If you were struggling with money ...would you get your hair done?

Basically this month is a bit of a tight month.
Due to paying off holiday and going away next weekend for 3 nights.
So paid out over £1000 on it all.
So my hair apt is due Wednesday and that is £115 or I postpone it till for 4 weeks time and use that £115 towards spends for trip away next weekend.
At the min I have £300 spending money but obviously if I don't get hair done up have £415
My hair is highlighted and hasn't been done in 3 months so I have roots.
What would you do?

I would go brown/your natural colour with a box dye to save the cost going forward

MarshaMelrose · 26/08/2022 20:17

The problem either blackpol is the weather is unpredictable and it gets windy, so you're constantly being driven to go inside somewhere to escape. And all these places add up. But you're looking at £600-700 for the two of you, for basically two full days and two half days. I really think you should be able to manage on that much.
I promise you no one will notice or care about your roots so you could just style it out. But I think you've enough money to do both. (Disclaimer: I am a notoriously mean spender!)

Your roots look lovely - you’re worrying needlessly! I’d leave them, you can easily get away with it 😊

PenguinLove1 · 26/08/2022 20:22

Maybe ask the hairdresser to do a root melt or something so that roots arent as noticeable as your hair grows, will mean you can stretch it longer in between appointments

RoobarbandCustud · 26/08/2022 20:22

I think your hair looks lovely. Rock chick chic. The roots are fine, who even notices except you.

blondsalop · 26/08/2022 20:22

You can't actually tell when I've got my glasses on my head so I'm hoping for sunshine 😂
I think it's as in the past I've gone away and had to count every penny ..so for once it would be nice to know I have enough money (if that makes sense )

I think it looks fine - that slightly grown out looks is quite fashionable these days anyway. I’d want the extra spends.

AthenaPopodopolous · 26/08/2022 20:28

To be honest your hairs looking over foiled and there’s little difference in tone. If you don’t like the roots maybe just try a box dye like a nice L’Oréal colour. I’d definitely have it coloured though as the blonde is nice. You’d feel lovely having your hair done for going away and you needn’t spend much. U could do it yourself at home.

JulieMarooley · 26/08/2022 20:39

I don’t think you can afford to keep up the blonde, given you are going to be down to your last £100 this month, and we’re heading into an expensive winter.

Unless you have savings and are just trying not to dip into them? Or perhaps a student living with parents? It seems a very precarious financial situation you are in and I personally would be cancelling the weekend away as well.

blondsalop · 26/08/2022 20:42

The only reason I'm short this month as I paid off my holiday abroad £700then Blackpool £300
That's £1000 paying for holidays and money I would normally have.

OP posts:
DustinsHat · 26/08/2022 20:42

Is it £300 just for you (in which case get your hair done) or you and kids (in which case I would wait to get hair done)

blondsalop · 26/08/2022 20:42

No £300 just for me

OP posts:
Vthirtyone · 26/08/2022 20:46

From the Hairdresser 's point of view, can I just point out how difficult it is if appointments are cancelled last minute? We rely on that income and we're notoriously low paid. Give as much notice as possible so at least they can try and fill the appointment and not just lose money

JulieMarooley · 26/08/2022 20:49

So do you live month to month with no savings? I don’t think it’s wise to spend all your money on luxuries and have no buffer.

But plenty of people are saying to spend it, or even put it on credit card; I thought we were in a cost of living / energy bills crisis!

LadyCatStark · 26/08/2022 20:53

Your hair looks fine as it is but £300 will be plenty for a weekend in Blackpool for one person. So I’m not very helpful sorry.

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 26/08/2022 20:54

Hairdresser here.

Cancellation with plenty of notice isn't a problem normally as they have time to fill the space

Rebook for when your back or the month after and enjoy the extra money on your trip op.

Don't scrimp while your away op so you can enjoy your break

blondsalop · 26/08/2022 20:55

The salon I go to is a very busy popular salon and any cancellations normally go within the hour.
It's the kind of place that you have to book weeks in advance so I know they will get another booking to take my spot if I do cancel

I will give up a lot of things before I give up my cut and colour

blondsalop · 26/08/2022 20:56

@wtfisgoingonhere21 yeah when I'm away and have to watch every penny I can't enjoy myself
Logging on to online banking every time I buy something

@blondsalop

Being that hair is my business and earns my living I still would put mine off so I didn't scrimp on holiday

I had to do the scrimping thing for years and it can be miserable when your away so go have fun 🤩

TheLizardQueen · 26/08/2022 21:01

I really like roots with blonde highlights. It looks good, I’d leave it for a few weeks so you’re not struggling on your holidays

goldenbag · 26/08/2022 21:04

Leave it - your roots look great and far more fashionable in summer than the overly done look.

ILoveAnOwl · 26/08/2022 21:08

I've had to make the decision to go back to box dye. I'm gutted, but can't justify the price anymore.
