What's your 'comfort telly'?

So for me it's Gavin and Stacey and Friends. Whenever I need some comfort, they go on.

What's yours and what do you think it is that makes something 'comfort telly'?

Every so often DH and I will watch The Sopranos or Mad Men from start to finish, like two episodes a night after dinner. We're saving the last series of Better Call Saul, will watch Breaking Bad then BCS right through. It sounds tedious, idk why I love rewatching. I'm a rereader too. So comforting.

Big bang theory or friends. I've watched them all so many times but that means it's familiar and that's what I like when I'm feeling down or homesick.

For me it’s vintage Eastenders. 2 episodes back to back at 1pm every weekday an ‘Drama’ channel. Phil has just been shot, Mel & Steve just married and hot Dan Sullivan is lurking and they’re gearing up to the episode where Kat tells Zoe she is her mum. Great stuff

PlanetNormal · 18/08/2022 19:49

I have loved watching the re-runs of Top of the Pops on Friday nights on BBC4 over the years. They started with 1977 (I think) and they are now on 1993, which is getting to the end of ‘my era’, as I was a proper 80s kid. I’m now looking forward to reruns of the Britpop era

The 1995 BBC TV Pride and Prejudice.

Yes, good choice.

Brideshead Revisited (the Jeremy Irons TV series, not the awful film)
I Claudius
Sherlock Holmes (with Jeremy Brett)
Stephen Fry on QI (nothing against Toksvig, but she's not Stephen Fry)
Jeeves and Wooster (Stephen Fry again)

InFiveMins · 18/08/2022 19:54

The Royle Family
Miranda
The Catherine Tate Show
My Family
Midsomer Murders
Gavin and Stacey
Keeping Up Appearances

To be "comfort telly" to me they need to be warm, cosy and lighthearted with nothing too serious or demanding going on.
