DH and I have two children, first / only marriage for each of us. Our wills are very simple mirror wills leaving everything to each other in the first instance, then to be shared equally between our children.

If you and your partner (if you have one) don’t have children, who or what are you leaving your assets to ?

I’m mostly asking out of nosiness (as this is an anonymous forum) but also as we have this situation in our family and I’m interested what other people have done.

Executors don't benefit from wills, beneficiaries do.

Executor is an administrative role.

Thank you, but in case of a solicitor being an executor, they charge their fees against the funds left in the will?
So can a private executor charge fees for their time?

A private executor can charge "expenses".

Usually you leave a sum to any executor to counter this issue, if they are not already a beneficiary. But you don't have to, it's just convention.

A solicitor charges whatever fee structure has been agreed, could be a set sum, could be paid in advance, could be a percentage of the estate.
