Heated Throws - pls help me choose!

screamernumber2 · 18/08/2022 10:53

Having priced everything up I want to stop using the electric heater in the day when there is just one or two of us home, and use heated throws.

But there are so many and the prices are so different!

Any tip on what I look for and what to avoid? CNt afford to make a mistake as need to buy 4!!!

This thread is quite old now, but if you’ve landed here looking for advice on keeping warm this winter, we’ve recently updated our best heated throw page with loads of toasty, cost-effective blankets Mumsnetters love. We hope it’s helpful.

Dreamland faux fur heated throw (comes in a couple of colours). Had mine 3 or 4 years and it’s one of the best things I’ve spent my money on. Two family members and two friends subsequently got one and they all love them too.

QueenOfCakeandCoffee · 29/08/2022 15:33

Which one did you go for @screamernumber2 ?

AchillesLastStand · 29/08/2022 15:39

I have this one and I love it. Had it over 3 years, been washed and still working perfectly.

We have same one as Achillies and it is heavenly.

GoodVibesHere · 29/08/2022 17:46

I find the faux fur ones too heavy and cumbersome, I like to wrap a throw around me so I have the Dreamland one around £50 so slightly cheaper and not so heavy

cataline · 29/08/2022 17:51

I have the dreamland faux fur one too and it's amazing.

We've had cheaper ones in the past and they're nowhere near as good.

You get a great warranty though Lakeland too.

The whole family has one each - actually, DH has the non-furry one as he's not a fan of the husky floof Grin

Nat6999 · 29/08/2022 18:09

I have the Aldi one, ds has the Dreamland one, the Aldi one has better range of temperature, timer & is better quality.

LesLavandes · 29/08/2022 18:16

Anyone got the heated jacket?

bloomflower · 29/08/2022 18:22

the good thing about the Lakeland ones is that you can return within three years if they fail (and elec blankets often do within a couple of years). But they are a lot more expensive! Probably double the price of the non-Lakeland ones which are pretty much very similar!!

bloomflower · 29/08/2022 18:24

PS I had a lakeland dreamland one that failed this year (within the three year period) which I returned no issues.

I rate the fake fur dreamland ones, but they are not that big. I would go with a larger slightly more expensive one probably. Be warned the ones with the "wooly" sherpa style underside (which I have also owned) go a bit manky on that side eventually (flattened wooly fabric that looks a bit rubbish / is not so soft any more). You may be able to brush them tho not sure.

@AchillesLastStand wouod you say the Dreamland Faux throw would be big enough for 2 people to snuggle up? Thanks 😊

Yes it would at a push. My DS is 8 and we share it on the sofa. You’d certainly get it across your laps.

MrsGamgee · 29/08/2022 22:11

@AchillesLastStand thank you! I have ordered one from Debenhams and gotten some cashback from Top Cashback so it doesn't feel quite as extravagant! We do have some lovely furry throws for over our shoulders but they won't be as lovely and warm come winter if it's anything like last year so I'm excited to get it and try it out 😁

Barkingdog2022 · 29/08/2022 22:17

I’m also looking to buy one, are they easy to wash? I assume it detaches firm whatever heats it?

That’s great. Enjoy😀

Yes you just unplug the cord from blanket and it can be machine washed. I line dry mine and never had any issues. Mine is still nice and fluffy!

Startuplife · 29/08/2022 22:21

Do the Dreamland ones lose their fluff? Years ago I had a black cheapie one and it left black fluff absolutely everywhere!

No mine hasn’t at all.

Furrybutts · 29/08/2022 22:38

I have one from Costco that I bought 2 years ago. It was only around £35, is lovely and warm and washes really well.
Only thing that could be better is the length. Either my feet are uncovered or my shoulders are.

My friend has the £80 one from Costco and he's over 6' and says it's plenty big enough.

LadyHelenaJustina · 30/08/2022 00:01

I have the grey Dreamland Relaxwell. It has been great.

Purrfecto · 30/08/2022 00:10

I recently bought the dreamland velvety throw. Was tempted by the husky one but I really wanted one to wrap around me and to put over my legs while working at the computer and thought it wouldn’t work so well. If it’s just for the sofa I’d go for the husky.

Fraaahnces · 30/08/2022 01:52

Just make sure you get one that is washable if you have kids. They have special connectors and can go in the washing machine, but must not go in the dryer. I have one that is fleece on one side and Sherpa on the other. Because I’m a wuss, I also have one with a 12v plug for long car trips or camping.

QueenOfCakeandCoffee · 30/08/2022 09:23

@Fraaahnces could you link/point me in the right direction for the car one please!?

screamernumber2 · 30/08/2022 19:14

I thought this thread had died with my post - only noticing replies now, thank you!

But shocked at price of Dreamland. Didn't plan to spend over £400 on heated throws for us, thought maybe £30/40 but reading your responses seems I need to increase the budget. May be I could just buy 2 and wait to know how we use then?

OP posts:
Furries · 30/08/2022 19:35

Must admit, I had skimmed over the fact that you need 4!

If you can, I’d definitely get 2 and see how you go. When I got mine and raved about it, my small family unit all agreed no Christmas presents that year - so we all purchased our throws as a “group” present. Any chance you could do similar?
