How much did you pay last time you did a hook a duck?

Just wondering if anyone can beat the price I paid?

Yeah £4 was the offering at recent fetes and fairs. The price is one thing, but it's the lack of any actual fun, skill or risk that is even worse. It is literally 4 quid to pick a duck (any duck) out of still water 2 feet away from you and pick any prize. So it take seconds and is boring. Would be much more inclined to pay £4 if it was an actual game/challenge ie the ducks were in moving water and further away and also if there was some kind of chance element like better prizes for different numbers or colour stickers on bottom of the duck. I'm sure it used to be more like that!

Helpel · 05/09/2022 10:28

And no I don't pay for mine to have a go anymore now they're old enough to understand

MintyChipton · 05/09/2022 10:43

😅 just noticed my typo. How come when I want to type fuck it corrects to duck 🤔
(Which incidentally just corrected to dick!!)

TenoringBehind · 05/09/2022 10:44

50p but it was probably in the 1980s

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 05/09/2022 10:45

€5 but they ‘won’ toys for hooking the ducks, not bad ones either.

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 05/09/2022 10:48

I’m just reading all the replies now, I’ve never came across winning a toy for hooking the duck before we did the €5 one!

Before we’ve always done it at church fêtes where you just catch some ducks for 20p or something then move on to the next stall Shock

skgnome · 05/09/2022 12:18

Last time my DD did it it was £5 for a “small price” and £8 for a “medium” - she paid the £3 difference with her pocket money so she could have the medium price
i think I’ve paid for the £2 ones, but in order for her to end up with something semi decent it’s always been about £10 (accumulate the numbers under the ducks to get a bigger prize)

Notcoping90 · 05/09/2022 12:19

£4 per child and all they got was some poundland shit that broke before we got home.

Same

We had a Scouting gathering this weekend and one of our boys said “it’s like a gala/fête but everything is free!!”

To be fair we had a tombola at our local gala in the Summer and charged 50p were ticket or 3 for £1 and found out another stall was charging £2 a go and still managed to sell out..

Favouritefruits · 05/09/2022 12:27

£4 I’m a mean mum and refused to pay it 😬

babynoname22 · 05/09/2022 12:27

£3.50

LokiDokiArtichoki · 05/09/2022 12:30

£4 each at Barry Island for some pound shop tat that was broken within the day

SommerTen · 05/09/2022 12:33

50p - I was with a friend's little girl at a fete and this lady persuaded me to join in...

southlondoner02 · 05/09/2022 12:38

£4 for a really shit looking one - tiny paddling pool with about an inch of water and a handful of ducks. Needless to say I refused. School fete one always used to be 20p

popandchoc · 05/09/2022 12:45

£3.50, was a guranteed prize at least!

SquigglePigs · 05/09/2022 13:09

It's been £4-5 at the last few local fairs we've been to.

MiseryWIthAStent · 05/09/2022 13:38

Paid £4 for hook a duck 2 weeks ago. It was the saddest, shittest little hook a duck I've ever seen. There wasn't even any water.

LeftNotRight · 06/09/2022 06:52

I guess the prices have mostly gone up then.

I paid £6 each.

I asked for 3x goes and was charged £18. I expected it to be less than £10.

It was a prize every time one and we walked away with a small cuddly banana, a plastic princess tiara and hair clips and an oversized rubix cube.

This made me laugh @MintyChipton 😂

Yogibearspicnic · 06/09/2022 07:46

I think £3/4 seems to be about the level around me. What annoys me is the ones where you just pick a duck and get to choose whatever prize you want, rather than the 'proper' system where the colour under the duck denotes level of prize won. You're basically just handing over £4 for some tat, with the duck being some weird bit of the transaction. I want a bit of luck and excitement in my duck hooking!
