If you were asked to participate in an ID parade would you?

In the afternoon today, when on a break from work I was out in the town centre and I was approached by two officers which took me a bit by surprise, who then told me or I fit the description of a woman who committed an incident recently in the town centre.
I was then asked if I would have any objections in taking part in an identity parade tomorrow.
Of course I have nothing to hide so I agreed to it though naturally, as have not been in that position before I do not know what to expect

Of course as a crime was committed and I would like to do my bit if I need to help

ErrolTheDragon guess since I was first stopped my thoughts were the police could suspect me, but guess I am being silly

I have agreed to it anyway to go down there tomorrow

Absolutely no way.

AnnaKorine · 25/08/2022 23:04

Yes I would agree. They only ask if they lack particular types on the database and it cannot ever be used against you if you are positively identified in such a situation.

May be different but I had to pick some one out of an identity parade /line up.
They weren't there physically. It was videos 6 or 7 similar looking men. Face on, side on profile.
Less daunting to face that

When I was at 6th form we got requests all the time to take part in identity parades. Sadly there weren't many crimes committed by 6ft white women in the city so I never got to take part.

I seem to remember you could be paid for them. One of the lads in my form did it a lot.

Oh god I’d forgotten this! They used to come into our 6th form college a lot.. they only wanted the boys though.

Blackdiame · 25/08/2022 23:16

It's all recorded to video now isn't it? Well when I had to ID a suspect from a 'line up' it was all done on video recordings not behind the glass like on TV.

maddy68 · 25/08/2022 23:21

Yes. They know who they highly suspect. It's not as if the witness would point a finger at you. If they did it would be dismissed

But what happens if the person id's you? That would be my fear....that I'd be innocent but I'd be arrested and have to be in solitary for 30yrs 😕

I watch a lot of movies....

DH asked them this when he did it, he was at college so around 17.
Apparently that's not how it works. Thankfully!

He didn't actually get to do the line-up as the suspect didn't show up. So it was a bit of an anticlimax.

I'd love to do it. I was really excited to do Jury duty, which was draining but also fascinating, though it felt very surreal

cherylturner1980 · 26/08/2022 01:37

Probably the reason I agreed to it is I have nothing to hide and also thought they may have an idea who they looking for already and just a routine thing

Blackdiame VIPER was mentioned yes, which would be visual

I have heard in certain police stations though they do use a traditional line up

CakeCrumbs44 · 26/08/2022 08:02

I would totally do it, it would be so interesting to see how it works. If course if you're chosen as the perpetrator, you wouldn't be arrested - I can't believe anyone would think that!!

cherylturner1980 · 26/08/2022 09:44

Suppose this idea had been going through my head, about potentially being picked out wrongly and arrested which may sound silly

Nah they won't do that. They don't just arrest the person who gets picked out. They have a suspect and its just to say look the victim managed to identify them out of all these other people.

Allthegoodnamesaregoneffs · 26/08/2022 09:51

I did this as a teen about 30 years ago, was just out with a mate and got approached by an officer to see if we would do it.

They gave us a lift to/from the station, and they said they knew the guy was guilty but it was more about building a stronger case against him.

Got paid £10 each which to us was a huge amount of money

cherylturner1980 · 26/08/2022 09:53

Was supposed to be in work today, though I have to be down there for 11am so explained to my manager what happened, and intending to go back in to work after this is all done

MichonnesBBF · 26/08/2022 09:57

My brothers used to get asked all the time (we lived very close to the police station) they loved it, as they got paid for literally doing nothing.
I never got asked 😞

MoodyTwo · 26/08/2022 10:00

Oh how exciting! I would, but I'd also love to be on jury duty ...

cherylturner1980 · 26/08/2022 10:02

Havent had much of a sleep, but guess I been overthinking things when I know of course I want to do my bit to help

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/08/2022 10:04

No, what if I was picked out 😱

Ziggyisthebestdogintheworld · 26/08/2022 10:04

My dad did this years ago
they asked for men aged 20-50
he rocked up,had his mugshot taken and left
it took him longer to get to the cop shop than it did for him to have it done
he said he’d never do it again-there was no need as they had his picture but it was an easy £20 in his pocket
he was quite proud of it for some reason

BuildersTeaMaker · 26/08/2022 10:05

When I was at uni in 80s, police came into our halls of residence probably once per week looking for volunteers. It was popular as there was a bit of cash and was seen as a bit of a laugh
issue was that not once in my year in those halls did they ever need female lineup volunteers. Only the men. We were a bit hacked off that the women of Newcastle upon Tyne were clearly a law abiding lot. 🙄🤣

Dougieowner · 26/08/2022 10:06

I wouldn't have a problem doing it.

cherylturner1980 · 26/08/2022 10:09

Well will soon find out how it all goes, and hopefully doesnt take too long

I have appeared in an ID parade. They gave me £10, which I donated to charity. Jury service is even more interesting.

Whatwouldscullydo · 26/08/2022 10:10

Part of me thinks it would be a little exciting ( I have no life)

But the sensible part knows that having lived and worked in my home town all my life that I'd be recognised and picked even if it wasn't me because they would just know me.

Plus it would be a good way for eveeyone I've ever barred/refused service/IDd to be able to get their own back.
