It's my dd (aged 9).

Poor thing is saying it's stinging and hurting when she walks. The gp gave a steroid cream and then a type of emollient after the dry skin has all come off but it's not really helped much and it's now started on her other heel too Sad

The gp thinks it might be psoriasis but wasn't sure.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated, im really starting to worry now.

Ah I see it now

Did all the skin come off in sheets before it looked like this?

If so I had something that looked similar and felt like I was walking on knives!

Fungal infection

SilverGlassHare · 09/08/2022 16:42

Wow, that does look sore. Poor DD! I don’t suppose it could be athletes foot/something fungal?

ofHardey · 09/08/2022 16:43

The skin does peel off a fair bit , it's usually in her bed when im cleaning her room in the morning.

How could the gp miss a fungal infection though ?

Yep, fungal infection.

Justwingingit2005 · 09/08/2022 16:45

Looks like ringworm to me aka fungal infection.

ofHardey · 09/08/2022 16:45

He's a skin specialist so I'm sure he would pick up on a fungal infection, no? It really doesn't look like Psorisis to me though and I did say that but he said it presents differently where the skin is thicker such as the heels.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 09/08/2022 16:46

Get a second opinion if GP hasn't seen that's a fungal infection

Justwingingit2005 · 09/08/2022 16:47

I'd try daktarin. Always worked when my kids have had a fungal infection.

ofHardey · 09/08/2022 16:47

Is it common for the fungal infection to spread to the other foot then?

OP posts:
Motnight · 09/08/2022 16:48

I had what looked the same many years ago. It was so sore I couldn't go to work. It was a fungal infection.

ofHardey · 09/08/2022 16:49

I'm so shocked everyone is saying the same thing . And so guilty that I havnt posted sooner . We've even been on holiday with her feet like this and walked so much.

I'd see a Podiatrist for advice.

ReformedWaywardTeen · 09/08/2022 16:51

My DD had similar earlier this year. She had to have a whole host of creams starting with Dermovate and then a fortnight after a different cream and so on.

It's a form of eczema, called gianotti-crosti , hers was caused by low iron and stress.

She had to see a Dermatologist to get diagnosed though and hers was crusty and sore and flaky too.

CandidaAlbicans2 · 09/08/2022 18:48

"gianotti-crosti"? Do you get garlic bread with that?

ofHardey · 10/08/2022 00:31

@ReformedWaywardTeen is your dd better now ?

endofthelinefinally · 10/08/2022 00:35

It does look fungal. Hopefully gp will do blood tests to see if her immune system is weak. They can send skin samples to be tested.

msssm · 10/08/2022 00:55

I have psoriasis on my elbow and on my leg that looks exactly like this.

ittakes2 · 10/08/2022 01:09

A great Portland child’s dermo recommended this website to me I just typed in heel and you can compare it to the photos

I agree with previous poster, take her to a Podiatrist. They specialize in feet!

Me too.
Especially if there are flakes in the bed in the morning.
Dead Sea salt to soak them and aloe Vera gel to moisturise is my method of easing it - before steroid creams and the like

Yes, in fact she had it for five months before we saw the dermatologist as the GP was hopeless.

Within a fortnight of just the Dermovate her skin was clearing up

She does get the odd flair due to stress but at one point she had it across her elbows and wrists, her underarms, back, feet and legs. It was incredibly uncomfortable.

Yes it does have quite the name doesn't it?
