Individual milk and condiments

Does anyone know where you can buy individual milk cartons, tiny jars of jam/Nutella and those little paper tubes of coffee/hot chocolate? Also perhaps a few of tomato sauce, vinegar etc.

My oldest is going travelling for a few months and I'm trying to get some useful things together but have to think about weight and no fridge!

I've looked on line but it's all for catering and in batches of 50. I suppose I could use the remaining 40 jams up but I wouldn't want the UHT milks!

What sort of milk cartons are you after if you don’t want uht?

BrieAndChilli · 14/08/2022 19:49

I bought a little net of tiny milks from the uht sections in Tesco for DS DofE expedition.

B&M

Amazon sells all this stuff, although unless he’s travelling with a full retinue of porters, is he actually going to want to carry mini Nutella and ketchup sachets on his travels?

TheWayTheLightFalls · 14/08/2022 19:52

For a few months? That's a lot of tiny cartons. I'd suggest s/he makes like a good student and just nicks them from McDonald's Grin. Basics jam is 35p a jar at Sainsbury's, even if they chuck some away I'm not sure you'll find cheaper.

@Itsnotthesameasitwas I do want UHT portions, but I don't want millions. I'm not going to use them up (at home) because UHT is grim, so just needed for travelling.

@RosiePosie80 he'll be in his van. It's already full of outdoor sports type equipment and has been on a weighbridge so, for reasons of weight, space and not having a fridge, I'm looking for specific items.

@Frith2013 Ah, I was imagining him backpacking 😂

Frith2013 · 14/08/2022 19:57

@Itsnotthesameasitwas liking the sauces, thank you.

You want Single Portions - they sell all sorts of things

sunsetsandsandybeaches · 14/08/2022 20:05

Wouldn't it make more sense to just buy a jar of coffee and a bottle of ketchup and vinegar etc? Why do they need to be in individual packs?

Frith2013 · 14/08/2022 20:07

@sunsetsandsandybeaches because he hasn't got a fridge (for the ketchup, once opened) and is incredibly short of room and has already weighed the van so can't put much more in it.

Try Out of Eden, they are a hotel suppliers but they sell to regular people.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 14/08/2022 20:14

The bit of tesco where the ambient oat milks are also has individual uht milks.

Or maybe powdered milk might be a better shout? Would be much cheaper, and a spoonful in coffee is no worse than uht.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 14/08/2022 20:15

In his position I would learn to drink tea and coffee without milk. That's what I did in the thé Great Sugar Shortage in the 70/80s

Thissucksmonkeynuts · 14/08/2022 20:17

Ketchup doesn't realness to go in the fridge does it? The whole idea of these vinegary salty things is they preserve themselves.

Ponderingwindow · 14/08/2022 20:20

We do this sometimes when we travel. I’ve got picky eaters with ASD to contend with so having some staples that will get them fed is critical. It’s easier with refrigeration, but we don’t always have that.

I have just been doing the bulk buys online and then we use up the rest at home. We have never needed milk though so that was never an issue. It’s always things like jam and mayonnaise.

haveiever · 14/08/2022 20:20

nothing in your OP needs stored in a fridge apart from milk. I’m sure he can work out how to buy a jar of coffee and a bottle of vinegar if he’s managing to take himself travelling

emma1103 · 14/08/2022 20:20

I've NEVER put ketchup in the fridge. Tastes so much better room temperature. It's never made me sick either!

DeanStockwelll · 14/08/2022 20:22

I can't post a link at the moment but "sachets and more' is what you want, not only do they do sachets and milks and stuff but they do also do small travel things as well like individual packs of biscuits small sachets of shampoo etc

Thissucksmonkeynuts · 14/08/2022 20:23

And also, if he's old enough own a van, surely he will be able to keep himself fed and watered?

Only on MN... your offspring is over 18 therefore you must never do anything to help them ever again!

So what if he is old enough to own a van? You can still do nice things for people who are of van owning age!
