Can I ask a Q about Covid?

DH has Covid. Came up straight away on an antigen test on Sat. His symptoms have developed since. I have got exact same symptoms since yesterday evening, but still testing negative.

Did anyone else "have" it but never get the positive? Or is it probably going to show up over the next couple of days?

I assume I have it, it is unlikely I picked up something else, isn't it?

We haven't (knowingly) had it up to now. My mates have all said it showed up quickly on antigen test, like DH's did. I'd rather a positive to know, than be wondering

Thanks

aren't anti gen tests the ones that show if you've got antibodies?

IWouldLikeToKnow · 05/09/2022 06:43

When we had it, I had the same symptoms as my husband - in fact mine started earlier. Son had tested positive a couple of days earlier. My husband tested positive a day and a half before me

No they aren't
Antigen tests are LFTs
It sometimes takes a few days for the test to pick it up especially if using LFTs

Antigen tests are the same as LFTs. In Ireland we have always called them antigen tests

loudlylikealion · 05/09/2022 06:46

Took 5 days for mine to show up. I had a sore throat leading up to that. I think my immune system was trying to fight it off and then wham it took over. I had a dodgy stomach the day before the positive test.

AnnieJ1985 · 05/09/2022 06:46

Apologies, LFT

I am in Ireland, so we call them antigen tests

When DS had Covid, his dad became unwell within 48 hours. He only tested positive on day 5 or 6 from memory and then 48 hours after that was negative.

Lindy2 · 05/09/2022 07:12

It can take upto a few days to show - even when you have full on symptoms.

The tests are useful but not perfect.

I think you have to assume you've got it too. I hope you both feel better soon.

KangarooKenny · 05/09/2022 07:12

Keep testing. When we’ve got it it’s been 3-4 days after the first person tested positive.

x2boys · 05/09/2022 07:13

My son has had it twice ,second time last Xmas, I had symptoms but didn't test positive
I had it in June I tested positive and my son had symptoms but tested negative so who knows 🤷‍♀️

LongtimeOW · 05/09/2022 07:26

When my son had covid he tested negative every day, it was only the pcr test that confirmed it.

Thanks all

I assume I have it, it is unlikely I got a different random cold at the same time. We are both close contacts of the same person.

Would you call this the start of the self isolation or wait for positive? It is 7 days here now.

Doesn't make a huge difference, can wfh in any case, just wondering what others do. Have some stuff on late next week that I'd rather not have to cancel.

Never mind! Got an instant positive just now, so 7 days have started.

Well I guess I’ll ever know for sure but I believe I had covid twice, the second time i quickly got a positive lft but the first time I never did despite testing daily. I believe I had covid because everyone else in the house did and I had the same symptoms just milder.

I think a positive is positive, but you can’t rely on negatives meaning negative.

Oh cross posted! Imo it’s better to know for sure. Sorry to hear and get well soon

Get well soon Brew

I know someone ( X ) whose family & friends have repeatedly exposed to C19. X had to test 2x/week for work, and after each exposure... he never gets symptoms or tests positive. He's amused.

Beezknees · 05/09/2022 08:55

I've had it twice. First time was when you could still go for PCR tests. I never tested positive on the lateral flow tests and I did a few. I did test positive on the PCR.

Thank you. I don't feel too bad. I have had worse colds. Hopefully this is as bad as it gets.

It is interesting how people have different experiences with LFTs... one size doesn't fit all!

Why are you testing? If you live in the UK it is not required, so just carry on as normal.

If you read the thread, or even just OP's posts, OP is in Ireland. Also, many people are still testing because they have elderly/vulnerable people in their lives. It's called giving a shit.

A) to find out if I have it
B) I have a compromised immune system, I need to be careful still
C) I don't live in UK

Why are you replying if you can't be bothered to even read my posts, or is that how you carry on as normal?

Lots of people are still testing if unwell to avoid passing COVID to vulnerable relatives. I am if sniffly and visiting someone very vulnerable.

I would also like to know if it is COVID as I will monitor oxygen levels for COVID but not other things due to the differences in COVID. I'm not testing regularly, but would if I had a temperature.

SilentHedges · 05/09/2022 10:55

OP I had a sore throat and started to feel run down Friday, took a LFT Saturday and it immediately showed positive. A first for me since covid started. Then followed headaches, aches, tiredness etc.

For anyone wondering why I bothered to do a test and isolate like the PP, it's because I give a shit about vulnerable people and I also work in an office with air con where I'm likely to infect even more people.
