Dd10 has a dreadful rash all over her body (pic attached with one part). From her private parts to her scalp, I mean all over her body.

Had various creams from docs. But still no diagnosis.

She is so itchy, she has only slept fitfully for days. Last saw gp yesterday (friday) who prescribed yet another cream.

Shes crying with the itch and exhaustion.

I'm desperate for her.

Can I take her to a and e in desperation?

@CaptainBarbosa

I mentioned that to the gp, but he ruled it out because it is easily spread from person to person so he would expect us all in the same household to have it by now because dd has had rash since June.

I wouldn't be too sure of that, I had scabies as a child, lived in a house with my mother, brother, and father. Only I had it.

I remember it though, the intense heat and itching. Felt like my skin was on fire and cold water was the only relief I could find.

I'd ask for them to double check, not spreading isn't a reason to rule out out.

She needs to see a dermatologist, not be dicked around by a GP throwing spaghetti at the wall, trying cream after interminable cream for weeks and weeks, while she’s suffering and miserable.

She needs to be seen by someone who knows what they’re looking at. GPs usually only know the most common skin issues. Has your GP made a referral? If not, I’d be onto them first thing Tuesday insisting on this. I’m not sure A&E will be able to do anything, unless they happen to have a dermatologist on on a Saturday night.

I'd be at the gp first thing Tuesday asking for blood tests. Sorry I know that doesn't help right now.

@StickywithSuncream
No mention of referrals, blood tests etc.

Nothing at all. Just cream after cream. And told to give piriton and calpol.

I think this is why some consider a and e. Desperation to be heard. Especially with children/vulnerables

Can you see the wait times at your local a&e? I'd be tempted if it was quiet

NCTDN · 28/08/2022 02:52

Having said that the wait times for mine is currently over 4 hours.

You need to take her back to GP and demand an urgent referral to dermatology, don't let them fob you off. Whatever they have tried is clearly not working and the poor lass is suffering. It's good that she is not feeling unwell, but she is going to end up really run down if her sleep continues to be disrupted.

CatSeany · 28/08/2022 03:36

I'm not sure the ED would be able to help with a rash lasting several weeks. It's not their specialty. If it's been that long then the GP is the best place (might take a while of trial and error with creams because rashes aren't clear cut) and ask for an urgent dermatology referral. If you've got the money then I would go for a private dermatologist.

Benzyl benzoate is for scabies you can buy it OTC. Pure Aloe Vera gel reduces heat and swelling and can be used on broken skin. If it's fungal an anti fungal wash will reduce the itching and start the healing.

TBH if it was me I'd be going out tomorrow, purchasing and treating with all 3. Wash first and read the instructions she might have to stand around with it on for a few mins, aloe vera gel once dry, then scabies cream once the aloe vera has sunk right in.

Boil wash everything you can in case it's fungal or scabies.

Socks on her hands for bed time and short nails, so she can't scratch herself in her sleep and make it worse. If there's infection scratching can help spread it.

If cold is helping, put ice packs in the freezer for her to wrap in a tea towel and put on the worse area for a while when she's awake. Don't get to the point she's sitting in a cold bath shivering, do a preventative/maintenance measure of cold shower 3x a day for 5min.

I took my daughter to A&E when she had a rash that wasn't healing, I called 111 and they advised I taker her. She had a skin infection and was given antibiotics. Call 111 and see what they advise, especially as it's a BH weekend
