What do you do? I want to leave the NHS. I have good gcses, pretty good a levels and a undergraduate degree. I'm 30. I want to make good money. I'm looking at going to see a career advisor but just out of interest.

OP posts:

I'm a freelance marketing director. Lots of money in my sector

DelurkingAJ · 03/09/2022 13:34

Finance (qualified accountant) with a financial services specialism.

Shinyandnew1 · 03/09/2022 13:35

Hmmm, what Do you define as ‘good’ money? Do you also want to know if the people replying enjoy their job or recommend it…?!

What do you do in the nhs?? Would you consider doing fillers/Botox

poster82 · 03/09/2022 13:42

Define good money

SalesMum · 03/09/2022 13:43

What’s good money?

I earn around £50k managing a team of sales people

abovedecknotbelow · 03/09/2022 14:07

Define 'good money', what you do in the nhs and what your degree is in otherwise it's a pretty pointless question.

I'm not sure if you meant to sound rude but you are coming across pretty rude in the way that this reads and there are definitely kinder ways you could have commented. I'd define good money as 50k and above and I'm not saying what my degree is or what I do as I'd be able to be identified. I've said I work in the NHS and for more information I earn 30k.

I earn, by your definition, good money working for a website that encourages men to cheat. Think Ashley Madison. I work from home and mainly do 8 until 5, 5 days although I choose my own hours. I am fairly sure it isn't what a career advisor would advise, but just wanted to say there are options

Applebark · 03/09/2022 15:59

Data Analyst

abovedecknotbelow · 03/09/2022 16:01

@Sunflowers2047 no not rude but how can anyone help you without knowing your transferable skills?

FWIW I earn c90-100, work in construction.

i dont think the poster came across as rude, they are valid questions

DrawingdowntheMoon · 03/09/2022 16:16

OP, if you work in the NHS then you will have skills. So maybe you could apply these to the Private Sector?
It really depends if your skills are managerial or clinical as to which path you could take.

girlmom21 · 03/09/2022 16:16

Nobody can help you earn an extra £20k without knowing what skills you have.

Batshittery · 03/09/2022 16:21

I don't think the PP was rude. The questions were valid.
Are you the only person working in the NHS, doing your job with a degree? I would have thought it would be hard to identify people on that info alone

Alright wind your neck in. If you don't understand the thread based upon the OP nobody is forcing you to continue no need to be uppity.

You do need to say broadly if you are a medic or a research scientist, or a nurse or physio type role, or a manager, or it is hard to help. There are literally thousands of people doing those jobs so it isn’t identifying. But broadly -

Medical start ups are in abundance around Cambridge way, and many docs I know have gone over to them

Drug companies? Some nurses I know do a lot better by switching to be sales reps. Research scientists do a lot better too.

Private medicine. Cosmetic medicine as a PP said.

An NHS manager friend has done well switching into other public sector, but she would have been more senior to you when she left.

As a broad statement data analysis is a boom area, if you have any maths background.

It was a bit rude in your tone so just think about how you're speaking to people. Thanks. I'm not prepared to disclose what my role is as it's outing and thats my choice and perfectly reasonable.

OP posts:
HollyBollyBooBoo · 03/09/2022 16:47

Project Manager in construction earning above that but have over 20 years experience and you'd need to start at a lower level and work your way up.

StrawberryAnnie · 03/09/2022 16:47

If you don’t want to share information to enable people on a forum to give more relevant advice - then just go directly to a careers advisor.

Be prepared for them to ask the same sort of questions …

Shinyandnew1 · 03/09/2022 16:56

I think the same could be said to you. You are giving no useful information which would enable anyone to help. I can’t imagine for a second that you are the only person working for the NHS with that particular undergraduate degree, but without knowing your qualifications, current role and skills, I doubt anyone on here is going to help you much.

oneOff12 · 03/09/2022 16:59

Tech, lots of jobs in the med tech sector to use your previous knowledge

lljkk · 03/09/2022 17:02

Webcam work?

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 03/09/2022 17:04

What do people mean when they say your job is outing? Like unless you're the leading cardiothorasic surgeon who has won two Nobel prizes... How would anyone know you?

abovedecknotbelow · 03/09/2022 17:04

Here's your 🍟 back op.
