First period - where to get period pants?

wheredidIleavemystyle · 27/08/2022 01:45

DD had her first period while she was visiting her gran.

She waited to get home to tell me, she was really proud about it!

I've agreed to take her shopping tomorrow so we can put together a bag so she can be prepared next time. I was hoping to get her period knickers from Primark but they seem to have stopped doing them, can anyone confirm?

And I looked on the M&S site but I could only find adult ones.

Will we have to get them online or are there any places that do them in-store? She's only 9 but wears size 11-12 clothes.

We're going for cake after shopping, I want to spoil her a bit.

Wow. I am a 40 year old woman and I never knew these things existed.....🤯

I only found out recently! I have M&S's ones, they're comfy.

I got some in Primark the the last couple of months - for both DD and me (bought DD small adult sizes).

£6 each (although they were on offer). Figured it didn’t hurt to try at that point. They’ve been great although I will say both me and DD have relatively light periods (thank God!)

Halstead · 27/08/2022 07:41

in the last couple of months

at that price

SquirrelSoShiny · 27/08/2022 07:44

I'm zero help with the pants but thank you so much for the book recommendation! ❤

gogohmm · 27/08/2022 07:46

Just read the pages of that book, definitely a case of know your child. Both of mine would have found that style very patronising. We stuck to biology here, worked well.

As to the pants sizing, just get the smallest size. My dd still has tatty 11-12 pants and she's an adult, she also has size 8 pants ive more recently bought her(I hung her washing out, told her off for not chucking it out!) Grin. She wears size 6-8 adult clothes and has kids shorts still, very small. She has modibodi red ones, bought them 3 years ago still like new

CallmeMrsPricklepants · 27/08/2022 07:51

Honestly the modibodi ones are worth it. They are very comfy, absorb well.

You could also look at the cheeky wipes website. They also do reuseable pads.

WhatsitWiggle · 27/08/2022 07:52

Modibodi Red are expensive but really well made. DD has 12 pairs now (bought over several months and whenever there's offers) and once she stopped growing so I get my money's worth! We just went with black shorts so they are plain under school uniform.

The knicker style ones seem to come up smaller than the shorts.

Uniqlo also have some 2 pairs for £20, the XS would be a ladies 6-8 which fits DD in age 13-14.

WhatsitWiggle · 27/08/2022 07:54

I also couldn't find any in Primark in the last couple of weeks. If you do, I'd suggest XXS would be the right size for your DD (ladies size 4-6).

Hopeandlove · 27/08/2022 07:55

wheredidIleavemystyle · 27/08/2022 07:09

Wow, the bundles are over £100!! Shock

I see the modibodi ones come in red, black or a range of coloured designs (mostly blue). Black and bright red aren't really DD's style and the other ones are pretty much all sold out in her size.

Worth every penny - and no need to go out in a lesson and change a pad, no leaking etc and no smell or sitting on a bulky pad.

m we brought the red 14-16 ones in black and they are fab, you don’t look at the colour of your own pants.

For the bag
some pain meds

A couple of hard sweets for a sugar craving

A little container of hand sanitizer and tissues rather than wet wipes

a little plastic bag (as i have recently been in a 2 womens toilets which weirdly had no bin in the cubicle)

Victoria's secret sizing guide. It'd be handy if they put relevant kids age sizes on it not just adult women sizes!

Trying to work out which one is age 10-11 or 11-12...

It's either X small or XX small, but if I compare them to Boden's measurements* then age UK 11 translated for hips for X small on VS but XX small for the waist. Victoria's Secret assumes a smaller waist / curvier body shape, basically.

So I'm still confused! Also it doesn't help that VS only lists sizes in inches.

This is harder than I thought. I didn't expect to be doing maths before breakfast!

*(I know, I know, how very Mumsnet! But it was the first one that came up on Google!)

My 9 year old (clothes age 10-11y) wears XXS from WUKA. Not cheap but she loves them. Even wears the light flow sometimes when she doesn't have her period because they're so comfortable apparently.

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/08/2022 08:25

Earthwise girls sell wuka pants.

Personally I think I would hold off. They are great but expensive. Shes nine. Its her first one. It could be months until the next one. There's a real chance she could grow out of them before any of the pants got much use.

They do take a longer time to dry than regular underwear so the turn around can be a little slow making it harder to get away with just 1 or 2 pairs to start.

Earthwise do have some on clearance though so if money isn't to much of an issue then that might be an option.

Well done you and your dd. Lovely its all come about with no drama and no upset.

Ok, Victoria's secret has a nice range of colours but trying to make sense of their sizing...

What women's clothes size is age 11 girls' clothes? Is it a 6 maybe? Or a 4?

www.victoriassecret.co.uk/search?w=Period&af=style:hipster&isort=score

Go for XS

OnceBitten25 · 27/08/2022 08:38

I got these for my daughter. £17 for three pairs. She has a fairly light flow and these work well for her. They're from Amazon.

First period - where to get period pants?
RayneDance · 27/08/2022 08:43

What's size m and s please for slim 14/15 year old

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 27/08/2022 08:47

I got DD the starter pack from Cheeky Wipes, its a UK company and delivery is pretty fast. It came with pants, reusable pads, some face cloths etc.

Some period pants dont offer full coverage, I think the Primark ones were like that only went part way up the back, the staining on the edges were also hard to get off on the lighter colours.

I'd also get a microwave heat pad for her to add to your period pack, you can get boring shapped ones or DD has a bagpus one to help with cramps.

I boight the same pants for DD, on recommendation from a friend. They do the job. And they're only £17 for three pairs.

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/08/2022 08:58

Word of warning about cheeky pants. I leaked through the sporty one with nothing more than a slight cup leak. I ordered 2 different styles both the same size and the sizing was completely different. One didnt fit at all. They were also really " rustley"

I really think/have found period pants are the kind of thing where you buy cheap and you regret it. Theres no comparison at all between the cheap alternatives and the market leader. Its a real shame they are all so expensive

HelenaJustina · 27/08/2022 09:03

I bought the same as oncebitten for both my DD. They wear them with pads/tampons for the heavier days (they are not really meant to be worn alone) but find them utterly invaluable for the few days running up for peace of mind. And same at the tail end as well.
