Do you enjoy your job

I was just thinking, i read many threads about people who don't enjoy their job for whatever reason.
But do many actually enjoy it

My old job, retail, i loved in the respect it was busy and got on brilliant with colleagues. Classed as friends not colleauges and still see now.
But hated how they expected more and more out of us for no extra money, never a thanks etc.
Then we had a new manager who what quite simply a sexist arse. And told him to stick is job up his arse. Id been there 16 years. Could have taken further but i was expecting dc 2 and just didnt want the stress.

I now work for /alongside dh in his business and loving it, new challenges. Work around the dcs. If one day nothing is done it doesn't matter as he will either do it or we do together when dcs are in bed.
Still lots to learn, its a whole new field for me.
I guess its the thought of the challenge of learning new things or knowing when a dc is ill i dont have to 'call in sick' and get bollocked by a manager (once i was told i was a shit colleague leaving them short, as my eldest was IN HOSPITAL!)
I feel relaxed knowing if dcs have a school play i can just go, and dh can (he used to be employed and would have to book it off) now we can juggle the diary to suit.

But i guess there's always gonna be the worry of, what if i get bored, wfh no social aspect of colleges etc.

I'm not going to detail what my job is. I enjoy it, especially because I am part of a team that actually is a team, where people support each other, where there is not the seemingly usual people with their own agendas and backbiting. Where boundaries between work and the rest of life are respected.

Work colleagues who are not friends but whom I respect and am glad to work alongside.

I'm in video game development. So yes, immensely.

No. I'm a teacher and the only positive thing about it for me is the funny things kids say, my colleagues and the holidays. I have my own young children and honestly done have enough to give to my class. I mostly push through in order to do the job of course, but my heart absolutely isn't in it. I teach in a school that has very little respect for us teachers and even less for the students. Its a private school, not in the UK, and is basically a business. I'm tied to it for various reasons but have no mojo. People assume I must love inspiring a love of learning and helping young minds develop. Unfortunately I don't. I do my best for the kids though as uts not my fault I'm fed up, but if we won the lottery I would be out of there.

On the good days I adore my job! But during the hard times I'd go as far to say it ruins my life. Currently going through a fairly positive spell though.

I'm a midwifeSmile

If you had asked me this 8month ago I would have said I didn’t love my job , I work in early years and was overworked, underpaid and felt unappreciated however I’ve changed to a new nursery , and feel much more relaxed, I’m less stressed, less tired and working shorter days. I’m normally in bed on a Friday by 11pm at the latest as I was knackered and was still awake at 3am chatting with dh.

I have moved from a private nursery to a council nursery and the difference is night and day.

Enjoy my job now in an advisory role. I have control over my own diary & can wfh as much as I want. Hated my previous job in teaching with a passion!

TidyDancer · 20/08/2022 10:59

No I don't love mine. There are some bits of it that I like and I have a couple of colleagues who are genuinely lovely people. But there are also some proper cunts in my office and a lot of the time what is expected of me day to day is far beyond that which is achievable in the hours I work.

I will be leaving as soon as the opportunity comes up.

Forgot i posted this.
So refreshing to hear positive stories.

I miss my colleagues but right now this just works for me /us. And its a challenge. Although at this silly hour is when I'm sat thinking ' what if its hard/i cant do it etc' because i haven't used my brain for learning in so long.
But the silly thing is it doesn't matter, dh is my' boss ' so if i cant do certain things he will.

Yeah - I'm a cover teacher in a secondary school and honestly it's hilarious. There are difficult times sure, like any job, but mostly I do enjoy it!

Lightning020 · 21/08/2022 06:32

Sick and tired of working quite frankly.

squishee · 21/08/2022 07:40

No and am working out my notice

LunaTheCat · 21/08/2022 07:47

GP and (mostly) love it.
Huge privilege to be trusted, and to hear what I hear.
I am there at the beginning of life and at the end.
I know what matters and what doesn’t -what matters is the people in your life.
Once you can have shelter and food then huge material belongings matter diddly squat.
I love watching people grow, change and realise their own power.
Cons are you know what people need but but are very restricted in what you can provide.

HumptyDumpty2022 · 21/08/2022 07:48

Yes mostly enjoy it. I work mostly alone in a fast paced busy role but if I need interaction I can visit sites and see people. My boss can be an arse, he’s a narcissistic control freak but he pays me well and I enjoy the conditions.
Ive spent years working with others and like working alone.
This will be unpopular but as a childfree full timer I’ve spent too long covering for colleagues with children who have to dash off for this drama or that, there’s always good reason but it’s not great for those left behind to pick up the work pieces.
