No dentists available. Tooth pain making me miserable

shehesmesloos · 09/08/2022 14:30

I have a wisdom tooth that's cut through - it feels like there's no room for it! If that makes sense: and it's cutting into my cheek Sad

It's so sore. I can't even open my mouth wide enough properly

I have rung round but nobody can take me on. Phoned 111 and they can't help - they said they don't deal with dental issues

What else can I do! It's so horrific. Can I pull it myself! I know it'll be painful BUT is there anything else that could go wrong if I do pull it?

Thank you so much

Ring 111 again, they should help, it says so on the NHS website!

TheFlis12345 · 09/08/2022 14:36

And don’t for gods sake pull it yourself, you will never be able to do that cleanly and are likely to end up far worse off with infections and all sorts.

Mustardbay · 09/08/2022 14:37

Can you afford a private emergency appointment, where I work it'll be £110 for the assessment xray and prescription.

Yeah ring 111 back on they are supposed to do emergency dental care. I was referred for a temp repair after my tooth cracked during the weekend.

feeona123 · 09/08/2022 14:38

111 can definitely refer for dental problems, they did for me!

HappyHamsters · 09/08/2022 14:39

Can you get to a pharmacy for painkillers and a numbing gel or spray. Do you have a dental hospital nearby. 111 do deal with dental issues and should will be an emergency dentist near you. Dental care is a disgrace here.

shehesmesloos · 09/08/2022 14:45

Phoned NHS 111 again. They told me at the end of the Assesment to just ring round and gave me local dentist practice names Confused

My mum travels from Somerset to my home town in Hampshire to see a private dentist. She couldn't get one where she lives

JoanOgden · 09/08/2022 14:48

Can you buy some dental wax to stop it digging into your cheek?

TheFlis12345 · 09/08/2022 14:54

Try posting on local media to see if anyone knows of a dentist nearby taking new patients?

shehesmesloos · 09/08/2022 15:00

I just can't afford to go private. It isn't possible right now

Could someone realistically tell me what'll happen then? Because the pain obviously can't continue like this, I can't even open my mouth wide enough for example to bite a small burger

So surely me taking it out myself is the lesser evil if after a few days I still can't access help?

Don’t pull it yourself, you could get an infection which would be even more painful and can be lethal. Every year a few people die in America from trying to do their own dental treatment.

Keep harassing 111.

Call dentists and ask how much it is for a private extraction. Think is £600 round here. Might be worth it.

supadupapupascupa · 09/08/2022 15:01

You need anti biotics. Strong ones. I'd go to A&E if you can't afford private and can't find nhs dentist.

Thank you but wouldn't A&E need to have a dentist in to help me? A regular doctor or consultant can't do it can they? Or can they Blush

Some info is on the site below.

Try calling NHS England 0300 311 2233 and saying you have a dental emergency, cannot afford private treatment and cannot find any dentists willing to take a new NHS patient despite calling lots and that 111 aren’t helping.

Whiteflowers1 · 09/08/2022 15:08

People saying harass 111- I work for 111. We signpost people to places after an assessment whether that's ED, minor injuries, dentist, GP, etc etc, if they do not have capacity to see people that's not 111s fault! Dental provision at the moment is shocking, as of April there are barely ANY emergency dentists and 111 can't magic them out of nowhere!
It is a case of ringing around and seeing who can get you in and be prepared to travel.

OP like many other people is probably not registered with a dentist which is their responsibility.

JorisBonson · 09/08/2022 15:08

111 will book you an appointment at an emergency dentist. This happened to me when I had a bad infection. Call them again and insist you are referred, as per their website. Tell them you do not have a dentist.

JorisBonson · 09/08/2022 15:08

If you need dental treatment in an emergency

call a dentist: some surgeries offer appointments at short notice
if you do not have a dentist, find one using NHS 111

courtrai · 09/08/2022 15:13

Do you have a dental access centre locally? They should see unregistered patients for emergency treatment

midgetastic · 09/08/2022 15:19

Op is probably not registered because she can't afford private / nothing to do with her responsibility

I am not registered with a dentist because nobody is taking on new patients

That's all well and good in theory but most people can't access ANY dentist.

courtrai · 09/08/2022 15:35

What town/city are you nearest to OP?

OfficiallyBroken · 09/08/2022 15:47

There are two dental hospitals within 30 minutes drive of my home who will always help with emergency dental treatment at NHS rates. They do have students so part of the trade off is you being a learning experience with full supervision.

Have another look to see if there's a dental hospital anywhere near you, they'll have similar options I'm sure.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

liveforsummer · 09/08/2022 15:57

I had this once. I was in so much pain I actually passed out trying to eat. Couldn't even open mouth wide enough to slide a bit of toast in. It was a Sunday so I want to A&E. If I remember rightly it was an emergency dentist I saw but don't know if they will always be on site these days. Was a few years ago and a rural area so no dentist hospital etc. if it's that bad any dr will be able to provide anti biotics if it's clear that's what you need you might have to stand quite firm though
