Do you enjoy your job

UpsideDownDownsideUp · 19/08/2022 20:57

I was just thinking, i read many threads about people who don't enjoy their job for whatever reason.
But do many actually enjoy it

My old job, retail, i loved in the respect it was busy and got on brilliant with colleagues. Classed as friends not colleauges and still see now.
But hated how they expected more and more out of us for no extra money, never a thanks etc.
Then we had a new manager who what quite simply a sexist arse. And told him to stick is job up his arse. Id been there 16 years. Could have taken further but i was expecting dc 2 and just didnt want the stress.

I now work for /alongside dh in his business and loving it, new challenges. Work around the dcs. If one day nothing is done it doesn't matter as he will either do it or we do together when dcs are in bed.
Still lots to learn, its a whole new field for me.
I guess its the thought of the challenge of learning new things or knowing when a dc is ill i dont have to 'call in sick' and get bollocked by a manager (once i was told i was a shit colleague leaving them short, as my eldest was IN HOSPITAL!)
I feel relaxed knowing if dcs have a school play i can just go, and dh can (he used to be employed and would have to book it off) now we can juggle the diary to suit.

But i guess there's always gonna be the worry of, what if i get bored, wfh no social aspect of colleges etc.

Yes, driving round all day seeing different scenery, people and in the heat on days like today!

Whataplanker · 19/08/2022 22:12

Love it! Recently qualified as a teacher after being a TA for several years. Teaching Reception and loving every minute.

NotaCoolMum · 19/08/2022 22:15

I work in education with children with learning disabilities and I ADORE my job!!! Beautiful children, wonderful coworkers, perfect hours (term time only). I wouldn’t change it for the world 💖

NotaCoolMum · 19/08/2022 22:16

@Whataplanker congratulations on your qualification! X

Margo34 · 19/08/2022 22:16

Yes! Another teacher, 10 years in 😊 (I'm moving to YR next year @Whataplanker and very much looking forward to it)!

mountainsunsets · 19/08/2022 22:18

Yep!

I run my own dog walking and pet-sitting business. No two days are the same and even in the worst weather, I never ever dread going to work.

NuffSaidSam · 19/08/2022 22:19

I mostly love my job.

I'm a nanny.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 19/08/2022 22:20

Yes, all three of them

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 19/08/2022 22:22

I mostly enjoy mine - the right balance of routine and non routine, admin vs meetings.

GrandSlamFinalee · 19/08/2022 22:25

Love mine. It's creative, varied, challenging and every day and week I get to work with new people and visit new places. I'm in performing arts - there are negatives too, like being freelance and the mental and physical side of it. It's very tough to stay emotionally balanced and not give it too much importance at times.

Wouldn't change for the world - I get to travel a lot and have met so many friends through it. Always makes me smile when I walk on stage.

Ragwort · 19/08/2022 22:31

Yes, I love my job - charity retail - plenty of autonomy- no manager breathing down my neck. Love my volunteers and customers .... very occasionally there's a bit of stress due to lack of support frim Head Office but generally it's great.. I could retire next year but no immediate plans to do so.

Nowisthesummerofourdiscontent · 19/08/2022 23:09

I do. I’m in IT in a pioneering, interesting field. Working in a great team mainly remotely but we do get together regularly. Pays well.

Blahblahblah21 · 20/08/2022 00:32

Not anymore. School office - overworked, badly paid, unappreciated, talked down to by some teachers especially the younger ones (who think you must be less intelligent than them 🙄) and parents. Looking to leave.

mrsfollowill · 20/08/2022 00:42

No- done with mine. I'm still there and will continue to work to the best of my ability for the next 4 years and pray I'm made 'redundant' so I can claim my <Daily Mail speak alert> gold plated local government pension. Worn out and ground down and fucked off! By the way I loved it until March 2020 and lockdown! If we could go back in time then I would say yes I generally like/enjoy my job.

Me too. Same job and I absolutely love it. I realise just how much recently when we had a wonderful family 2 week holiday but I was still happy to come home to 'my' dogs and cats.

Previously I was a senior partner in a famous retail store and an accountant / financial controller for 15 years. Neither made me remotely happy.

Lisad1231981 · 20/08/2022 01:17

I love my job, I work in education but in a specialist area that I have managed to move into. I work with some amazing staff and great kids. Can't think of anything else I would do.

mountainsunsets · 20/08/2022 07:33

@freckles20 it really is the best job in the world isn't it!

I love it. Never dread going back after holidays or weekends. I love all the animals I care for like they're my own.

mjf981 · 20/08/2022 08:04

I don't love mine. I think its good for me to get out and about and talking to people..but endless dealings with the public are not for me. I'd prefer a quiet desk job where I only have interaction with other coworkers/introverts.

Spinasaurus · 20/08/2022 08:11

I think no matter what job you do, you will never enjoy 100% of it and you have to accept that the parts you do enjoy outweigh the parts you don't.

I enjoy mine. I WFH and they are super flexible with holidays and childcare. I really have hit the jackpot. The work itself is exactly what I like doing although the content can be upsetting and distressing sometimes. It's not for everyone. My colleagues aren't the best, but I don't work in an office with them so can keep them at arms length which suits me fine. I'd like to get paid more TBH, but it is enough to keep me ticking over.

alwaysmovingforwards · 20/08/2022 08:18

Yes.
Interesting, challenging and rewarding.

Just sat down to do a bit of Saturday morning work to get ahead of next week without all the inbox / phone call disruptions.

TravellingSpoon · 20/08/2022 08:24

I really like mine, in a day service for adults with a variety of needs. Its quite unique withing care because we don't work evenings or weekends. The pay isn't grwat but I do have a LG pension which offsets it a bit.

I have a second bank job on MH wards but at the moment I am not picking up any shifts because it was making me so sad and anxious recently. We are just serving without the money so I am considering giving that up.

DiscoStusMoonboots · 20/08/2022 08:35

Another primary teacher here. I love the teaching part, enjoy the leadership part - despise the dressing down by senior leaders part! But hey, I won't be at my school forever.

Same here blahblah. I’m dreading going back next week!

Musmerian · 20/08/2022 08:52

Yes. Secondary school English teacher still going strong after 29 years. Great school, brilliant department- we have lots of fun both in work and socially. It’s v hard work but with proper work not pointless targets and paperwork. Kids are always challenging and rewarding. Just had v good A level results which is always really satisfying.

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 20/08/2022 09:03

Another teacher here. Changed careers three years ago after twenty-odd years of corporate life.

Teaching reception kids in a pretty deprived part of London and absolutely loving it.

And I'm sorry you get treated disrespectfully @Blahblahblah21
