If you drink 2L fluid per day how many times do you pee in a day?

Just that really... if you drink the recommended 2L fluid (not just water, tea/milk/juice etc), how many times a day do you go to the toilet?

I try drinking the recommended amount but I find myself in the bathroom all day!!!!!

I do one litre for each 25kg of body weight, so about four litres. I don’t think I wee that much, maybe 5-6 times a day.

Oblomov22 · 04/08/2022 20:37

I'm not sure I drink that much, but I pee tonnes. All the time. Sometimes 5 or 6 times a day?

PantsParty · 04/08/2022 20:38

Yeah I don’t feel like I need to go all day. I just go a lot more regularly then most people.

Buttons0522 · 04/08/2022 20:42

I saw a womens health physio this week and I learnt so much about bladder function. I drink what I would say is a normal amount but pee lots and have a bit of a complex about it - I know where all the public loos are in town, will sit at the end a row in the cinema, aisle seat on plane, always ‘go’ before leaving house/on arrival somewhere as I always have to go! She told me it is likely that my bladder has been trained to not hold its full capacity, starting as a child with ‘just in case’ or ‘have a try’ toilet visits! Then school and work when you can only go to the bathroom at certain times… Our brain is, over time, trained to ignore the normal signals from the bladder. My bladder apparently thinks it can hold much less than it actually can. Eventually this can lead to ‘latch key’ incontinence and multiple night waking. I’ve been given exercises to try and improve bladder function!

mynameischloe · 04/08/2022 20:45

@Buttons0522 that all sounds interesting. If you wouldn't mind, could you share the exercises she has given you to try please?

When you increase fluid intake you will initially need to wee more, but then you get used to it and you can wee a normal amount.

My fluid intake varies but I definitely drink 1-2L+ on hot days and I don't think I pee more than usual, except when I was pregnant, then it was challenging.

TheTeenageYears · 04/08/2022 20:51

I drink loads but yes do spend half my life in the toilet. I get headaches if I don't drink regularly so needing the toilet often is preferable to having a headache.

lOPAS · 04/08/2022 21:01

Peed 7 times today. Usually drink 3L of water a day. Will probably go twice more tonight.

AlwaysAnonymous · 04/08/2022 21:10

Yes! Though I am 17 weeks pregnant so that could be why… always peeing at the moment (though I did pee a lot before I was pregnant too).

megletthesecond · 04/08/2022 21:15

I probably pee about 8 times a day.

Getmoveon14 · 04/08/2022 21:25

I drink more than 2L of water a day but most of it in the morning and evening.I don't feel I need the toilet excessively; I am a teacher and have never needed to use toilet in a lesson. However, I wonder if different people need different amounts of liquid. I have always wanted to drink a lot (of water!) and as a child 40 years ago I was often really thirsty as people weren't encouraged to drink much water then.

ReluctantCourier · 04/08/2022 21:29

I drink nearly 5l a day but only do one very big pee

Buttons0522 · 04/08/2022 21:42

@mynameischloe of course! It’s all about re-training the bladder to brain signals, so when I feel the need to go I have to go to the bathroom and stand by the loo but not go. Try and spell street names backwards to occupy the brain and distract from the need to go and buy some more time! Let the bladder actually get fuller, to re- teach the brain that it does actually have a bigger capacity! I’ve been advised to only do this where you’re comfortable ie at home (just in case!) and when you know you haven’t actually got a full bladder eg first thing in the morning.

It’s a bit like imagining the bladder as a balloon filling up with water. It can fill almost to the top before you need to go, but mine is currently only letting me get to say half way before it tells me I need to go, because I have rarely let it get properly full. I thought it was fascinating when I was told. The saying words backwards at the loo sounds a bit odd but does the trick!

UxbridgeVoteBJOut · 04/08/2022 21:43

a lot... probably about 12x/day. On days when I have caffeine anyway, maybe only about 9x on a no-caffeine day. I Wait until I'm desperate to go too, not small production each time. Maybe I'll think to count tomorrow.

I've been through exactly the same. It's much better now too.

PrezelwithMarmite · 04/08/2022 22:17

Prob 8 times a day. I drink min 3l a day.
I have to have a drink with me or i feel anxious. Its strange. I drink even of not thirsty.

Plump82 · 04/08/2022 22:17

I'm drinking lots to try and stop me snacking. Im going about every 2 hrs plus 3 x during the night and still need as soon as I wake up. I'm exhausted!!!

Chohlin654 · 04/08/2022 22:36

I drink around 4-5 litres of water a day. Nothing else, don't like tea coffee etc. I pee 5 times a day.

bippityboppity87 · 04/08/2022 22:50

About 2 litres a day give or take. Sometimes I pee like a race horse, other days about 5 times. I think it depends on how dehydrated I am. If I'm really dehydrated then a lot less

Livpool · 04/08/2022 22:54

I drink a lot of water/squash and pee all day!

brianixon · 04/08/2022 23:53

I need to log it for control of meds. Six times a day minimum starting at about 06.00hrs, less and colour is darker.

walkersareback · 05/08/2022 00:28

Itsvalentino · 04/08/2022 19:58

This is why they say drinking plenty of water aids weight loss, it’s all the running backwards n towards to the loo.

I drink probably triple that and I just pee all day 🤣

you drink 6 litres a day aye?

PeloAddict · 05/08/2022 02:42

I drink loads
6 big mugs of tea
2l water when I'm exercising
Then probably another litre of water through the day

Go every 3hrs or so

garlictwist · 05/08/2022 04:57

I do exercise first thing in the morning so drink a fair bit of water with that, then two cups of tea and I am desperate for the loo every half an hour until lunchtime. It's very debilitating but at least I mainly wfh. I love my tea though so don't want to cut it out.
