Totally agree. Really good and interesting. Also cried!

lljkk · 14/08/2022 20:08

I thought it was 99% great, too. Also recommend it.
1% Part I don't like is how pretty the main actor was.
The actual guy the Lion story happened to is ordinary-looking.
I heard him interviewed long before film was thought of, he was kind of astounded at his own story, and all the interest in it.
I would have preferred an ordinary-looking not stunningly beautiful chap to play his part.

Real looks would have made his story all the more poignant to me.
NK & his difficult brother were good to watch, too, of course.

I saw it at the cinema and I cried solidly through the last 30 minutes. When the lights came up at the end I became self conscious about what a mess I was. I really needn’t have been. The place was awash with runny mascara and tissues. It’s a really beautiful, beautiful film.

SiliconHeaven · 14/08/2022 20:19

I watched it on a cruise ship and afterwards I was in the lift with half a dozen other women and we were all sobbing.

Carpediem15 · 14/08/2022 20:32

The book it was based on is called A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley which I read when it was first published.
Was quite happy to see Dev Patel playing Saroo as he is an amazing actor and very pleasant to watch.

NannyR · 14/08/2022 20:36

This is such a great film, the scenes at the end where the real life mothers meet always make me really emotional.

PutYourBackIntoit · 14/08/2022 20:40

Totally agree, loved this film

vincettenoir · 14/08/2022 20:43

Yes I fancy Dev Patel in this role a lot, although I haven’t fancied him in the other films I’ve seen him in.

Yankydoodledandy · 14/08/2022 20:47

I hadnt even thought about how beautiful Dev P was, I was just taken in by the fabulous acting of all characters.

The end real life scenes were just....just....so touching

Fabulous film.

PestoPasghetti · 14/08/2022 20:52

Yes, a brilliant film. Terribly sad though. The pain his poor mother must have experienced every day.

HRTQueen · 14/08/2022 20:54

It’s a brilliant and beautiful film. I saw it at the cinema and thought at the time it was one of the best films I had seen in years

it’s a film I want to watch again but it’s too emotional so I haven’t yet, maybe one day

Googlecanthelpme · 14/08/2022 21:01

Wonderful film, fantastic acting.

Heartbreaking story and of course a heartbreaking insight into the plight of many children in India.

Id seen it a couple of years ago on a flight, recently rewatched it with DH, who was traumatised by it. So much so that he set up a monthly donation to the charity in India who work with children and young people.

Sandcastlesinthesky · 14/08/2022 21:03

saw this a couple of years ago. Cried buckets. Great film.

ButtonintheBox · 14/08/2022 21:04

Where can I watch it?

GCAcademic · 14/08/2022 21:05

It’s a film I want to watch again but it’s too emotional so I haven’t yet, maybe one day

That’s exactly how I feel about it.

Where can I watch it?

A quick Google shows it's on Netflix and you can pay to watch it on Amazon.

It's a wonderful film but my God I was a mess. The final scenes are so beautiful. What an amazing painful hopeful true tale it is.

YahBooFucks · 14/08/2022 21:24

Agree with everything that has been said. It's utterly heartbreaking and I was an inconsolable mess after watching it. I even spent most of the next day crying every time I thought about it! Haven't braved a second watch yet...

SteveHarringtonsChestHair · 14/08/2022 21:28

It’s amazing isn’t it. I’ve seen it at the cinema once and at home twice. It’s beautiful. Those poor kids. I’ve visited India and was shielded from a lot of the poverty but saw glimpses of this life while out and about. Caroline Quentin made a series about India which was wonderful too, worth a watch.

Weaselstoatferret · 14/08/2022 21:28

Totally agree! I watched it on a flight while I was pregnant which was not a good idea. The hormones and emotional scenes were too much and I ended up a blubbering wreck.

I have been to India numerous times and am just in awe of the country but life is so tough for some people and this film just brought it all to life.

butterfly990 · 14/08/2022 21:31

I sat and sobbed on the plane. Fortunately it was dark. It was such a beautiful and moving film.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 14/08/2022 21:44

I’ve told this on here before but I saw it at the cinema on maternity leave (I did a lot of solo trips to the cinema with baby in the sling). DS was about 2 weeks old and I was in that funny post partum emotionally charged stage. I cried from the beginning, so hard that another customer reported me and an usher came in and shushed me Blush

vincettenoir · 14/08/2022 21:55

@LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet i can’t believe someone complained! What a dick!

mac1974 · 14/08/2022 21:57

Oh. dh is out on sat night and I've been meaning to watch this. Think I'll get some wine and hunker down with tissues

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 14/08/2022 21:57

@vincettenoir in fairness I was sobbing (I couldn’t help it, I’d just had a little boy and it was a film about a boy going missing, I didn’t realise when booking it) so probably making noise and being a bit disruptive. On the upside DS slept in the sling the whole way through!
