Just wondering what age people tend to develop health issues if at all.
I'm 39 with no health issues.

Early 30s really. My hair started falling out. It never really recovered and I have since found out I have a couple of underlying conditions.

Iwantcollarbones · 08/08/2022 20:59

I was fine until 33 when I had a TIA. The most depressing part of it was the medications I’ll have to take for the rest of my life. I had a heart op at 36 to reduce my risk of further strokes. Even with that I felt fine, was fit, running marathons etc but then I picked something up whilst travelling through the airport 5 years ago and I’ve been on my (ever expanding) arse since. I’ve recently been diagnosed with chronic rhinosinitus and am waiting for an operation to clear that although it doesn’t guarantee that it will work. No one seems to know how difficult life is when you have the symptoms of a heavy cold every day. It’s utterly exhausting. I’m dreading starting other age related ailments on top of it.

At 33 last year. I started to get horrible thrush and UTI symptoms that would come and go, but tested negative for everything. I’ve had symptoms now since March and now have an embedded fungal infection, identified from a private test I paid for after getting no where with my GP which I’m battling to get rid of. And then while on holiday got a nasty UTI infection with a bacteria I’ve never heard of that I’ve been ill with for weeks. I was completely healthy until a year ago and no idea what the root cause is, it’s tough.

Sorry if this is asking the obvious but have you been tested for diabetes? That often causes thrush and infections like this.

ToastofLandon · 08/08/2022 21:17

@Wouldloveanother tested 3 times for diabetes this year and negative each time, hormone levels and thyroid are ‘normal’ too. 😞Have started working with a nutritional therapist to try and investigate the root cause, have given up on my GP they just fob me off every time.

PinkPupZ · 08/08/2022 21:18

25

Hbh17 · 08/08/2022 21:23

Aged 57 & haven't seen a GP for nearly 20 years.
Just had a one-off incidence of gallstones pancreatitis 11 years ago, requiring surgery.

I don't believe in making a fuss about my health unless a limb is hanging off and never want to be one of those women who bang on about their health all the time.

Riverlee · 08/08/2022 21:27

Late 40s, breast cancer. Reaching my ten year milestone, but as a direct result of that, put on three stone, had a hysterectomy, developed mild osteoporosis and lost body confidence at times. I was never a supermodel, and always considered myself tubby, but for the first time ever, felt uncomfortable to the point of tears with my body shape. (Obviously always wanted to have a better shape before, but had accepted myself for who I was).

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 08/08/2022 21:27

I mean it was all downhill from conception really.

stillvicarinatutu · 08/08/2022 21:30

I turned 50 in feb . Went to Rome . Had a ball . Came home and left leg swollen.....turns out knee ankle and foot fucked ! Never had so much of a hint - always been fit and active and run - now I can't bloody drive an hour .
I hate getting old ! It's osteoarthritis.

Elsiebear90 · 08/08/2022 21:31

I had an autoimmune skin condition diagnosed at 10 that’s thankfully been in remission ever since, acid reflux caused by slow stomach emptying diagnosed at 20, endometriosis diagnosed at 26. Thankfully nothing else since then (I’m 32).

TwinklingFairyLightz · 08/08/2022 21:33

I'm 43. Smoked and drank too much in my 20s. Healthy so far but wonder if my 20s will catch up with me. I'm active, healthy weight and try to eat a mostly good diet.

Vinorosso74 · 08/08/2022 21:35

Aged 46, when diagnosed with breast cancer. Had never had any health issues before. My active treatment finished earlier in the year but I have regular ovarian suppression injections which have forced me into menopause and as an added extra letrozole tablets which further reduce my oestrogen. I feel 68 rather than 48.
Turns out I also have osteopenia, the PICC line for my chemo caused a DVT and I'm still on anticoagulants.
Mentally, it's taken it's toll too.

Flamingle18 · 08/08/2022 21:36

Diagnosed with Crohn's disease at 16 and had large part of intestine removed as well as appendix as intestine was strangling it. Anaemia, Gall bladder removed at 30, rheumatoid arthritis at 33, scleritis at 34. I assume it's all connected though. I'm now 39.
On the other hand DP had no health problems until he was 49

ChloeKellyIsAnIcon · 08/08/2022 21:36

I'm 48 and healthy (touch wood!), DH is 47 and healthy.

For my parents / in laws:
DF - severe asthma from childhood
DM - chronic back pain from 34, trigeminal neuralgia from her 50s
MIL - good health until she had a stroke at 82
FIL - good health until he got prostate cancer age 75, radiotherapy cured the cancer but left him with other issues, heart problems from 82

been and done it. · 08/08/2022 21:37

67...had an accident and broke my back. Subsequently diagnosed with Osteoparosis. Recovered from back injury then developed fairly serious auto immune conditions which are ongoing but improving.

MrsMigginsCat · 08/08/2022 21:38

Cancer at 48. Subsequently found out I have a genetic mutation that increases my risk of a range of other cancers. Bit rubbish, but I do now get two yearly screening so hopefully any nasties should they appear will be caught early.

MercuryOnTheRise · 08/08/2022 21:42

I listed my chronic illnesses earlier on the thread. Hyper then hypo thyroid and osteoporosis although that has caused 5 broken bones in the last 6/7 years. But I recall now: secondary infertility, a prolapsed bladder, a rectocele, some childbirth related anal sphinter weakness. A couple of BCC's last year - or was it BSC's - benign sun damage lesions. I take levo, amitryptiline teraparatide.

I do not discuss I'll. I rarely visit the doctor. I look fit and well. Compare and contrast to my mum. 86. Never had an operation, been in hospital once, takes no tablets. But she has a season ticket for the gp and is always being referred for something or another. I think it's now called health anxiety and goes on like a durable battery. To be fair, she looks bloody wonderful

Horcruxe · 08/08/2022 21:44

OP are you coming back?

Plenty of kids have chronic health conditions so your question really makes no sense to me unless you come back and clarify.

adriftabroad · 08/08/2022 21:54

Got Guillaine Barre at 45. ICU for 5 weeks. 52 now, never been the same.

It was stress, menopause and DD having CPox and EpsteinBarr and reactivating it in me.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 08/08/2022 21:57

Cancer at 30, thankfully recovered now

StarCourt · 08/08/2022 22:44

39 when I started having migraines which are now chronic daily migraines. Aged 44 diagnosed with arthritis which has resulted in 3 operations so far and at least one more on the cards. I'm now 55 and in daily pain with mobility issues

Hm2020 · 08/08/2022 22:49

I developed a rare life long neurological condition that needed many surgerys at age 20 possibly triggered due to pregnancy but no one really knows.

Clarabe1 · 08/08/2022 22:53

I am 49 and at the moment perfectly healthy but I have noticed my knees ache more and get tired more easily. I think that is just normal age progression. It all goes downhill around menopause but I am grateful I have no major health issues.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 08/08/2022 23:34

25 I had a blood clot while pregnant and spent 5 days in hospital antenatal and 7 days postnatal.
I suppose I've had mh issues from a young age but that also was recognised antenatally and properly diagnosed postnatally.
