If you drink 2L fluid per day how many times do you pee in a day?

Just that really... if you drink the recommended 2L fluid (not just water, tea/milk/juice etc), how many times a day do you go to the toilet?

I try drinking the recommended amount but I find myself in the bathroom all day!!!!!

I drink about 3 litres but I take medication that means I'm more dehydrated than most.

germsandcoffee · 05/08/2022 08:53

I drink about 2 litres and literally pee about every hour during the day and wake once to pee in the night.
But I've I cut back on the fluid I get terrible headache.

howaboutchocolate · 05/08/2022 08:57

I drink around 3L a day. I've always weed a lot even when I drank less than 2L a day, if anything I go less now. I started drinking more when I was breastfeeding and now I have to drink that much or I feel dehydrated.

Sswhinesthebest · 05/08/2022 09:01

I drink loads and only go three or four times in the day. At night it’s a different story, but I think that’s psychological.

Tubbyinthehottub · 05/08/2022 09:43

I drink all the time and I'm constantly going to the toilet. I would feel dreadful on just 1.2 - 1.5 litres per day.

Tougherpolicies · 05/08/2022 09:47

Baffled by people drinking 3/4 litres a day, surely you're diluting your bodily fluids far too much? What's the point??

boymama82 · 05/08/2022 09:47

I drink about 3 litres a day and pee around every 45 minutes

It's really not that much liquid. This morning I've already had almost a litre - two 300ml mugs of tea and a 350ml glass of water.

How is it diluting bodily fluids? What do you think bodily fluids are? As long as you're eating as well and not like, chugging 4L of water in one go, it's completely fine.

Different size bodies need different amounts of water, then you have to factor in how active that person is and what their diet is like. I’m just shy of 100kg, if I only drank two litres of water a day I would be very dehydrated, which would not only make my breath stink, it would cause headaches, dry skin, smelly urine and potentially in the longterm health issues.

If someone was diluting their tissue fluid too much, no only would they be constantly weeing they would have headaches, sickness and potentially seizures.

I drink nearly 5l a day but only do one very big pee

@ReluctantCourier do you have a very labour intensive job, exercise a lot and sweat copiously? The average bladder holds 400ml during the day and 800ml during the night. Have you mentioned this to your Dr?

Your post as it stands is concerning.

over50andfab · 05/08/2022 10:08

As has been mentioned, there’s an average amount we should drink, then more (or less) is needed depending on factors like amount of exercise and diet. Drinking too much needlessly can make the kidneys works too hard.

For those who think they wee loads, as well as measuring fluid in you could also measures fluids out and how often ie keep a bladder diary for 2-3 days. Average no of wees a day is around 4-10, more in some situations.

Weeing too often can be a sign of things like diabetes, overactive bladder and menopausal Urogenital Atrophy (topical estrogen helps). Sometimes we can wee too much due to habit. Bladder training can help - first keeping a bladder diary and if we see sometimes we only wee a small amount then teaching the body to only go when we need to.

ReluctantCourier · 05/08/2022 10:15

I am five times bigger than average so this is probably why

HappydaysArehere · 05/08/2022 10:18

Although drinking a lot is encouraged you can drink too much. I learnt that last year when I ended up in intensive care having had a seizure. Also I discovered that avoiding salt was, for me, a mistake. My daughter is a nurse and one day I mentioned that my wee looked just like water. She replied that it should be the colour of straw. I didn’t think much about it until last year. In my case my sodium levels were going down but I didn’t realise the importance of keeping them near 35. I then had a straight forward hernia op and had trouble urinating so drank a lot in an attempt to remedy it. I don’t remember anything about that day or how much I drank but apparently I had to be resuscitated and transferred to intensive care where I was woken up three days later. I was put on a restricted water intake and I started putting salt on my meals. Now I drink a normal amount and the salt has brought my sodium levels up,to normal. So beware as you can overdo it.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 05/08/2022 10:31

I don't pee during the day, for some reason I seem to be a camel, I'm very busy at work though and always rushing around. I drink a LOT of water especially in this heat.
But at night - oh my God - I'm up every hour peeing. Its ridiculous.

Lightning020 · 05/08/2022 10:56

I am post menopausal and easily wee once an hour. Our bladders often get weaker during the menopause. I drink lots of water.

fizzywat · 05/08/2022 11:12

I drink water when thirsty or when constipated or ill. I don't add it up at all. Pee is always straw coloured. I think too much obsession with drinking water all day every day is not all that great and can lead to other issues. 1 to 1.5 litres which includes tea/coffee/juice/certain foods is the recommended amount.

But... each to their own. I'm sure you all know that excessive thirst can be a sign of diabetes.

I drink probably 1.5l of it in tea Grin
But I do spin classes most days and that's where most of the water drinking comes from, usually about a litre in a 30 min class

theniceunderstandingone · 05/08/2022 11:52

I started drinking 2-3 litres when I started intermittent fasting. I pee all day and it's very frequent. I timed it and I was going every 15/20 minutes. It helps when I'm not working because when I was in the office it was a nightmare lol

Fair enough, however with weeing on.y once a day it might help to measure how much you are weeing and expecting your bladder to hold.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 05/08/2022 12:02

Needing to wee every 20 minutes is too often, a female bladder can hold around half a litre so if you’re drinking 2 litres but peeing 10 times a day you’re not using the bladder anywhere near to capacity. Buttons offers good advice for training your bladder to hold more before sending the signals that you need a wee. If you always empty your bladder when it’s at a quarter capacity it will send the signal it needs emptying at that capacity, if you always react to the signal right away then you will feel like you need to wee very often even though actually your bladder is nowhere near full. Caffeine and things like orange juice can also make the bladder send out these signals before it is actually near capacity.

When you’re at home when you first feel the need to wee try distracting yourself a bit, I often find if I ignore the initial signal that I need a wee and am busy then it will go away for a while before alerting me again. Even if the signal doesn’t go away, try and increase the length of time your are waiting each time, so start by waiting 5 minutes after the signal to go, then 10, then 15 etc. Over time your bladder will learn not to alert you so soon and to wait until it is nearer capacity before telling you that you need to wee.

While low estrogen can cause the tissue of the urethral tract to weaken, topical estrogen absorbing through the shared wall from the vagina can help strengthen it. Also look at pelvic floor dysfunction. There are things that can be done to help.

I started doing Dr Kegel a couple of months ago morning and evening 8 times each session. It has stopped mild urinary incontinence. I have always had a weak bladder though so frequent trips to the toilet is par for the course for me.

stayinghometoday · 05/08/2022 15:14

I drink 2-3 liters and pee about 5- 6 times a day.

I have really good bladder control though.

Summerof22 · 05/08/2022 15:22

Last time I decided to drink a lot, in the afternoon, I was waiting for my daughter to get out of an activity and had to pee between two cars.
thankfully it was dark and quiet area, my bladder was literally about to explode.
sometimes i drink a lot but stop at lunch time.

rightonthyme · 05/08/2022 15:50

I drink probably about a litre and a half (litre of water and a few cups of coffee) per day, and pee about four/five times a day. Tried two litres and was weeing every hour!! The only time I don't is if I've done sport.
