Please don't mock me !

Is there such thing as a sea life rescue in London

What do I do now?

Ah OP, can you give it back? If this isn't a windup, there is no good outcome, even if you want to spend a day ferrying the crab to sea!

done

Get yourself down to the STI clinic if a friend gave you crabs.

QueSyrahSyrah · 19/08/2022 08:09

I just don’t believe that someone who doesn’t know you well enough to know you’re a vegan decided that a live sea creature was a reasonable gift.

This. What a bizarre state of affairs.

I'm a big giver of gifts when we're visiting or staying with someone; but even with close friends that I know for sure love seafood, a live crab would be completely inappropriate (although thinking about it I have taken cooked lobster to their house before).

Not sure what kind, just a big grey one

Then you cannot find the right shoreline for it, so to avoid cruelty, euthanasia is the best option and asap

You were right to hand it back to someone who will do that.

they didn't know.

In some cultures guests giving someone grocery or food is a gesture of kindness.

Well yes, but isn't cake/biscuits/wine the norm? I have so many questions! Did the just bring the crab or something else as well? We're they staying for food and - if so - did they not want whatever vegan food you would provide for them (not knocking that btw, I'd never go to a vegetarian/ vegan household and expect meat) so brought their own dinner?

Glad they've taken it back though.

He said putting it in the freezer and making a puncture on his head was the most painless way of doing it

I suppose if it's live it's probably^^ a native species of crab, but in general it's not a good idea to release organisms into the wild if you don't know what they are and what you're doing.

So many typos!

Don't be so stupid, OP.

daisyjgrey · 19/08/2022 08:14

Who's out there dishing out live crabs to acquaintances at 8am on a Friday? In this economy?!

Queenoftheashes · 19/08/2022 08:31

OP do you know who The Deep is? I think you’d have a lot to discuss.

Queenoftheashes · 19/08/2022 08:32
Oh Timothy

Do you also have a beauty fridge ?

😂😂😂

Maireas · 19/08/2022 08:39

Well, if you are a vegan there is no way that your friend doesn't know.
Secondly - how do you know that the crab is a he?
Don't go round misgendering sea life.

They have a special crab fridge.

Shade17 · 19/08/2022 09:16

The most respectful thing you could do with it now is make something delicious. Far better than the waste it will inevitably become otherwise.

DaisyDreaming · 19/08/2022 09:19

Look up Leon the lobster on YouTube! I feel a bit sad for Leon as his tank is small and not stimulated but he was nurses back to health and he is well loved

Male crabs have a pointy triangle shape on their underside and female crabs have more of a rounder semi-circle like triangle shape underneath where they keep their eggs. They are easy to sex so should be no misgendering.

Indeed. Let's be on point with the crab gender.

This is why we need a Like Button. Come on MN...

DistaffSide · 19/08/2022 10:21

Do not release anything to the environment unless you know what you're doing. Buddhists did a release of non native crabs in Brighton they'd got from a market. It's completely daft.

One of the big threats to ecosystems is the spread of new species and any pests and diseases they're carrying. It can be worse in the sea as there are no barriers to connecting different areas and larvae can be spread by water currents for hundreds of km if not more.

BMW6 · 19/08/2022 10:25

Who the fuck gives someone a live crab as a gift??????

Presumably it would even have to be a new species. Just the same species from a totally different bit of coast might have different parasites and diseases to the crabs where you’ve decided to release them.

Yes, and to a vegan! 🙄

GoodVibesHere · 19/08/2022 13:03

I suppose you should be glad it wasn't a pig or a sheep.

A crab though, what a bizarre thing to give someone. I guess it makes a change from flowers or chocolates.
