I’ve just bought a house 😊 Pretty regular for a large number of people but I wasn’t raised having a lot and I’m the first person in my wider family to own a property 😁

Tell me something you’re proud of yourself for at the moment 😊

I've got my daughter, my dog and a little flat, and a job, after having been homeless and an addict, without any treatment for the addiction and no family in this country. I'm very proud of that!

chorusline79 · 23/08/2022 06:11

Congratulations! Hope you are settling in well and enjoying your new home.
I am proud of myself for getting back into work after 5 years out having kids. Not where I want to be yet but feel lucky to be back in work and able to work from home.

Watermelonsugarhighlove · 23/08/2022 06:21

That is fantastic achievements for everyone 🥰

I got note of a new job yesterday, feeling like I am past it at 48🥺 it comes with a decent pay rise so takes a bit of cost of living pressures off us for a bit.

Well done everyone.

MsChatterbox · 23/08/2022 06:22

I taught an adult to swim that had tried several times with different teachers. I'm not a swim instructor so I felt quite proud 🤗

Becoming a Dad, lots of hardwork, stress and worry getting there, but very pleased I did it and very proud I managed to achieve, it seemed like an impossible goal so many times.

Getting sober

LoveKingGary · 23/08/2022 07:25

I drove a borrowed campervan the other week, on my own. Despite driving for 20 years I was pretty nervous about it as it was a manual (I have an automatic), very large, and very expensive.

I reversed it into the pitch with what felt like every fucker in the whole campsite watching... Managed it like a total pro 🤩

jillymcnilly · 23/08/2022 07:25

Learnt another language as an adult. Now live in that country and have to use that language for work. I was crap at languages at school.

StartupRepair · 23/08/2022 07:26

I got a new job last year at age 60. I have already got a temporary promotion.

Oh well done! I had to tow a boat up a steep grass slope on a campsite this summer. I have NEVER towed anything in my life. What made it worse was two people were helping to push the boat up the slope and I was terrified I was either going to take off with the pair of them going flying, or slide back down the slope and end up in the water. But due to logistics it was me or no one for the job.

TokyoSushi · 23/08/2022 07:34

I've just completed couch to 5K. In the first week I could barely run the 60 seconds, now I can quite happily trot along for 30 mins.

LoveKingGary · 23/08/2022 07:39

This is a nice thread.

@jillymcnilly that sounds stressful! I haven't towed anything but after the success of the campervan I'm considering trying a caravan...

Flatmountains · 23/08/2022 07:43

I'm still here. Its a hard bloody slog, but I keep going in the face of whatever the new crisis in my life is.

TheVolturi · 23/08/2022 07:49

Congratulations op! Enjoy it. And well done to everyone else.

Prettybubblesintheair · 23/08/2022 07:52

Getting sober, clean and getting a job and my kids back.

Congratulatons everyone on their achievements!

Vallmo47 · 23/08/2022 07:58

Congratulations everyone on their amazing achievements! It’s so lovely to hear.

I’m quite proud of myself for having lost 27 kilos (4.3 stone). A lot of it I gained due to strong medication but I’ve worked very hard to lose it. It’s amazing how much more confident I feel. Weight has a tendency to creep on but it truly didn’t in my case and the difference in energy is amazing.

lovelilies · 23/08/2022 08:26

I've raised 1 child to (nearly) adulthood! She's just joined the RAF and is doing so well. Grin

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 23/08/2022 08:31

Oh a love a positive thread!

I'm proud of going alcohol free. Week 10 and not missing it at all which never ceases to amaze me.

I'm also proud/chuffed that when it comes to fitness, I've found my tribe. I joined a women only, outdoor boot camp group and I love it so it's never a chore and I'm genuinely gutted when I can't go. They're a super supportive lot and I love the social element. Exercise is fun, would've thought it?! Grin

VoldemortsKitten · 23/08/2022 08:36

My 8yo to my 6yo half way through our drive to the beach for a holiday "no, mummy doesn't drink wine, I don't think she ever has." 6yo: "mummy you should try it one day daddy likes it!"

I am an alcoholic. Recovering. 3years ago I was in the depth of a dreadful addiction and almost wasn't here anymore. Every day I wake up and almost can't believe I escaped it.

But this, this is the best. They don't remember. They only know this me. And I like this me.

GoneWithTheWine1 · 23/08/2022 08:38

Being clean off drugs for 5 years this week. Smile
Best thing I've ever done!

WalkingOnSonshine · 23/08/2022 08:41

One of the main ones recently has been driving. I have a driving phobia and have basically cried every time I’ve sat in a drivers seat over the past 14 years.

I booked myself a refresher lesson, bought myself a car and have taken it out (with DH) about 5 times now. Each time I’ve been fine.

I’m plucking up the courage to go out on my own now.

ShirleyJackson · 23/08/2022 08:41

Being two years sober.
Having helped various students pass GCSE English when it didn’t look likely they would.
Getting fit in my forties despite decades of avoiding exercise.
Going to therapy and becoming a genuinely better person.
Getting a First in my Masters.

ThatshallotBaby · 23/08/2022 08:44

Learning to accept myself and what has happened to me, trying hard to stand up for myself.

LadyDP · 23/08/2022 08:47

Being able to drive a left hand drive car in Spain unaccompanied and feeling confident. Needed to do it but was dreading it. I prefer to drive there rather than in the UK now.

Temporaryname158 · 23/08/2022 08:48

@VoldemortsKitten this has really warmed my heart this morning! I don’t even know you but feel so proud of you (I hope this doesn’t come across in a condescending way). As the child of an alcoholic I feel so wonderfully happy for both you and your fabulous children who I hope continue to be your motivation!
