Would you/could you cook after 8pm

Sorry, saw it on the DM website! (I admit I go there but see it as a trashy mag!) Apparently one of the measures for avoiding blackouts over winter is asking people to either cook their evening meal after 8pm or to eat cold food. For me personally this wouldn’t work. I eat early, around 6. I’m usually in bed by 9. So there’s no way I’m going to be cooking my evening meal at 8. I’m quite happy to take any other measures, they mention also not using dishwashers/washing machines between 2pm and 8pm. But I don’t see how I could shift my dinner time to fit in with this. Just wondering what other people think?

@XenoBitch No way. I have my tea no later than 5:30pm. are you six?

We eat as a family every night. Usually 5.30ish. It's not weird to eat as a family

We are at war economically with Russia. Yet people are not prepared to make the slightest sacrifice for society to keep the electricity supply running. I dispair at the selfishness of many here and saddened that the Ww2 generation were able to sacrifice so much more and this lot can't even delay dinner.

You know not everyone works the same hours?

My husband works 6-2, I own my own business. We eat around 5ish-6 as a family.

My family did the same growing up. Both parents worked full time but sat down yo a family meal 5-6pm

Wasting your time with this poster. They don't seem to realise not everyone works same hours as them🙄

We generally eat around 8.30pm - 9.00pm, depending on husband's evening calls. So not really a problem for us. That's as a family, with our 16 year old daughter. If it needed long prep/cook time, I can do it the night before.

As to not being prepared to make the slightest sacrifice for society - nope. I'm done. After the clusterfuck that was covid, when it was made very clear that any sacrifices demanded were only mandatory for the pleb's, I don't feel this Government has any moral legitimacy requiring or requesting that the person in the street makes sacrifices. That's the consequences for their attitudes and actions.

Zahawi not heating his horses' stables, Sunak not filling his new swimming pool, would add up to being far more useful in terms of saving water and power than me not doing my washing.

I think we sort of put ourselves off eating out earlier than 7pm after a disastrous meal out when our DC were pre-school age and some people nearby asked to be moved! It was so mortifying we didn't go out to eat again for about 3 years! 🤣

Definitely not, I'm up at 5.30 for work, so I got to bed at 9.30-10. Eating that late it would lay heavy before bed and I'd also be woken up needing the loo from having a drink with my meal so late too. I would consider it if I started work later/went to bed later though

MrsTxx · 03/09/2022 21:59

Hmmm I had to cook at half 8 tonight as I regularly do evening shifts. I prefer my last meal around 5 but no can do when I'm at work

TooHotToRamble · 04/09/2022 00:21

We often cook and eat that late. My DH often gets home after 9.
