Hi

can anyone recommend a nice beach on Norfolk that would be good for toddlers? needs to be fairly accessible and have toilets nearby. Thanks

Wells – and it’s got a little train to take you down to that beach café!

ThreeKneeRepeater · 02/09/2022 12:47

Hemsby? Car park and toilets near the beach.

NellieJean · 02/09/2022 12:50

Wells is nice because you can walk into town as well as use the beach.
For somewhere quieter try Holme nature reserve which is between Thornham and Holme next the Sea.
There is a cafe, toilets and car park and it’s accessed from the main coast road.

Gorleston at the end by the Pier Hotel - has toilets and beach is lovely. Plus good crabbing!!

You have to watch the tide times all the way along the coast and in the Wash. Some people sniff at Hunstanton (rather than up market Old Hunstanton) but there's plenty of parking, loos on the approach to the beach, plenty of fish and chip/easy meals/cafes/ benches and (in season) dog free beaches as well as dog beaches. Easy large walkway access with buggies. If you want to go without the sound of fairground rides and clock golf, pirates train, Wash Monster (noisy amphibious boat that takes you to see seals) etc, you can just go turn north along the promenade and walk down to peace and tranquillity (down steep steps) to the beach by the cliffs. All sandy.

It just depends where you're staying and what the tide times are. Brancaster is great but go early or early evening (depending on tides) to avoid the rush.

I’ve seen a few recs for Holkham here but isn’t it a long walk and no toilets nearby?

Yeah ,it's my favourite beach but long walk to the toilets, really long walk to the sea too unless you hit the tides just right right and all the little lagoons fill up.

There is no longer a train to take you there.

some of these beaches I wouldn’t recommend for kids.

Hunstanton definitely or Old Hunstanton

Cromer or Sheringham or Mundesley

Great Yarmouth

Adelais · 02/09/2022 13:15

I’d really recommend Mundlesey. We went recently with a toddler and liked that it was a very short walk from the main car park to the beach and there was a playground next to the car park. Beach was really nice and there were toilets.

Matilda1981 · 02/09/2022 13:17

Check the tide times before you go - the sea goes out for miles in Norfolk!!! Old Hunstanton and Hunstanton are nice as are sheringham and Cromer - in fact most are nice when the tide isn’t too far away!!!!

Another vote for Brancaster, we have two toddlers and spend most of our Norfolk time there. There's plenty of space and you can decide how far in you want to walk (as in, how far from the loos). We like to turn right and head up to the dunes and plant ourselves there for the day but sometimes we turn left and stick closer to the club house. Also a nice walk to the seal pool if you have an all terrain buggy/carriers and kids need a nap!

Holkham is lovely, we've gone just for the woods a few times but it's a lot of walking which we do with a buggy. No toilets apart from near the car park as others have said.

Greengr · 02/09/2022 13:22

I'd say Hemsby, not as 'chic' as others but a lovely beach. Also Waxham is nearby but not sure re the toilets.
Gorleston is nice and they also have a splash park and boating pond.

ffsonly46 · 02/09/2022 13:24

Yes yes yes West Runyon

Clymene · 02/09/2022 13:45

Brancaster or Wells. Wells has the little train too and kids love it

Bluevelvetcake2 · 02/09/2022 14:07

Thanks so much! Will look into Brancaster and Mundesley. Does Wells have toilets nearby? (I’ve just potty trained one of my toddlers so we spend a lot of time in the toilet!)

to me, Brancaster & Mundesley are far apart. Where are you travelling from?

I am going to put a plug in for Walcott. Toilets, chippy, sand, shop, ramp access (at southern end). All there. Sea Palling & Yarmouth good, too.

Bluevelvetcake2 · 02/09/2022 14:27

We are staying near a place called Brisley so Brancaster and Wells are probably easier to get to

Yes you are probably right there. Last time I was at Brancaster there's no chippy. It's got loos and a little kiosky bit selling icecream, buckets and spades etc. We would usually do the beach bit there then drive over to wells for fish and chips after. If you park in the middle of wells it's a long walk out to the beach (although the harbour is nice) but there is a carpark down at the bottom nearer the beach with toilets and a cafe next door

RewildingAmbridge · 02/09/2022 15:34

Gorleston is really good for little ones wide beach, a splash park and boating lake, toilets easily accessible

MotherWol · 02/09/2022 15:42

If you’re staying at Brisley (at The Bell? Awesome food!) check out Gressenhall work house nearby. Really interesting museum, great playground, nice café.

babysharktooth · 02/09/2022 15:52

West Runton was a hit with the toddlers in my family this year. Mundesley is also lovely l, as is Overstrand (although not sure about the toilet situation at Overstrand)

Longdistance · 02/09/2022 15:53

There’s toilets in the car park at Overstrand.

Daisydukes79 · 02/09/2022 12:42

Happisburgh - accessible with a pram (small slope to the beach) toilets, playground and ice cream van and ample parking at the top

Wasn't the path to Happisburgh beach washed away in the winter storms?

Sea palling, Winterton, West Runton, Gorleston are our favourites...

lljkk · 02/09/2022 22:40

the path to Happisburgh beach gets washed away regularly. Rebuilt, washed away, rebuilt. I keep calculating how many years longer the church, lighthouse & that big manor house have left. I've tried pacing it out including pacing out how much cliff has washed away since I lived in the area. Anyway, OP needs somewhere like Brancaster.
