I'm booked for c section tomorrow

Eek. I'm booked in to c section tomorrow for my second baby.

I would be lying if unsaid I was excited. I am so bloody nervous. Praying all goes ok. Worried about leaving my toddler.

Section due to very difficult labour and 4th degree tear last time.

It just feels very surreal.

You will be fine. Worst bit is the nerves before you go in. But it's altogether a calm experience and in many ways less stressful than vb. It's just that you know the night before that it will happen that adds to the nerves I think!

usethedata · 04/09/2022 23:20

PS I've had 3. 1 emergency, 2 planned. The planned ones were much easier to recover from than the emergency, in case you ended up with an emcs last time

beststepforward · 04/09/2022 23:22

I've had two emergency sections (as labour started before my booked c section) and both were good experiences. You can ask to play music if your choice in theatre. The staff were all lovely and really good at putting me at ease. They talked through what was going to happen at each stage which helped too. I didn't feel scared or nervous at all throughout it.

Try and get some sleep tonight and just think that you'll be holding your baby this time tomorrow ! All the best

No EMCS last time. Surgery post birth to deal with the aftermath

Good luck. Hope all goes well. My elective was plain sailing.

Just stay on top of your pain relief afterwards. Every four hours like clockwork.

Careylisa · 04/09/2022 23:28

I had a traumatic birth the first time, so went for a c section in March for my second. It's quite surreal when you go in to the op theatre, I was quite nervous about having the spinal, but everyone was so reassuring and it went so quickly really.
It's fine to feel nervous, it will be fine. 💕

FirstTimeMum072022 · 05/09/2022 12:34

Honestly I loved my section - organised prepared and it felt so much better for me personally, had it on Saturday by the Tuesday I was fine. I might be unique in this but I loved feeling the operation too! The pulling and tugging.

MassiveSalad22 · 05/09/2022 12:36

Exciting! I’ve had 2 ELCS after a 3c tear. It’s surreal because this new human is suddenly there after basically no effort from you. The anaesthetic always makes me go faint but the anaesthetist is right there to make it better and talks to you all through and takes photos for you etc. Enjoy!

numberthirtytwowindsorgardens · 05/09/2022 12:53

Good luck and congratulations! My ELCS was so much nicer than my emergency one. Even so, I cried with nerves, so I know how you feel.

Get in some Windeze (other brands are available!) for the trapped wind - that's much more painful than the surgery, and is relieved almost immediately by the meds!

Good luck 😊

I hope you’re already having baby snuggles, but if not i guess it won’t be much longer!

Its a smoother recovery than from a difficult vaginal birth (I had elcs for dc2 after a failed vacuum, then forceps birth for dc1 which caused a 3b tear). Keep on top of painkillers - assuming you can take them you can schedule paracetamol and ibuprofen so you’re taking something almost every 3/4 hours round the clock. My midwife said they work better if you keep taking them on schedule instead of letting it completely wear off then taking again when you’re uncomfortable. I took them religiously for about 10 days, then started tapering off the ibuprofen first, by about two and a half weeks I think I was just needing some if I’d overdone it the day before.

bloodyunicorns · 05/09/2022 13:08

I've had one. If you start to feel faint or ill, tell the anaesthetist. They can help.

ShirleyPhallus · 05/09/2022 13:14

Ah good luck OP, I hope baby is here already

babynoname22 · 05/09/2022 13:21

Waiting to go down!!!

Feeling very very weird

I had 3 c sections. I was nervous every single time. Its completely normal.
Any concerns you have during the op ie feeling sick/ unwell etc someone will be at your head, just tell them, they are so helpful.
Good luck to you 🙂

ellenpartridge · 05/09/2022 13:34

Absolutely loved my elcs with my son. Good luck!

babyjellyfish · 05/09/2022 13:34

Good luck!

You're going to want some peppermint tea to ease the trapped wind and glycerine suppositories for the first few post section poos.

ellenpartridge · 05/09/2022 13:34

Oh and yes to the meds for nausea. They really help so definitely ask!

Itsnevertheend · 05/09/2022 13:35

Not had a c section, had DD which was beyond stressful and a complete balls up by NHS, had to have emergancy forceps after 12 hours of pushing and two epidurals. They had to cut me prob 2-3 cms to get the forceps in. Most traumatic and stressful moment of my life and gave me ptsd. Now preg 5 years later with my second and really really considering a c section cause the thought of trying birth natural stresses me out beyond comprehension. Please update on your bundle of joy !!! Good luck and enjoy !

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 05/09/2022 14:39

I've had two planned ones both amazing but yes very nerve wracking when waiting! Once you are in and the spinal is done it is no time at all before baby is out. Good luck x

KissMyElbow · 05/09/2022 14:59

Only writing this as you’ll now be post op 😂

I was told how calm and lovely it will be and it is I guess but my EMCS after two days of awful labour meant I was extremely not with it. With an elective you are SO with it and aware of everything and I hated the lack of control over my body which was in a different way to labour. So much so I briefly wondered if I should have gone VBAC 😂.

However when I was on the ward, a lady had been induced opposite me and she was in a lot of pain and I knew I’d made the right decision. Fairly good recovery with both c sections and I drove pretty early on too. Second scar had some infection but it’s cleared up now but was a bit gross down there so frequent washing and air drying!

I have suffered both times terribly with the post c section wind pain, right in the middle of my chest. Deflatine seems better for me than Windeze but also peppermint tea and avoid carbonated drinks.

babynoname22 · 05/09/2022 15:04

Not post op yet. Still haven't gone down

why do you get pain from wind and gas after c section ?

JimmiChoux · 05/09/2022 15:55

Good luck, wishing you well.

I think it's because your internal organs get moved around a bit during the C-section which causes wind to become trapped.
