but part of the fun of hook a duck was sometimes it was hard due to the water (no water at this one) and there were different prizes depending on what was under the duck so there was a wee bit of excitement….not at this fair

IncompleteSenten · 05/09/2022 09:30

50p I think.

Thoughtful2355 · 05/09/2022 09:31

£2 wouldnt expect it to cost more than £3

Skinnermarink · 05/09/2022 09:32

£5, last week in Brockley Park, and we ‘won’ a really horrid cuddly blue dolphin 🤣

balalake · 05/09/2022 09:45

I am not sure whether it was in £sd or 'new' money.

MrsEricBana · 05/09/2022 09:48

If it was more £2 or £3 I'd say you've been ducked over.

MintyChipton · 05/09/2022 09:59

Hook a fuck seems to have changed from when I was a child. I clearly remember not winning a prize.
Now it seems to be a prize every time, with some being better. DS3 did one at a winter wonderland thing. It was £6 the basic prize was a small one of those inside out octopus things. Top prize was a giant one.

GinFug · 05/09/2022 10:03

Hook a what @MintyChipton? 😂

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 05/09/2022 10:05

Isnt ‘hook a fuck’ tinder? 🤔

SpinningFloppa · 05/09/2022 10:14

£3 at our fair in London which I think is reasonable

sophs29 · 05/09/2022 10:14

£5! Couldn't believe it! So £10 all together for each of my DC to have a turn!

Pupsandpaws · 05/09/2022 10:17

£4 at the Mayfair this year. Way too much imo

NannyGythaOgg · 05/09/2022 10:21

6d (2.5p) in 1he 1960s

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 05/09/2022 10:21

£5 for one duck!! On the end of Brighton pier. School Fayre was 50p for 3 ducks.

Bemyclementine · 05/09/2022 10:23

I stopped letting my dc play when it went up to £4. I'd rather give them the money to buy something.

SimonaRazowska · 05/09/2022 10:23

That’s just crazy prices
