Dd10 has a dreadful rash all over her body (pic attached with one part). From her private parts to her scalp, I mean all over her body.

Had various creams from docs. But still no diagnosis.

She is so itchy, she has only slept fitfully for days. Last saw gp yesterday (friday) who prescribed yet another cream.

Shes crying with the itch and exhaustion.

I'm desperate for her.

Can I take her to a and e in desperation?

That’s awful op. Can she take an antihistamine? It would make her sleepy i think? But I’ve no idea if that’s safe. What do they think is causing the rash? You must be exhausted

Serena1977 · 28/08/2022 00:35

@Eloisedublin123 shes been on piriton for weeks, now adding calpol. The gp doesn't know what is causing. They just keep prescribing lots of different creams. Nothing's working.

I'm not normally one for a and e willy nilly but we're desperate.

She's sat in a cool bath, she's shivering but says it helps slightly.

Poor thing. I’m sure you’ve tried calamine lotion (sp?) sounds stupid but cool natural yogurt? Ah it’s awful

If shes shivering
Please get her out of the bath

Nat6999 · 28/08/2022 00:38

She may need steroids if antihistamines aren't working.

Eloisedublin123 · 28/08/2022 00:41

I saw somewhere a gluten intolerance can cause a rash but that’s not going to help you at midnight
a cool bedroom and white noise and she may drop off

EmmiJay · 28/08/2022 00:42

That looks like a big folliclitus (?) flare up.. you might be given a steroid cream (I was given it and it helped alot) or maybe antibiotics (steriods didn't help my sister's flare up but antibiotics did😵‍💫) I'd want to take my DD to a&e if I was you. Its a really uncomfortable itch. Good luck!

FlibbertyGiblets · 28/08/2022 00:43

I am no medic, first off.

What I would do this weekend is consider rewashing all her clothes, and bedding, and towels in fairy powder, not liquid or pods or tablets just the box powder, no fabric conditioner. That should reduce the contact dermatitis possibility from laundry detergent.

Simple soap only, not shower gel or scented products in her bath or shower.

Ask GP on Monday for an urgent referral to a dermatologist, see a pharmacist tomorrow to ask if they can recommend and sell you an alternative to piriton.

A and E will not be any use, it isn't either an accident or an emergency, I am afraid. So sorry, poor girl.

CadburyCrunchy · 28/08/2022 00:43

How long has your DD had the rash? If it's viral it can last up to 2 or 3 weeks and a covid rash in children is exactly like this... an anti inflammatory such as neurofen will definitely help to reduce the itch and the redness...

Eupraxia · 28/08/2022 00:46

I don't think this is an accident or emergency. I'd especially nit go to A&E over bank holiday weekend for a rash.

  • Try speaking to a pharmacist tomorrow
  • Get a GP appointment Tuesday
  • If she cannot cope, go to the out if hours urgent care centre
Serena1977 · 28/08/2022 00:46

The creams have all been steroid based but it's getting worse. The tube is tiny. I don't know how they expect me to apply it. The rash is over her entire body except feet, hands and face.

Shes out of the bath, stopped shivering. Waiting for dh to get home to decide. It's got worse since he went to work.

The weird thing is she doesn't feel poorly, just itchy, sore, hot and exhausted.

I've tried various lotions, tried umpteen pharmacists and doctors.

Nothing has changed by way of diet, wash powder, soaps etc. No insects, no unusual activities.

@CadburyCrunchy

She started with it 5th June and it has crept and crept all over her body. In that time we've seen doctors, nurses, pharmacists. We have had prescription after prescription.

The poor thing.

AbsolutelyEverything · 28/08/2022 00:51

Has she been in a hot tub?

Serena1977 · 28/08/2022 00:55

@AbsolutelyEverything no hot tubs.

I’m no medic either but someone else on this site ( an adult) had a similar rash recently and it turned out to be celiac disease but I’ve got no idea of course if this is anything like that but I remember reading it, so In case it helps I’m mentioning as I’ve a girl the same age and I’d hate to have her so miserable:(

ReeseWitherfork · 28/08/2022 00:57

I think if exhaustion is the main issue here then don’t take her to A&E. I’d be shocked if she got an answer tonight even if they could do anything for her, so you’ll just make her more tired and there is no guarantee she’ll crash. Do what you can to get her to sleep, or at least doze off in front of a happy film or whatever. And then maybe call 111 and plead to them, explaining how unsuccessful the GP has been and how desperate you are getting. You never know they maybe able to help 🤞

Catclown · 28/08/2022 00:58

Can you get an out of hours dr appointment? I have been to them with my children and sometimes they can have a bit longer in appointment and can sometimes help get to the bottom of things? Different perspective kind of.

Hope you get to the bottom of it soon tho, could it be a fungal rash if steriods and antihistamines haven't worked?

barneymcgroo · 28/08/2022 00:59

Has she been in the sun?

Serena1977 · 28/08/2022 01:01

@barneymcgroo no sun, been indoors because I daren't risk putting sun cream on her.

OP posts:
CadburyCrunchy · 28/08/2022 01:02

@Serena1977 ok I assume your DD has had blood tests by now if the rash has been going on since June 5th. It's good though that she feels otherwise well in herself. It's most likely to be sort of a long virus. The fact you say it's got worse within the last day or so could mean her body is finally ridding her system of it especially if skin starts to peel. It could also be an allergy that's developed such as to foods like bananas or tomatoes...

Eupraxia · 28/08/2022 01:03

I'd suggest distraction techniques to get her to sleep. Headphones an an ebook do it for me. Or puzzles to keep her thinking and engaged.

barneymcgroo · 28/08/2022 01:03

Ah okay. I had an INCREDIBLY itchy rash after being in the sun a while ago - lasted ages. Turned out to (I think) be polymorphic light eruptions, which I'd never even heard of, so just wanted to check it wasn't that. Sorry I can't be more helpful, and I hope she improves soon - it sounds like no fun at all, for her or you. X

Serena1977 · 28/08/2022 01:05

@CadburyCrunchy no blood tests have ever been done just prescription for creams.

This is whats left me considering a and e, desperation really.

CaptainBarbosa · 28/08/2022 01:32

Ummm it's not scabies is it?

Hot, itchy, exhausted but no other symptoms, steroids and antihistamines not helping. Intense non stop itching.

Did the GP check for scabies? It's easily treated if it is. So don't panic.
