screamernumber2 · 18/08/2022 10:53

Having priced everything up I want to stop using the electric heater in the day when there is just one or two of us home, and use heated throws.

But there are so many and the prices are so different!

Any tip on what I look for and what to avoid? CNt afford to make a mistake as need to buy 4!!!

This thread is quite old now, but if you’ve landed here looking for advice on keeping warm this winter, we’ve recently updated our best heated throw page with loads of toasty, cost-effective blankets Mumsnetters love. We hope it’s helpful.

I thought this thread had died with my post - only noticing replies now, thank you!

But shocked at price of Dreamland. Didn't plan to spend over £400 on heated throws for us, thought maybe £30/40 but reading your responses seems I need to increase the budget. May be I could just buy 2 and wait to know how we use then?

We've had the Aldi and Amazon ones over the years and they've always stopped working within 2 years.

We've not got the dreamland husky ones and I'm reassured that they have the 3 year Lakeland guarantee!

Thelnebriati · 30/08/2022 22:52

I had the Dreamland velvety one but every time I used it I'd be properly sound asleep within minutes. So now I sit sandwiched between 2 duvets, with a hot water bottle.

@screamernumber2 I live in Australia, so you’d pay a fortune to get it delivered there. However, there are heaps on Amazon and Ali Express. Just ignore the delivery fee on this, it’s postage to Aus, but via Amazon UK

I think it’s in Aussie dollars too.

Aldi would give a 2 or 3 year guarantee though wouldn’t they?

cataline · 06/09/2022 20:38

@Callipygion
They do but they've never had them in stock when we've needed to return them.
So you get your money back but not a replacement.

@GoodVibesHere do you have the Relaxwell heated throw? It’s £59.99. I debated about that one and instead have just bought a £60 one from Amazon. It’s states that you can’t bend it or crumple it whilst it on and must be kept straight, assuming due to the elements inside. I was hoping to wrap it around me/my shoulders but it seems like you can’t. Can you wrap yours around or does it advise not to?

AuntieMarys · 07/09/2022 13:36

Dreamland faux fur. Had JL vouchers from using credit card so bought that.

I'm tempted to go for a heated blanket hoodie

AnnieSnap · 10/09/2022 21:46

I have two of these. The first one I bought a few years ago. It’s fabulous. Given the cost of energy this winter, I just bought another (one for upstairs, one for down).

You can wrap them around you. The problem would come if the wires were in a bent position or had a heavy weight on top (like being used as an under-blanket) whilst switched on. My cats lie on top of mine on my lap all the time. I’ve had it 3/4 years and never had a problem.

Doggydarling · 10/09/2022 22:20

I've two Aldi heated blankets, they're a few years old now and both work and look like new. I like that they've a wide range of temperatures and a shut off timer. It also has closing studs on the long side similar to a sleeping bag so I can close the bottom and have a lovely warm pocket for my cold feet. Two years ago we were really strapped financially so I didn't put the heating on or light the fire during the day when I was home alone, the aldi blanket made it bearable.

ludders01 · 10/09/2022 22:23

@LadyHelenaJustina thank you for this, it’s very useful and good to know. Might just have to invest in this one!

silentpool · 10/09/2022 22:26

I've never spent a lot on mine - mine both came from Kmart in Australia and are going strong 2 years in. So worth it, I rarely put the heater on which has saved me a fortune!

LadyHelenaJustina · 10/09/2022 22:31

I’ve had mine for two years, and it’s still working perfectly. I generally have it over my lap when I’m working, then transfer it to my bed at night.

Citizenzero · 11/09/2022 10:23

I think this is the same Lakeland throw but cheaper if helps others

I recently bought 2 heated fleece throws by cozytek on eBay for £35 with 2 year warranty time will tell if it was a good purchase

Cheddarcheeseandsodabread · 12/09/2022 13:27

QVC sells heated throws that are washable. You also have the advantage of being able to try them at home for 60 days and still return them for a refund if not satisfied.

If you have not bought from them before there is a £5 discount on your first purchase.
