Off for a few days to an Airbnb. Going to the water park and paddle boarding. Need restaurants and cafe recommendations please, plus any gems of quirky things to do

Winking Willies for fish and chips 🤭
There is an Ask Italian on the harbour but really Scarborough isn’t that great for food outside of traditional seaside treats. Cafe wise there are plenty dotted about, however weekends are especially busy, so it’s usually where you can find space!
if you fancy a day out in Whitby (20 mins) up the coast, visit Saltwick bay and go fossil hunting and find the shipwreck, only really worth it at low tide so check beforehand. It’s also very quiet up here so great for avoiding the crowds. There is a small cafe, but better to take a picnic as it’s a steep walk down the cliff face.
You can also walk across the cliff top to the Abby from here and into Whitby it’s self.
Also check if there is anything on at the

The naval warfare display at Peasholm Park is quirky for sure.

Scalby mills

The aqua park pool is lovely esp if it's not busy. Whitby abbey is cool too.

awonderfuladventure · 04/08/2022 12:53

There's a seal colony around there too, can't remember the name of it but it's a steep climb down to have a look.

Tuscany Too was v nice if you like Italian.

I enjoyed Scarborough. Lots of old Victorian architecture. You can see it was v grand in its day!
Go on the lift/tram thingy to get down the cliff on to the beach too.

Eat Me Cafe (upstairs at the Stephen Joseph Theatre) and The Green Room (Bar Street) are both great - interesting menus, delicious food.

VeggieSausage · 04/08/2022 12:57

Another vote for Winking Willy's!

BrimFullOfAsher · 04/08/2022 12:58

Another vote for Peasholme Park

Cat Cafe!!

Fish and chips from Whackers in town, ice cream from the Harbour Bar. There's a big wheel on the sea front. In Whitby there's a Dracula haunted walk house. Walk up the 199 steps to the abbey. I think there's a lake in Scarborough where you can open water swim. Definitely Peasholm park for the display on Saturdays (I think).

Nowyouseemenowy0udont · 04/08/2022 13:01

You might be too late, but there are puffins at Flamborough near Bridlington, although they leave around now. Plenty of seals there too and sometimes dolphins. They have a visiting albatross at Bempton Cliffs RSPB near Flamborough.

Nowyouseemenowy0udont · 04/08/2022 13:03

Robin Hood's bay is a very quirky little village built on a steep slope down to the sea, definitely worth a visit.

Bunty55 · 04/08/2022 13:04

You must try ' The Courtyard' for food. We always eat there when we stay.
Avoid the 'Famous' Fishpan. The food is dire.
Use the Victorian tramway. It is cheap and it saves a long walk up or down the hillside otherwise.
Enjoy! I love Scarbs

Harbour Cafe Bar for icecreams/sundaes/knickerbocker glory's

Essexexile · 04/08/2022 13:10

There’s an old boat in the harbour where you can sit and get drinks, it’s quite cool. There’s also boat trips round the harbour on a speedboat, great fun.
I second Whitby, it’s lovely and definitely do the 199 steps to the old Abbey ruins, the views are outstanding. Also try Staithes, it’s a bit further north and similar to Obin Hoods Bay in that it’s a steep walk down but when you get there, try the Cod & Lobster.

I’ve only had great fish and chips from the fish pan but admittedly last time I went was two years ago so ……

Mortonpup · 04/08/2022 13:15

Oh wow! Thanks all. We are doing a
Aqua park and also a lake for paddle boarding but believe our holiday house is walking distance to centre so these suggestions are great. I'll write them all down !

Get the bus to Robin Hood's Bay and Whitby. Both completely gorgeous.
Anne Bronte is buried in the churchyard there. There's a castle also.

We ate at a very nice Chinese restaurant called Kam Sang.

wizzler · 04/08/2022 13:26

Another vote for peasholme park display. Thought my kids would hate it... is v old fashioned and hasn't changed since I went 50 years ago but they l loved it. Also you can buy nuts in the cafe there and we hand fed the squirrels

badbaduncle · 04/08/2022 13:27

The Eat Me cafe is great :)

JazzTheDog · 04/08/2022 13:32

We had lunch in the Scarborough Flyer chain pub yesterday and it was delicious. We had a stroll along the front and went up the hill in the Victorian Tramway.

Been in York all week, loved the visit to York's Chocolate Story, also done train museum and air museum. Eaten at a couple of pubs, The Terrace and Plonkers on the River which were good. Hoping to try Bills or somewhere tonight.
