Things that are now forever named after something your kid said

In our household, I make a rice dish sometimes that is named after my son's reaction to it when he was about 3. Knowing he liked rice and sweetcorn, I presented him with this dish that includes both, only for his little face to crumple and him to give an anguished cry of 'MUMMY, WHY DID YOU DO THAT TO IT?!'

So of course, it has ever since been known as 'Mummy why did you do that to it?!' (I've even crossed out the name in the recipe book and written it there). DS is now 11 and actually likes MWDYDTTI these days, although he still leaves the green peppers.

Is there anything that your household now refers to by something memorable one of the kids has said?

Crips (crisps)
Marks Expensives (Marks and Spencer’s)
Clippy Clipper (Stapler)
Snippy snips (scissors)

I was just coming on to say Marks Expensive as my son (now 26) used to say that.

Hegg trolls (peg dolls)
Brown fizzy pop (cola)
Fassers (blueberries. Why, I don't know ...)
Tit cock tit cock. (The sound a clock makes)

What a great thread, I'm going to go back and listen to loads of these now!

Any Mountain Goats fans? I'm currently stuck on Old College Try. I'm a very cheerful person but the goats do a lovely line in erudite and bleak which I can listen to for hours.

Snausage. One of my kids said it when young and it stuck and that’s what we all still call them. My kids are adults now but it’s still snausage and we don’t even find it funny unless someone outside the family is here and goes ‘what?’ as it’s just what the word has become to us if that makes sense.

HoppingPavlova · 17/08/2022 05:49

Oh yes, broccoli is still ‘little trees’ in our house also. I imagine visitors think we are mad.

My 3 year old daughter came to tell me that there was "More Jesus on the stairs". Understandably I was rather baffled. She was very frustrated that I didn't understand her so kept yelling "MORE JESUS MUMMY!!" at me until I reluctantly agreed, with some trepidation, to go and see what she had found.

It transpired to be some maltesers. Grin

Unfortunately our windows were wide open throughout the incident so our neighbours probably think we are running some kind of evangelical cult and indoctrinating small children.

Thought of another one! When DS2 was in reception class his Christmas show included a song that contained the line 'Joseph, Mary and the baby too'. Except DS misheard it as 'the baby Sue' so now Jesus is the baby Sue or just Sue. We're not religious so this only really comes up at Christmas but still makes me laugh

Hoat cangers, instead of Coat hangers. Wermaids instead of mermaids.

My daughter has a teacher whose first name is Veronica. She once came out of school and proudly told me that “Mrs So-and-So’s first name is Fronker!”

The lady will forever be known as Fronker in our house.

PeraltasWife · 10/02/2023 09:15

We have milk as mook and minute as mimmit. So "I will get you a glass of mook in a mimmit" is a very common phrase in our house. All thanks to our toddler Grin

MunchMunch · 10/02/2023 09:21

cuncumbers - cucumbers
cinderellalala - Cinderella
"she's biting she's paws" - after dm's dog was biting her paws now every dog we see that is biting their paws we say that. My dc are now teens/adult.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/02/2023 09:30

‘Stuffed to the highest heaven’ (after eating) - courtesy of a little dd.

Umbabella - that was from someone else’s 3 yo Gdd ages ago. ‘I know it’s not my birthday, Grandma, but I would like an umbabella.’

And from a young nephew, who’d been told the proper T word but had forgotten it, ‘willyballs’ 😂

Gilead · 10/02/2023 09:42

We are still using dishless for delicious in our house. He was 38 last month

ElaOfSalisbury · 10/02/2023 09:44

BawRamEwe · 10/02/2023 16:39

Tgif2023 · 10/02/2023 16:53

Smyth's toy superstore now Smyth's snores superstore (DS really struggled with speech but we still call it this since it stuck).
Tummy ache is stumpy ache.

Tot, when in naughty mode, calls London Bridge - London widge but we aren't letting that one stick.
