Are the seagulls being more noisy than usual by you?

It's the third morning in a row that I've been woken up at 5am by the sodding wailing bastards. I swear they are more noisy than usual. They seem to be gathering in packs and flying over screeching.

I don't even live in a seaside town!

Is it just me? Or is there a reason why they would be more noisy?

I’ve noticed they are generally much more noisy this year too. Don’t know why. Their breeding season tends to be July so the worst should be over by now.

Velvian · 13/08/2022 06:36

Yes! 2nd time this week I've been woken by them and it's the weekend 😭

ProperSorryFrown · 13/08/2022 06:42

Definitely! I live in a seaside town and watch them from my kitchen window. They get really noisy when the are encouraging the younger ones to fly. They all surround it screeching at it whilst in the air.
I let my hens out quite early, and as I tend to throw the gulls scraps sometimes they all start shouting and circling when they see me. Clever buggers.

TabithaTittlemouse · 13/08/2022 06:42

No more noisy than usual this time of year. They seem to celebrate the influx of holiday makers.

Redglitter · 13/08/2022 06:43

Yes!! We just commented this morning at work that they were really loud. We never normally notice them

CormoranStrike · 13/08/2022 06:50

YES!!! I’m literally lying in bed thinking this exact thing.

is it maybe mating season?

MargaretThursday · 13/08/2022 07:11

Not round here. They are very quiet this year. We commented the other day. It's not that they're not around as I can see them coiling ropes in the sky.

Pugdogmom · 13/08/2022 07:22

Yes. I'm not even near the sea and sat outside in my garden trying to wake up, and the flying rats are causing it.

Clawdy · 13/08/2022 07:28

No seagulls, but the pigeons here have been hooting loudly from five this morning! Much more noisy than usual.

SomethingToldTheWildGeese · 13/08/2022 07:34

They're probably excited by newly ploughed fields post-harvest?

justasking111 · 13/08/2022 07:36

A lot of the young ones are dying of thirst, they're falling off rooves stone dead. But I haven't noticed more noise. Our local store that has a few in the car park are huddling in the shade and using the dog bowls

Oh god that sounds horrific. I'm in Cumbria so have been pretty oblivious to the situation down south.

They're very loud around us - northwest coast. Awful, shrieking creatures.

Lisbeth50 · 13/08/2022 08:03

Yes. We have had huge groups of them flying around noisily. We are nowhere near the sea.

sunsetsandsandybeaches · 13/08/2022 08:22

No. If anything they're really quiet this year!

rainbowstardrops · 13/08/2022 08:29

Oh my days, they are so bloody noisy here!!! I live in a seaside town in the south (but not right near the seafront) and sometimes they start their screeching from just after 3.30am although it's usually from around 4.30am.

It's so hot here right now, so obviously windows open which makes it even noisier.

Bloody screeching things!

NooNakedJacuzziness · 13/08/2022 08:49

We get a wood pigeon who sits on the chimney and the "uh UHH uh uh-uh" echoes down into the bedroom - wanker.

TroysMammy · 13/08/2022 08:53

Yes they are and I was wondering if some stupid neighbour was throwing out food at 5.30 this morning as they were making such a racket. Could it be full moon madness?

I bet your neighbours love that!

yes they are very noisy this year. I normally don’t notice them at all but this year they’ve been very vocal. Live in a small inland city in SE England

zoopigi · 13/08/2022 09:07

Yes

MissMaple82 · 13/08/2022 09:15

I love the sound of seagulls! And your probably only waking up due to heat and just noticing them.

I purposely do it around mid day for that very reason! But the sods recognise me and make a fuss whenever they see me.

Oh, you said originally that guy do it early.

but whatever time of day I’d not be too impressed If a neighbour were actively encouraging noisy seagulls. Stop it.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 15/08/2022 00:34

Nope, it's been quieter this year and less inflating dingy noises too (young seagulls shouting).
Every fecking year the seagulls gather and start shouting from 02:30 onwards. Every year I try various noise cancelling things, ear plugs cause agony. This year I have just shoved my head under a pillow and hoped.
Don't get me started on the pigeons and crows!
