Just wondering what age people tend to develop health issues if at all.
I'm 39 with no health issues.

At 40 it all went wrong for me

Pretty much this, though I count myself lucky it's nothing serious.

A back injury didn't heal in the way it would have done previously. My IBS, while still under control, takes up more of my head space than it used to. My teeth require regular and expensive care.

Add the menopause into the mix and I have the feeling that I'm gently degrading, like an old building 😆

25 and then 28. Completely ruined my life and nothing has gone right for me since.

Nat6999 · 09/08/2022 00:00

38 after giving birth to ds, I nearly died & within 6 months had been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. The rheumatologist who diagnosed me said that the most likely cause was psychological trauma from the birth. That was 2004 & within 10 years I had ME/CFS, Arthritis, irritable bowel disease, endometriosis & depression. I had to have 4 operations in 9 months & it feels like as soon as I get diagnosed with one thing something also comes straight after.

Nat6999 · 09/08/2022 00:02

I also have underactive thyroid, Autism & hypermobility.

User6761 · 09/08/2022 00:03

I'm early 40s. Diagnosed as hypothyroid at 40 but doesn't cause me any issues. Hereditary hearing loss in one ear diagnosed mid 30s. Have always had bunions - inherited - but they have only caused me pain in recent years. I can no longer do impact exercise as a result.

The biggest change for me is that I've had to have several tests in past 3 years or so for different things - all have been clear thankfully. But before my 40s I never had any health scares.

TeapotTitties · 09/08/2022 00:09

53
Hypothyroidism
High cholesterol
Needed a polyp removed

Before that, I never ever visited my GP unless it was for contraception or a smear test. They even sent me a letter asking if I was still living at this address and if I wanted to remain on their books.

willowstar · 09/08/2022 00:31

Slipped disc in my early 20s set me on a course of fairly long term chronic pain but with reprieves. It has had an enormous impact on my life. I am so envious of people who can exercise,.or just move freely, dance etc... tinnitus started early 30s due to stress and I have increasing mobility problems related to a very flat foot and arthritis in feet. I am 48 and knackered. Pain is always present or not far away. I don't like to think of the future and what it holds.

That's me
I went for a kidney scan and they were "your kidneys are fine BUT we found something on your ovary"
Yeah, please stop finding things now Grin

illiterato · 09/08/2022 01:31

I have had some very random stuff - had to have a corneal graft after a tropical eye infection so I don't have clear vision in that eye, although doesn't really affect me, my cervix ate my Mirena threads and it had to be fished out under GA and I had a double bunion correction in my early 40s as had crossover on my left foot. Touch wood all ok at the moment (at 50) other than little things like I'm getting long sighted on top of being a little short sighted.

bruffin · 09/08/2022 07:08

I had a couple of years of problems with entremetial cysts in early 40s, then 59 ended up in hospital with uti and diabetes and went straight onto insulin.

AndStand · 09/08/2022 07:27

I'm 56 now, but I've had migraines for over 40 odd years.
My knees started to hurt literally on my 40th birthday. Ahhh, osteoarthritis.

WaitingForWinter1 · 09/08/2022 07:31

Last year, when I was 62. I got Covid, had to be put on a ventilator for 2 weeks, during which time I had a stroke. I'm about 90-95% back to what I was (driving, etc) but on 5 different tablets a day. Before all that, I went to Zumba 4 times a week and wasn't on any medication.

acuteanxiety · 09/08/2022 07:31

23

WaitingForWinter1 · 09/08/2022 07:32

On top of that, the hospital discovered a brain tumour - no symptoms or anything, so they're not going to look at it again for another year.

Tumbleweed101 · 09/08/2022 07:47

My knees have had problems since last year (45) and I was also diagnosed with asthma last year although probably have had to longer. Otherwise I’ve always been reasonably healthy until now. I think I have have gone into peri menopause too as that has all gone a little off kilter over the last few months.

ConnieSaks · 09/08/2022 07:53

Perfect health until 59 - then cancer! Still here though and hopefully just about getting over last of the chemo side effects and feel like the ‘old’ me again. Not sure how long this will last but will try and enjoy every moment!

Minecraftatemychild · 09/08/2022 10:18

36 gynaecology problems

41 back problems
42 leg problems

Not looking forward to old age

whydoesithurtsomuch · 09/08/2022 11:35

About 52. And worsened around 58.

Wafflefudge · 11/08/2022 19:15

thanksto everyone who shared their experiences, good and bad and sad.
and to those who asked for clarification and felt the question didn't make sense as young people suffer from chronic illnesses too, that's why I hadn't been too specific in asking the question as I didn't want anyone to feel i didn't want to hear from them, I was interested in all experiences. Obviously age might not be relevant for some and would be for other things but I just wanted to hear from a variety of people. Realise that makes it very vague and unscientific but was just a general musing really.

22 years old.

bippityboppity87 · 11/08/2022 20:01

Diagnosed with bipolar at 31 and have to take multiple medications for daily. Then adhd two years later

Physically, my knees started to go just after my DS was born. Basically my knee caps are off to the side instead of where they should be. Sleep apnea, IBS. I'm 35

On the plus side, my liver, kidneys, thyroid and blood pressure are fine (Get this checked every 3 months)
