Just waved goodbye to perfectly good money through my own stupidity

I reckon dh & I have £120 in parking tickets heading our way. Dh drove mil in her car and didn't realise the car park had a time limit. I realised, but didn't tell dh, then misread my watch and was 20 mins over. Its got apr number plate recognition so think it's automatic. Feeling gutted, what a pair of idiots. We were shopping for cut price kids school shoes in the outlet 😭

Anyone else who might as well have waved goodbye to their money today?

What charge to get to Wembley?!

Is it some low emissions zone charge? I am scared to drive into London now as no idea what charge you have to pay where.

Why did he just d it online? He clearly had his phone with him. You go into ringo site, type in the location uaing the location number on the sign in the car park and then type in your license plate and pay. It isnt hard.

I nearly got caught like this recently as there was no data on my phone. I did manage to get it done eventually on the automated ringo phone call by typing the credit card number in on the phone call but it took about 5 goes as kept failing. It is blimmin hard if you have no data on your phone....

Then had to tear a strip off my teenagers as one of them had used my data hotspot and that was the reason I had zero data in the first place.

pollymere · 23/08/2022 14:22

Actually some of these carparks have a grace period for you to find a space and exit too. You might be ok with 20mins over as it's probably not worth them pursuing it. Fingers crossed for you!

ihatethefuckingmuffin · 23/08/2022 15:07

One of my dd’s used their own parking app when visiting me instead of going through mine.

Her car is registered on mine as my carer and the LA only charge something like 40p an hour. Whereas general Joe bloggs is around £8 an hour. She was parked around me for 8 hours. over £60 for what would normally cost less than £4.

petmads · 23/08/2022 15:44

if she lied to you ask her for the difference its her fault

alloalloallo · 23/08/2022 16:32

I have mine and DH’s car registered on my pay and park app on my phone.

Took the dog to the her favourite beach for a walk, parked DH’s car, paid on the app as the parking machine was out of order as per bloody usual (which charges an extra 20p on top of the parking charges!). Phone signal is mega dodgy in that area so takes forever to do.

Had a lovely walk with doggo

A few days later, I get a parking fine - £60, reduced to £30 if I paid within 2 weeks.

Checked back on the app to see I’d selected my car by mistake. Council refused to cancel the parking fine.

My daughter's best friend is in a wheelchair they went to a pub with horrendous parking fees if you over stay ( right next to an underground station). Some AH broke a glass in the cark, she punctured her wheel on the way out, took hours for someone to come and fix it. Pub sent her a fine, she had photos, contested it and won.

JustDanceAddict · 24/08/2022 07:52

DH bought non-refundable plane tickets for the wrong month 🤦‍♀️ think it was the only time he’s ever apologised to me 😂

expat101 · 24/08/2022 08:45

Brigante9 · 22/08/2022 23:23

@expat101 was it the Le Creuset stuff? I thought it was too good to be true.

Yes. I just didn’t think. Later on after making the payment, I saw a similar post pop up in FB although different trader using the same selling spiel.

and there I was thinking I wasn’t gullible… but you should see the lengths they have gone to to assure me my parcel is on its way…

On a driving holiday in America some years ago, we parked our hire car in the hotel car park in Las Vegas, returned it to the hire car place at the airport on the last day, after a very stressful drive around Vegas trying to find petrol to return it full.

Some weeks later, received a late return charge from the car hire company, it was equivalent to around £200.

Neither of us read the itinerary properly, supposed to return the car when we ARRIVED in Vegas not as we left, after all who needs a car there😫

Idiots.

Shoopshoopshoopshoopshoop · 24/08/2022 17:14

I got a ticket recently through my own stupidity m, went to a park in my mum’s home town and she told me it was free for the first 4 hours, which it was. What I didn’t realise was that you still
had to put your number plate in the machine and get a ticket. So it cost me £20 even though we stayed less than 3 hours!

I got a letter from Tescos car park management saying I’d parked for 5 hours in the car park and sent photos of me entering and leaving.
I was livid and wrote to them and Tesco ; my partner went in at 8.40 and came out just after 9am; I went in at around 13:00 and left about 40 mins later! What happened to the other exit and entry photos, I asked… and why would I park for 5 hours when I live just over the road! And also my partner has a disabled badge so gains nothing from parking in Tesco for that long when he can park virtually where he needs to in town!
We had a reply from Tesco saying they asked the parking company to waive the fine!
How many others must that have happened to?

This happened to me at a leisure centre, I went to a baby class in the morning, left then realised later I’d left DC’s shoe there so went back in the afternoon. Luckily I just pointed out I’d been there twice in one day in my appeal and they accepted it.

Snailsaresweet · 24/08/2022 17:43

Booked flights and booked airport parking at the same time. However, I then moved flights to a week later (same days and times, but a week later) and overlooked the parking. Only realised this the day before when panic over airport delays meant I decided to amend parking booking so I could get there earlier, and I couldn't. Took me ages to realise why. And, of course, booking parking the day before you travel is MUCH more expensive.

MrsMigginsCat · 24/08/2022 19:49

I do a hobby each weekend and usually use the app to buy parking before I leave home. Had some change in my purse this week so thought I'd buy a ticket with cash. Only I forgot. Expecting a £100 ticket soon. Car is registered to DH so I'm also going to have to try and intercept the ticket when it arrives.

Neveranynamesleft · 26/08/2022 09:13

@myfaceismyown

It is not advisable to totally ignore a ticket from a private parking company ( they are NOT fines from a private co. )

They have 6 years to scam you with one of these and may take you through the small claims court where, unbeknown to you if you havn't contested it, you could be landed with a CCJ for non payment.

They are cowboys just after your money and will try every trick in the book.

As I have said before, all information, help and advise is available on the Parking tickets, fines and parking forum on moneysavingexpert.com pcn.

Look for the ' Newbies ' thread.

Dibbydoos · 27/08/2022 10:51

Get in touch, explain who was on the trip tgst MIL (if she's older etc it will help) needed to have food/drink which tipped you over the time limit. Apologise profusely and wait to see what happens.

hownowpurplecow · 27/08/2022 13:07

I thought I’d paid a parking ticket for £30, but I must not have clicked the final confirm step because I then got a letter saying it was now £90. I called them to query because I was sure I’d paid it, and the nice person I spoke to said they’d put a hold on the account so it didn’t get escalated further while I tried to sort it out. Evidently they didn’t do that, because I then got a letter saying it was now £130. Then got an email saying “sorry, we didn’t see the hold note on your account and now it’s been escalated that’s it and we can’t reduce the amount owed”. Reluctantly went to pay it, to find out DH has thrown the letter away so I can’t even pay it online now. Will have to phone them on Monday and feel very resentful of the whole scenario!

Pedallleur · 27/08/2022 14:06

Generally if you pay within 14 days you get a reduction. But paying a couple of £ to ensure you have time is better than a fine. Last one cost me 50 pounds.

I'm in the middle of appealing a fine due to the same issue with a morrisons car park. Appealing with the car park people but wonder if its worth speaking to store manager.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 29/08/2022 07:11

@WatchingTVagain yes absolutely...the store managers have the power to overturn the parking fines.
