I didn't buy the crab. I got it as in someone got it from me

Wickywickyyow · 19/08/2022 07:54

What do you mean someone got it from you? So it's gone?

Lemonblossom · 19/08/2022 07:54

So they either stole it or paid for it?

Do the people who keep responding as if a sea life rescue is a reasonable idea in principle (even if geographically difficult) have any idea what sea life rescues do?

They are not going to even entertain a crab bough from a fishmonger. Not at all.

rescues aren’t there so vegans can make a point about the seafood industry.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 19/08/2022 07:55

Best thread ever!

Dirtychai · 19/08/2022 07:56

What is the relevance of this?

I need to know, in case I’m veganing wrong 😂

riotlady · 19/08/2022 07:56

Why would someone buy a vegan a crab??

toomuchlaundry · 19/08/2022 07:57

Why did they get you a crab? Did you ask them to?

Ok you wrote that twice so it's very hard to follow what you're trying to say.

Why did they get it (buy it?) for you and why did you accept?

Maybe your posts could be a bit longer with a bit more information.

wetotter · 19/08/2022 07:58

What type of crab is it?

Did the misguided person who thought this was a good idea (for a joke) have any idea of where it originated from?

You need to go to the right bit of coast today and get it back on brine. Anything else is cruel.

To save it from being bought by someone else Grin

OP was it the last crab?

they didn't know.

In some cultures guests giving someone grocery or food is a gesture of kindness.

Here’s what you do with it OP

girlmom21 · 19/08/2022 08:00

Can you give it to somebody who eats crab?

Porcupineintherough · 19/08/2022 08:00

2 choices:

  1. Keep it cool and damp (don't put it in freshwater) and take it to a rocky coast now and release it.
  2. Give it a humane death
Albgo · 19/08/2022 08:00

What sort of crab is it?

Ignore the posters saying to kill it or eat it.

Buying a live crab is a weird choice. It’s not like taking a pack of biscuits when someone’s invited you over for coffee.

toomuchlaundry · 19/08/2022 08:01

How do they not know you are a vegan?

They took it back now. Was just hoping there was an alternative.
Didn't want them to boil it alive *as loads of people do but they promised me to give it a more humane death

*I know I sound super daft but it just made me sad lol

Not sure what kind, just a big grey one

buckeejit · 19/08/2022 08:02

Ah OP, can you give it back? If this isn't a windup, there is no good outcome, even if you want to spend a day ferrying the crab to sea!

BarbaraofSeville · 19/08/2022 08:03

MayThe4th · 19/08/2022 07:48

Oh dear.

So, you’ve bought a live crab from an industry whose sale of live crabs you disapprove of. You don’t know what to do with it, so you’ve likely condemned it to a far less humane death than if it had simply been thrown into a cooking pot.

This. Isn't the crab going to start getting hungry soon? I don't know anything about what it needs to eat and how often btw.

I would say that the kindest thing would be to put it back in the sea, but if it goes back into an unfamiliar environment, that might not be good for it either.

Lets hope 'live seafood rescued by vegans' isn't some bizarre new craze.

SudocremOnEverything · 19/08/2022 08:05

Even if you don’t know someone’s a vegan… you wouldn’t buy anyone a live crab unless you were pretty certain that killing live seafood was a thing they were both competent and willing to do. You wouldn’t buy one on the off chance they might be up for that.

I wouldn’t buy live seafood (even though I eat it) because I’m not willing to kill it myself. I’m not confident I have the skills to do it in a way that isn’t dreadful, any more than I would be be confident about killing a chicken or a rabbit. Or slaughtering a pig.

I just don’t believe that someone who doesn’t know you well enough to know you’re a vegan decided that a live sea creature was a reasonable gift.
