How many loads of washing can you hang out at once?

I can just about squeeze 2 loads on our short line and the two folding dryers we have. Just wondering as I sometimes read that people spend the day doing washing but it doesn't really take that long so perhaps they are doing more loads? Or including ironing too maybe.
I'm moving soon and excited to have a rotary dryer for the first time. I know I need to get out more Grin

Only 2 9th loads on my rotary. A friend of king does all washing in one day load after load one in the wash one in the tumble.

Coughee · 27/08/2022 22:45

I did 4 the other day. Fit them all on the rotary line.

onlyconnect · 27/08/2022 22:45

2 just. I never have enough pegs which sounds as if it's easily solved but in fact never seems to be.

2-3 on our rotary line (depends what they are). 10kg capacity machine.

I’ve done 4 loads today though because it dried quickly in the sun so then I could get another load on

pensionconfusion · 27/08/2022 22:47

Usually 3 on old fashioned lines.

dementedpixie · 27/08/2022 22:48

About 1½ loads on my whirly. My washing machine takes 9kg though

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 27/08/2022 22:48

2 on the line but I have to folding airers that I put out as well that take another load as well.

Today the weather was so nice I did 4 loads, amazing drying weather!

Floralnomad · 27/08/2022 22:50

I normally run out of pegs before I run out of line , how many loads depends on what I’ve washed .

UpsideDownDownsideUp · 27/08/2022 22:50

Depends 3 if like bedding on the high line.
But clothes for some reason often take up More space. But definitely 2

Plus i have 2 airers but never use outside as things dry really fast on high line and south facing garden

hugoagogo · 27/08/2022 22:50

3 outside 3 inside

BobMortimersPocketMeat · 27/08/2022 22:50

I’ve got a four-arm rotary and can get 3 loads from my 7kg machine on it. I usually get it out before I start work (wfh) and leave it all out until after work - it takes a while to put out and get in, especially when one of the loads includes a million socks!

Flatmountains · 27/08/2022 22:51

Two. I do miss my old rotary, it looked lovely with all the baby clothes on it.

SheWoreYellow · 27/08/2022 22:51

1 outdoor and 2 indoor.

I presume people who spend a whole day on the washing are using a tumble dryer.

mountainsunsets · 27/08/2022 22:56

Two outside, plus another inside if absolutely necessary but I hate drying stuff indoors as the cats sit on it 🤣

Mossstitch · 27/08/2022 22:57

@onlyconnect I know exactly what you mean, no matter how many I buy they slowly but surely disappear (I blame my sons who fasten large bags of crisps with them). But to answer the question, two loads on the line then if desperate I use two maidens and put them outside too. Not a fan of rotary ones, prefer an old fashioned line🤷

mumda · 27/08/2022 23:12

One at a time. Because that's how many loads my washer can do. Assuming I'm early enough in the day then two loads.
I've got a new rotary but have kept the old one too in case I feel the urge to dry four loads a day.

buddhasbelly · 27/08/2022 23:18

This is where the thing that you can hang socks and pants on comes in handy, saves a lot of space! I don’t know what it’s actually called but as the pegs are attached to it I seem to lose less.

soupmaker · 27/08/2022 23:19

3 on lines in the garden. I have four washing line poles. I also have two airers and a pulley. There is a lot of washing generated in this house!

Ikea sells something like this. I find it useful

Brigante9 · 27/08/2022 23:21

2 on the rotary.

Sunflower987 · 27/08/2022 23:24

I can usually fit about 4 loads depending on what I wash, I can do more than 4 loads a day on warm days (so bringing in the things that are dry and then putting more freshly washed on) especially If I change all the bed sheets.

Intothewoodland · 27/08/2022 23:33

Two or three. Maybe four with aired and chairs.

I call ours the socktopus

Kite22 · 27/08/2022 23:38

I have two lines. But a full load usually fills about 1 and a 1/3 to 1 and 1/2.

I like them to be well spread out and then the washing dries quicker.
This Summer, some stuff has dried in a couple of hours so can take that in and put the next lot up on those really hot days. Other than that, I don't try to put more than one full load and maybe a 1/2 load out.

LetsGoNorth · 27/08/2022 23:48

5 at once if I'm not using the tumble dryer.

  • Two large airers which hold a load each of foldable items like trousers, shorts, PJs - each item is draped over 2 bars for quicker drying. They stand on the patio in the sun and get carried in if need be. 0
  • One load of sheets or towels on the outside line.
  • Two loads of tops which are dried on hangers indoors, hanging from the huge curtain pole over the double doors in the lounge.

I have completely stopped pegging tops out - I dislike having a rail full of hangers in the living room but it's by far the easiest way to dry them with least faff.

I tumble dry all socks and pants. They take such a relatively short time to tumble, I really cba at the thought of pegging or draping each individual item!
