Is it normal to have them?

i have been one but i dont really jave a garden. Just a few pot plants, potatoes. And sheep to water.

Oldraver · 12/08/2022 21:16

We do have a hosepipe but also waterbutts, though the front one dried up and I meant to top it up before we went away ( knew rain wasn't expected for a while). So we have just had to top them up with buckets as we couldn't use the hosepipe

IMO they should ban the twats who use a sprinkler for hours on the bloody grass like my neighbour or ban pressure washers being used or sprinklers being left switched on on gardens..... Not the actual use of a hosepipe

@CrunchyCarrot The Last Leg mentioned earlier that disabled people are exempt from any hosepipe bans, precisely for the reasons you've just mentioned. So you and your plants shouldn't need to worry.

Yes we have four water butts (which have been dry for over a month) and a hose.

We use it, and watering cans to water the tomatoes, herbs and newly established plants and potted trees. Never the lawn, which is completely crispy now. Grass will always grown back.

Somehow there is no hosepipe ban here yet, but we don't waste it anyway (on a meter).

If you have a garden you give a toss about, you water it.

Obviously you don't OP. Not being to stretch your imagination to it though is a surprise.

sweatyannie · 13/08/2022 07:36

We have one , an outdoor tap and a waterbutt. Obviously the waterbutt is pretty dormant at the moment.

Hosepipe useful for hosing the dog down 🤣

CrunchyCarrot · 13/08/2022 07:45

@PinkArt Hmmm I think (from what I can find out via Google) I'd need to be a Blue Badge holder, which I am not. I'm one of those disabled people who look perfectly OK. I wouldn't want to be the one person able to water my garden when all my neighbours wouldn't be able to, that just doesn't sit right with me, anyway. But thanks for the info, I'm sure it will be useful for someone! :)

sunsetsandsandybeaches · 13/08/2022 08:27

We have one.

We rarely need to water the garden as we live in Cumbria (our grass is lush green at the moment for reference!) but we do use it for:

Washing the dog if he comes in muddy.
Filling the paddling pool.
Getting the sea water off DH's fishing and kayaking stuff before it goes in the wash.
Rinsing the concrete if the dog does a wee on it.
Washing the cars.

We have one, but only for the jet washer. I've never used it to water the garden and we didn't have one for the first 10 years of garden ownership!
