Why isn't a scotch egg considered a breakfast food?

It's basically sausage, egg and bread in a sphere shape....

Picnic food because it's served cold?

CakeCrumbs44 · 11/08/2022 22:38

Although it seems more breakfasty than smoked fish, boiled eggs and rice 🤢

Who's going to make their own scotch eggs? 😂 they come from the supermarket

I used to before the DCs came along and stole all my spare time. Dry cold shop bought do not come close to freshly made. As a child I was able to get still-warm freshly made scotch eggs from the local butcher, which is the best of all worlds 😌

I think they can be a breakfast food if you want them to be OP 🙂 No reason why not, although maybe ease its journey with a glass of OJ to at least give a nod to healthy eating and 5-a-day...
I agree we can be quite funny with rules about what constitutes a breakfast food or not. Personally I like hummus or fancy cheese (not melted) on toast. I need savoury, carbs, and protein. One of the things I love about travelling is trying out different breakfasts: super fresh battered and spicy fried fish, and dhal with fresh roti and a fried egg have been my favourites. We are off to France soon, and I'm looking forward to some really good continental breakfasts sat on a sunny balcony.

It is in my house.
Not regularly but I have eaten such a delicious confection to break my fast 😄

I hear you, sister. I’m glad to know I am not alone.

OP you make a very valid point.
Am now debating if I want a Scotch egg enough to go to the 24hour asda any buying some.
I make them using cheap sausages then you can season to your own taste. Slightly cheaper too.

Ooh you coul d fill one with beans!

DeanStockwelll · 12/08/2022 06:17

@Thorilicious that recip looks quite easy but I don't have a air fryer .
I wonder if they can be cooked in the oven.

DeanStockwelll · 12/08/2022 06:19

@Whoops1 oooooh yes 🥚

LadyOfTheCanyon · 12/08/2022 06:24

Cut in half, eat egg. Fill egg space with pile of coleslaw.

Stuff into face. Delicious.

What an excellent point!

RoobarbandCustud · 12/08/2022 20:15

@Davros I make them! In the air fryer. They're on my meal plan rotation. They are 110% nicer that the supermarket ones that look like bolisha beacons with grey meat.

I've had many haute/posh scotch eggs but not at home. When can I come round? 👅 🍴
I'm thinking of the plastic wrapped, hard boiled, basic ones we ate in the 1970s. I'd still eat 'em
