There's a fucking mouse in my bathroom

Just that really, got up to go to the toilet, as I put the light on saw something dart across thought that's a mouse or a massive fuck off spider, both as bad as each other to be fair from my point of view. Then it shot back out from behind the toilet, completely shit myself whilst standing on the landing holding into the door handle. Have left it in there with the door shut for now.

Two questions, how's it got up here ( the fact it's got upstairs is really freaking me out, I know they have legs before anyone points that out) does this mean we've got a mouse family living here and how do I get it out.

Cats don’t help. When we get a mouse/vole/squirrel/weasel/shrew in the house it’s generally because the cats have brought it in to play (live) or as a gift (dead)

last weeks offering was a live kestrel. That was fun flying around the kitchen launching itself against the windows.

Depends on the cat.

Some will kill them.

I've been given a live small bird and a live mouse as a present from a cat. Worse it wasn't my damn cat, but just a cat I gave attention to.

If you have a fucking mouse, you are going to have lots more soon.

😂

Nah, she'd need two

My cat brings in mice and she always takes them into the bathroom. They hide behind the sink pedestal so I put a large glass or jar one side and poke something from the other side and the mouse invariably runs into the jar. You need to be quick with the lid though as they will try and jump out.

mycatisannoying · 14/08/2022 13:32

Are they not as good as dead anyway, when you take them to an unfamiliar place away from their nest?

MidnightMeltdown · 14/08/2022 13:44

I found a giant spider in bathroom last night. TBH I would much rather have found a mouse!

Squiff70 · 14/08/2022 13:54

I had a mouse living in my airing cupboard in the bathroom! I used to hear it in there scuttling about and gnawing wood in the middle of the night. I did put some mouse poison down (sorry, I know it's absolutely TERRIBLE stuff but I had a rat infestation in my previous property and never got over it). I didn't want an army of baby mice so something had to happen and I'd hate the heart-stopping sound of a spring-loaded trap. Since then, no signs of any rodent activity at all. I don't know whether it ever ate any of the bait but I never heard it again!

bigbeautifulmonster · 14/08/2022 13:56

Just stamp on it 😋

Rats eat mice, so I always reassure myself that I wouldn’t see mice if there were rats about.

Well I never knew that .
I am reassured
I get the odd mouse but the cat might get them from the garden Trouble is , she brings them to be still living .

Both would have resulted in the same reaction, I'm terrified of both, we do get some big spiders in here in the Autumn, I'm still traumatised by making DDs bed last year and there was one casually sitting under her pillow 😔

I've rescued a few live mice from the cat. I just use a small box and a tea towel. The mouse will usually run into the box because it's looking for somewhere to hide. Then I just transport it outside.

I too scared of spiders though!

Crazymadchickenlady · 14/08/2022 14:53

The big cheese mousetraps from Amazon work really well. I load them with peanut butter

wellhelloitsme · 14/08/2022 10:24

@dilligaf78

We feed the rats in the garden anyway

You don't actually do this, do you?

I most certainly do! Any waste food such as stale bread, biscuits etc, eggs etc they love it!

45hopperbunny · 14/08/2022 16:42

Funny you posted this.

I saw a mouse for the first time on Wednesday. I packed up and took both my kids straight to my mum’s. Came back two days later as ex DP had laid down traps yet there were no sign of any mice.

I have the glue taps, snap traps and the traps that electrocute them. I couldn’t care less about humane traps and all that bullshit, I just need it/them out the house! I have pest control coming in the week so hopefully they can do better traps and recommend where to stuff the wire wool so they don’t come back.

Sorry this is no help but my thoughts are seriously with you!

Crazymadchickenlady · 14/08/2022 17:35

Bait the traps with peanut butter

I've always got some rodent in the house. My cats bring them in and just leave them. If I see one I just pick it up and put it outside. Not by the tail or they will bite. Or get a humane mouse trap and check it daily. I use those and they are great then I release the mouse outside.

UncomfortableSilence · 14/08/2022 19:48

So many people living seemingly happily with the mice Confused

Traps are set, I'm shutting myself in the bedroom I refuse to believe they get on the bed and we shall see in the morning if there's a whole little family living here.

It’s now more like I’m the mice’s lodger, and I pay rent in peanut butter.

DD just asked me if mice can climb up the outside wall of the house and in the bedroom window ( please tell her no as she will sleep with all her windows shut from now on 😁 )

Purpleplaydohperson · 14/08/2022 20:21

We get them every autumn. Snap traps with peanut butter do the job - at least they are enjoying a yummy snack at the point of their demise and are not stressed by being put in an unfamiliar habitat or worse, glue or poison. We keep setting them for a week after the last mouse’s visit.

MostlyWearingToast · 14/08/2022 20:24

Our cats have always been hunters and we must have had dozens and dozens of live mice released in the house over the years. Mostly we catch them with wellington boots and let them go in the fields over the road.

But one got away into DS's bedroom. We only knew it was there when I changed his sheets and found under his pillow a stash of half chewed seeds and pasta shapes it had foraged from the lovely artwork he'd brought home from nursery the week before.

I really really didn't need to read that 😟
