warm bedding

Was wondering if buying warmer duvet covers is a good idea re keeping warm.

I have a super king so throws are never big enough.

There are electric blankets, so might look at those.

But was wondering about fleece, teddy or faux fur duvet covers and sheets.

I am someone who likes 100% cotton so not sure about these as they seem to all be polyester. Are they sweaty warm if that makes sense ?

What are they like , anyone have these in winter and recommendations for good reasonably priced bedding.

Thanks.

Similar - I can’t bear wearing polyester in bed so can’t imagine I’d get on with fleece sheets. I love my French linen ones and find they do a good job of temperature control (warm in winter, cool in summer). I did briefly consider getting some brushed cotton but doubt they’d be significantly better.

I did get an electric blanket last winter (under blanket) and I love it. You don’t need one big enough to heat the whole bed, just the bit of it you’re lying on.

I love the Teddy bedding, duvet cover, pillow cases and bottom sheet. Bed is not cold to climb into - no need for electric blanket. Have never found it sweaty warm 😁

I bought a set of brushed cotton from the White House a year or so back. It was the colour/lack of pattern that I was after which was why I bought them, but they are gorgeous and so snuggly. My DH loved them. They ended up being washed and put back on all winter and the plain cotton standard type didn't get a look in.

The best thing I have is a big wool blanket that my grandma knitted, things with little holes keep you warmer than flat whole blankets

PinkBuffalo · 04/09/2022 12:00

I use fleece bedding in winter cover, sheet and pillow case
i have never got sweaty in it, and it is a game changer not being cold in bed (I have a very cold house) bed is not cold getting in it which makes a big difference

I think there could be bickering over which of us gets the warm spot !

Is french linen warm then ? I have been thinking of it for summer as know its cool.

Any you recommend as reasonably priced and good quality ? I suspect its variable , like any bedding , in quality.

Thanks

Is brushed cotton like old school flannelette bedding, or totally different ?

Is it warm then ?

Brushed cotton is amazing, so warm to get into. Can't wait to get mine on this winter.

BrownTableMat · 04/09/2022 12:08

I think I’d describe French linen as temperature regulating rather than warm as such. It’s also incredibly comfortable and easy to look after. And the H and M cheapies sets are at least as good as the more expensive, in my experience.

Dox9 · 04/09/2022 12:09

Brushed cotton is lovely but for warmth I find layers best. We use a big heavy bedspread over lighter duvet in winter. The added advantage with that setup is that the heavy top layer won't need washing very often. It's a pain to have bedding that takes ages to dry especially winter looking at my beautiful 800tc egyptian cotton sheets .

Been on e bay and seen Brentfords fleece bedding that seems reasonably priced. Does though make me think of Brentford Nylons !!

Also seen Sienna make, which seems to be recommended on MN for blanket hoodies .

I'll see what I can find in online shops .

Brushed corton is cosy. You can get fleecy mattress covers which keep you much warmer at night.

Also you could go for a duvet each to avoid draughty edges!

Dox9 · 04/09/2022 12:14

Brushed cotton bedspread we have something like this.

MoriaRoseForever · 04/09/2022 12:15

I will also see if I can find throws large enough to properly cover a super king bed. I have found some that would just about, but be good to have a little over .

I bought the teddy duvet cover from M&S last year. I put it on the bed (KS) and it was over a foot too long! I could of took it back but I just ended up cutting off the excess. (I made myself a nice scarf ☺️).

The first few days the fluff came off and stuck to the carpet. Be careful if tumble drying too, just a warm tumble. I singed part of the cover because it was too hot.

Other than that, it's light, warm and feels lovely to sleep in.
HTH.

OH has brushed cotton/flanelette, from Dunelm on his bed which he loves. I couldn't get a king size duvet so bought some flat sheets and made one

Now while it is lovely it is so blummin heavy and takes ages to dry

Ive recently bought DS brushed cotton from Dunelm and it is only brushed one side and much lighter

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 04/09/2022 12:32

i have always had good quality cotton sheets. I missed the brushed cotton sheets of my childhood, so I bought some the year before last. They're only cheap ones as I saw some I liked the print of & also needed to up the 'basket' total for my Tesco delivery (never need to now!) so I thought I'd give them a go. They were on my bed pretty much all winter! The alternate sets got very short shift in between!!

then last year everyone was going on about 'teddy' bedding, I thought it sounded a bit hit, sweaty, grim, but again Tesco had some on special, in a colour I liked, so I ordered a set, I figured I could just donate them after the first use if I didn't like them! I loved them!!

im looking forward to using both sets again this winter. When it wasn't very cold, I used a normal duvet cover & the teddy duvet cover as a throw on the bed, so it was easy to throw off in the night, I'll start that way this autumn too.

I don't usually buy cheap bedding, but both Tesco sets have worked out brilliantly.

the teddy fitted sheet did get a bit 'flat' last year, so I'll have to see how it is this year. If it's not good I'll take it to the charity shop that does a lot of bedding and anything they're not 109% withbthe pass onto their animal charity for pet bedding. So it's 'all good'

Parrotpretty · 04/09/2022 12:34

I love the qvc fleece bedding sets. They dry so quickly also just hung over the stair bannister.

DinosApple · 04/09/2022 12:43

We all have fleecy bedding which is brilliant. I use Dunelm, Homebase and Tesco (and stocked up in the spring sales).

Brushed cotton is good, but not as warm as teddy bear fleece imo for a duvet cover.

Generally, unless it is extremely cold I prefer a cotton/brushed cotton pillow case.

Tesco doesn't seem to do fleecy teddy (or much ) superking bedding. Thats a shame as sounded good.
