I know it's bleak, but can we have a lovely autumn thread? There must be something to look forward to surely...

I know everything is really worrying and bleak at the moment but I thought there must be something we can look forward to about autumn coming.

I am looking forward to:

Borrowing ghost stories from the library (they don't seem the same in warmer weather and lighter nights!)

Wearing dresses, tights and boots (I never feel as smart in the summer)

Walks in a nearby forest, maybe collecting conkers and taking a 'picnic' of a flask of hot water to heat up hotdogs and a flask of hot chocolate

Hot ribena or some other cordial

Soup for lunch...and dinner if I can get away with it!

The gentle warming glow from some of the many candles that people think I want as gifts.

Anyone else trying to find things to look forward to?

As we've had a long hot summer this year, the autumnal colours are going to be spectacular! Deep pinks reds and purples mixed n with the usual oranges yellows and browns. Lovely!

DoingJustFine · 28/08/2022 14:31

Ooh thank you!

I'm looking forward to:

🍂 Wearing my nice coat

🍂 Eating soup allllllll the time

🍂 Going for crispy walks

🍂 Watching new ITV drama

🍂 Making jam

🍂 Having a blanket on my bed

🍂 Getting that lovely "back to school" feeling and starting a new project

🍂 Spiced lattes

🍂 Darker evenings

KateBushyTail · 28/08/2022 14:32

I WFH so I am looking forward to rainy days, sofa, laptop and a blanket. Candle lit. And watching the rain from my patio doors. Bliss.

pumpkin spice everything.

autumn wreath on my door

DoingJustFine · 28/08/2022 14:32

Also can't wait for not having to water the plants every bloody day.

And my hideous neighbours will stop swearing in their garden.

VittysCardigan · 28/08/2022 14:33

Brushed cotton bedding. The first night getting into bed when i put these on is heaven, like getting into a giant hub.
Looking forward to wearing my fur lined DM's again.
Soup!
The leaves changing colour on the trees, especially in my local park.

I do like going for long walks without sweating and getting sunburn!

Pretty leaves.

Love horror and ghost stories and films, and the weather will suit them better.

Won't have to shave so often if I can't be bothered 😁

Don't mind darker nights actually (I don't like dark mornings though.)

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 28/08/2022 14:35

Proper Jumps racing ! Fingers crossed for rain.
Doing the autumn table settings: orange and red and gold, dried leaves, the red glasses, the red handled knives. I m getting tired of salad so hello casseroles.

KangarooKenny · 28/08/2022 14:37

I went in the Range yesterday and they had Xmas stuff out 🥳
I love the run up to Xmas with frosty mornings and watching Xmas films under a blanket.

RedLem0nade · 28/08/2022 14:38

Ooh I love a good Autumn thread!

I’m looking forward to making blackberry and apple jam. I picked a big basket of them today and there’ll be lots more to come- agree with PP it’s been a great year for them!
Also looking forward to woolly jumpers and (fake) fur lined boots.

Does anyone have suggestions for what to do with sloes that doesn’t involve gin?!

Badtasteflump · 28/08/2022 14:39

OP I love Autumn but I'm just not ready for this thread ....so I'm marking my place for in a few more weeks 🙂. I'm still in full on summer mode here - schools still off, weather still v hot and having a BBQ shortly - Autumn feels ages away!

I look forward to the return of good TV after the wasteland that is summer dramas. Soup for lunch. Plus I love my autumn dresses, can't wait to wear them again. Oh yes, and proper autumn pj's!

mbosnz · 28/08/2022 15:05

I'm looking forward to my lovely friend's Halloween party. In NZ, it was very rare to have dress up parties. Hers is all out!

I love the leaves, the smell of the air, the way the sun sets so languidly, late after noon.

Rain!

Foraging for berries, and making crumble.

Custard and ice cream, and hot chocolate.

I love the seasons in this country. I love watching my neighbours and the community embrace them, with all their traditions and habits.

mbosnz · 28/08/2022 15:05

Oh, and Pumpkin Pie! (I make a mean one).

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 28/08/2022 15:21

Yes to dress and boots! My favourite outfit.

I have a load of lovely coats on my Vinted watchlist going to pick one soon to add to my collection.

I'm currently knitting a new scarf can't wait to wear it.

I have also never tried a pumpkin spice latte but will give it a go this year I think.

DH makes the best fruit crumble so I can't wait for that either.

Also yes to spooky stories and darker nights.

I always love when the season changes!

BreakfastOfWaffles · 28/08/2022 16:10

Just thought of another one - being able to have a candlelit bath without having to wait until gone 9pm.

Moonface123 · 28/08/2022 16:15

Walks and bike rides
Planning new flower borders for next year
Early nights with good book
Switch up self care

DrCoconut · 28/08/2022 17:18

Nooo. We get so precious little nice weather, don't go wishing it away! I'm not nearly ready to wave goodbye to the first decent summer in a few years. I'm already starting to feel a bit anxious with the days getting a lot shorter now. I'd happily get rid of autumn and winter altogether if I could.

MinnieMountain · 28/08/2022 17:23

Normally I’d agree with you @DrCoconut but this summer has been too blimin hot.

Also cycling through crunchy leaves.

MrsMoastyToasty · 28/08/2022 17:25

My birthday.

dudsville · 28/08/2022 17:29

@Roundlampshade someone did mention on a thread somewhere recently that the slow cooker was cheaper!
