Job that pays £10K after tax working one day a week…

Is there such a thing?
I work Tuesday to Thursday as a Quality Auditor in the chemical industry. I would like to work Friday for a pretty easy job (even customer service) that pays £10k after tax (maybe wishful thinking)
what can I do? I was thinking maybe a checker for science work etc. I am not sure. Any ideas on what I could do?

So you need a pro rata £150k job. Are you qualified for one?

passport123 · 23/08/2022 17:54

Sorry pro rata £180k gross, not 150.

passport123 · 23/08/2022 17:55

Aah stupid typos! £80k

Baldrickhasaplan · 23/08/2022 17:56

Ooh I’d like a job like that too. Actually could I have £50k a day for 1 day a month?

GoldenGorilla · 23/08/2022 17:56

That sounds pretty challenging!
You don’t want to increase days in your main job?
What’s your actual tax level? Ie do you need to earn £20k for one day a week as it will be taxed at 50 percent?

RewildingAmbridge · 23/08/2022 17:57

So you need something that pays £250-£300 a day before stoppages, only you know if that's achievable in your industry

AmberGer · 23/08/2022 18:01

10k a year? A month? A day?

girlmom21 · 23/08/2022 18:07

She's clearly after something for 10k a year

MiauzenKatzenjammer · 23/08/2022 18:11

I think what you are looking for is a non-executive directorship or consultant role at a major corporation, but you would need to spend a few years as an MP first.

Ricardothesnowman · 23/08/2022 18:12

Do you actually think an easy job in customer service would pay fte of £75k?!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 23/08/2022 18:14

I'd love to hear where these easy jobs are that pay 75kpa.

Where you getting 180k?

Screwcorona · 23/08/2022 18:15

There are jobs. So one that's advertised near me is a support worker on 1x 24 hour shift a week. You would get around £270 for the shift. 8 hours are spent sleeping.

Scarletpetunias · 23/08/2022 18:34

Non-exec directors in NHS Trusts pay around £13K/year for approx 4/5 days per month. You’d need experience relevant to working at Board level though and it’s unlikely you’d only be required on a Friday!

EquallyDivided · 23/08/2022 18:37

Is there anything in your contract which restricts the sort of work you can do? I’m in a similar role and have two part time jobs but in both cases had to have authorisation from my directors to avoid conflict of interest. If not maybe consultancy, there are lots of small businesses who struggle a bit with eg ISO9001.

Anytimeiseeit · 23/08/2022 18:59

An easy job that pays that?? You’re joking surely

You could train as a plasterer.

RewildingAmbridge · 23/08/2022 21:02

DB works as a specialist plumber, current job is what he calls 'price work' but it's working out around £700 a day, self employed though and you'd need to be both a plumber and a highly qualified one and have the right industry contacts.

I was going to suggest something like this. Get in with a couple of certification bodies like Alcumus, BsI, LRQA on their consultant list and do consultancy for £500-600 a day. You'd pay a fee from that but would still hit your target, and would be doing things like Gap analysis for companies embarking on certification or offering an external 'internal audit' function.

EquallyDivided · 23/08/2022 21:25

Or supplier audits as a consultant / contractor. Only being able to do Fridays might be a problem though. Perhaps less so now they can be done remotely.

FreudayNight · 23/08/2022 21:27

would you be able to upskill to being a Qualified Person in Pharma’

EquallyDivided · 23/08/2022 21:39

Unless you are already working in pharma, or have extensive, recent experience and a sponsor becoming a QP is highly unlikely.

There is probably a huge amount of work in the medical device field right now due to the new regulations.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 23/08/2022 21:44

Customer service would be no where near that wage. I do 2 days a week, 10 hours a day and would earn about that but without other employment I'm under the tax threshold. You would need a niche skill for that wage expectation.

goldenbag · 23/08/2022 21:44

People are laughing, but non-exec in your relevant industry
