Hi

can anyone recommend a nice beach on Norfolk that would be good for toddlers? needs to be fairly accessible and have toilets nearby. Thanks

Southwold (toilets by the pier end)

Afterfire · 02/09/2022 10:11

Meant to add - Southwold is obviously Suffolk but everyone in Norfolk loves it! We go all the time.

Sheringham is nice, as is Cromer

Old Hunstanton Beach.

Mundesley beach is very child friendly.

Brancaster, but check tide times before you go. On certain days the road to the car park floods at high tide. These days are flagged in advance. At low tide you have to walk miiiiiiiiilles to actually swim in the sea, but the advantage if you are with toddlers is that the low tide creates several shallow "lagoons" between the sandbars which are near the beach and perfect for little ones. Just watch for the tide coming in round the side. There's a small kiosk selling beach toys, ice creams, coffee etc and there is a toilet block.

Holkham

Dont you know? All British beaches are now one gigantic toilet.

Wells beach is nice but I wouldnt be going in to the sea at all.

We once got trapped there and had to wait for the tide to go back out before we could leave.

It is a stunning beach though.

Holkham

Bluevelvetcake2 · 02/09/2022 11:00

I’ve seen a few recs for Holkham here but isn’t it a long walk and no toilets nearby?

West runton. Proper sand one side, rock pool the other side, public toilets, little cafe £4 all day parking. It is a single track road though. If you do the cliffe top walk there is also a lovely park by a campsite. It’s the mammoth fossil beach.

MotherWol · 02/09/2022 12:12

Another vote for Mundesley, parking is easy, the beach is really nice, and there are toilets, fish & chips and ice cream all close by.

byvirtue · 02/09/2022 12:21

Not holkham the walk is insane. Brancaster for toddlers all the way. Car park and toilets right next to the beach.

ApplePippa · 02/09/2022 12:22

Sheringham might be a good bet. Toilets close to the beach, and not too much of a trek from beach to car park. It's shingle rather than sand though.

JamesWilbyFanClub · 02/09/2022 12:25

Yes a beautiful beach but not what OP was asking for.

DCINightingale · 02/09/2022 12:28

Brancaster is lovely but watch for tide times over the access road. Sheringham or cromer are both good, toilets and food places near by. I prefer cromer, loads of parking and once you're down the hill to the beach there's pretty much everything you need for a visit.

AlexandraPeppernose · 02/09/2022 12:29

Wells or Gorleston.

Anywhere but Yarmouth or Caister

Haven't been to Holkham for years (used to go regularly) but the toilets used to be up on the main road in the Holkham estate art gallery/ cafe/ shop not far from the car park and it's a ruddy long walk to get anywhere near the sea. Last time I was there (early noughties) with children we were startled to come across a group of around 20 naked gay men up to all sorts on the beach and in the pines and it put me off the place.

I think for children somewhere like Wells would be better. Cafe and loos at the beach car park if I remember correctly.

Freckl · 02/09/2022 12:33

Old Hunstanton is beautiful with sand duney bits, rock pools and cliffs.

Hunstanton itself is also a lovely beach, though much more "seaside tacky" (which I actually think is perfect with kids).

Would not recommend Holkham personally as it's miles from the car park, no loo and lots of wet, muddy type sand. Very very beautiful but definitely more for a walk with teens imo.

steelseries · 02/09/2022 12:34

There are toilets at Holkham now - at the cafe which is at the beach-end of the car park. Still a long way from the sea though.

Longdistance · 02/09/2022 12:36

If you want shallow waters, Sea Palling and Waxham. Though toilets aren’t close by, in the summer the water is warm.
Sheringham is a good shout for nearby toilets, but very busy.

mogtheexcellent · 02/09/2022 12:38

cromer. Got a pirate ship playground on west beach. Can rent beach hut to stash stuff. cafes and loos on pier and beside pirate ship. Plus in the summer lots of kids activites on beach for free (google cromer kids weeks)

Longdistance · 02/09/2022 12:39

Also Mundesley has a nice park nearby. The overspill car park is in the park.

Daisydukes79 · 02/09/2022 12:42

Happisburgh - accessible with a pram (small slope to the beach) toilets, playground and ice cream van and ample parking at the top
