Eat piercing at Claire's

So I was in town with my mum and we walked past Claire's accessories and I thought o I'll get my ears done for second time , as I sitting on the chair with 2 lovely friendly workers a girl came storming in and started shouting at me about getting my ears done there and I should get off the seat and go to her professional piercing studio up the street , the poor girls were really annoyed and I just felt like Im obviously a grown woman and I'm ok with getting the gun to pierce my ears 🤷 I mean I did it myself with a earring before 🤣 so my question is what is the worse that can happen , I know infection is common but really is that enough to scream at someone who made the decision themselves to get their ears pierced at Claire's accessories I just thought it was a pretty rude thing to do she actually decided to run into the shop to shout at me and the girls working and then she was so delighted with herself she actually physically skipped out of the shop ... It was kinda bizzard tbh 🤣 anyway I'll let yous know if my ears fall off 🙈
I was so embrassed as I didn't say anything but it happened so quick I just sort of went what ? I didn't even know what she had fully said untill after if that makes sense 🤣

She sounds demented or angry that she perceives Claire’s is taking custom from her. Your ears, your choice.

Hm2020 · 06/08/2022 17:34

That is quite funny.

I’ve been quite surprised at the criticism I’ve seen on MN of CA (or similar) ear piercing. No one (literally no one) I know in RL took their child to a piercing studio. Almost all went to one branch of CA or another and none of them have a bad word to say. No infections or any pain or other issues.

Same.

Definitely someone who’s fallen down the MN rabbit hole and it’s affected her sense of reality somewhat. She probably goes apeshit on her friends too when she visits and spots a toilet brush in their bathroom.

I mean she sounds deranged and is hardly a good advertisement for her own piercing studio but I'd never get my ears pierced at Claire's. My niece had hers done there and the holes are at completely different heights, it looks bloody awful and makes me cringe everytime I see her. Like you say though, you're an adult and they're your ears so it's your choice. Nothing to do with her or anyone else

jewishmum · 06/08/2022 19:02

They quoted me minimum £50+ something for my daughter to have hers done. I got mine done 20 years ago, £6 per piercing. I walked out.. she can wait.

Afterfire · 06/08/2022 19:04

Hmmm. Well the whole thing sounds insane but the main issue I have with Claire’s is that they pierce young childrens ears even when they don’t want them done, if their parents do. I’ve seen children as young as 3/4 being held down whilst they pierce their ears and I think that’s disgusting. I actually wrote and complained about it. Not that it’s done any good but anyhow. So I would never give my money to somewhere that did that.

At least good piercing studios tend to only do older teens, who actually want it done.

This. I researched it and researched when my daughter said she wanted it. Claire’s was the last place I would go. I looked all over and eventually took her to a top end tattoo place after talking to a woman in there - we booked an appointment. Then we both went back - dd was 13 she spoke to her on her own and then with me and then on her own.

needle and no pain. No infections and no issues. Dd went back after two weeks for a check up (which was optional) and it was fine and I felt 100% confident in the woman - she was happy to show me and estimate how many she had done and talk us through it. She got about 10 of DD friends through us alone!

Survivingmy3yearold · 06/08/2022 19:27

I took DD7 to a local piercing studio to get her ears done for her birthday. About half the girls in her class have had them done recently and not a single one has gone to CA. I've heard bad things about piercing with the gun and also that they're really expensive. The woman who did the piercing was amazing and we're 2 weeks in and they're healing amazingly well. It was really reasonable, £35 and that included the aftercare spray. I've heard that people have been stung for £60 or more at CA.

It's personal choice of course, and the woman sounds bonkers. Plenty of people obviously go to have it done there and plenty of people are happy with the results.

ItsSnowJokes · 06/08/2022 19:45

Well the woman sounds weird but as others said yabu to go to Claires. Why would you want to use blunt force trauma to pierce your ears? They use inexperienced workers who have had about 10 mins training to do piercings as well. A decent piercing studio will use a needle with no trauma and no pain. The guns that Claires use can also not be fully sterilised between piercings so you have a higher chance of infections. I absolutely cringe when I see people going to Claires for piercings.

Pennythoughts28 · 06/08/2022 21:15

What's does that mean lol sorry I'm not familiar with the terms just yet

I had to sign a form that said if it was your child getting it done that they were at least 6 but yeah I don't agree with that at all but to me that's more the parents at blame than Claire's accessories

Myself and all 4 of my dd's got their ears pierced with a gun and we had no problems whatsoever. They weren't done in Claire's as it happens, but dd no 3 got her nose pierced there a couple of years ago and the salesperson was wonderful, very careful and knowledgeable and again my dd had no problems at all. I never understand the big fuss on here about piercing guns, but perhaps we have just been lucky with the 16 + piercings we had among the 5 of us.

BooksAndHooks · 06/08/2022 21:25

She was OTT but there is good reason behind the argument against Claire’s. I could maybe understand if it was even cheaper than a piercing studio but it is over inflated prices with cheap earrings that can cause reaction.

We had my daughter’s pierced at a studio for under £40, it includes the earrings, solution and a free follow up appointment to change the earrings and check the healing. The piercer was experienced and had far more training than practicing with a gun on a cardboard ear.

Deadringer · 06/08/2022 21:27

Actually the very first time I got my ears pierced at age 7 they became infected, but they were done with a needle, I don't think the guns had been invented yet!

MissDollyMix · 06/08/2022 21:32

She sounds bonkers!! As you say you’re an adult and it’s entirely up to you where you have your ears pierced. I personally wouldn’t go to Claire’s for piercing (if I hadn’t already had mine done years ago) and recently had my own DD’s ear pierced at a specialist piercing studio. Contrary to a PP - I don’t know anyone who’s been to Claire’s for piercing - but plenty clearly do. My own ears were pierced with a gun in a beauty salon and they were fine but DD’s experience with the needle was so much gentler and the whole healing process has been smooth and painless.

EvilEdna1 · 06/08/2022 21:38

The earrings at Claire's for piercing are either stainless steel, titanium, gold plated or gold. They won't cause infections. Also the hygiene rules are strict. They also are not supposed to piece ears if the child doesn't want them done or us distressed although some parents ask them to break these rules. It is expensive but isn't all ear piercing? Shouldn't it be?

SavingsThreads · 06/08/2022 21:38

It's not about infection OP. A needle is
More accurate, less painful and allows the wound to heal faster.

A fun literally blasts a hole in your ear (it's called a gun for a reason!) and causes a lot more damage and yes, increased risk. I had mine done at Claire's as a child and have horrible scar tissue I can feel in each, and long term issues with them.

hamdden12 · 06/08/2022 21:44

What @SavingsThreads said. My daughter had hers done at my sisters tattoo studio because I wasn't aware of the damage a ear piercing gun can do. I had a cartilage and tragus piercing done with a gun when I was younger and I've got scarring from both, I've had the other side done with a needle and it's healed much better. Saying that I've seen them doing ear piercing at Claire's and they do look to be following good hygiene standards and the earrings are not cheap crap. I suppose it's down to preference but that girl was being over the top!
