I'll start. I was making muffins this morning and realised that my cheap poundland muffin tins from 10 years ago are still serving their purpose.

Our Sony Bravia 40" tv bought for £450 in 2011. We traded in an old tv and got money off as well. It's been through 5 house moves and lived in storage.

A bread knife in sainsburys their own one, got about 15 years ago reduced to 10p! Got 5 as gave to family couldn't miss a bargain.
Still sharp and used for much more than bread. It actually cut gammon last week really well ( couldn't find the other knife)

Xmas wrap when i worked in a card shop reduced to 5p a roll from £3 a roll. For staff. There was only 3 staff. So we got to have all between us or it got binned.. 50 rolls of xmas wrap for £2.50.
Still have some now and it doesn't look dated. That was 10 years ago

A red plastic lemon squeezer, a red metal garlic press and a wooden rolling pin. All from The Reject Shop, Tottenham Court Rd, 1989. Probably about 50p each lol

DelurkingAJ · 02/02/2023 23:24

Lates 90s Kitchen Reject wine glasses. Bought to take to uni on the assumption they’d be destroyed. £5 for 12, still have 6 in use.

It's been retired now, but the cot frame my grandparents bought in 1933 for their first child. We worked out that at least fifteen of us had it as 'our cot' over the years. Last used for my DD, now 14.

Itchintobestitchin · 03/02/2023 00:29

A black wide toothed comb that was free with a magazine in 1984 or 5. Used daily.

A Morphy Richards steam iron that was free with my first order from a catalogue, possibly Great Universal, in 1986. Used every week.

Storage jars, copper bottomed pots, china dinner set, all free from my mother, and dating back to the mid 50s. All used daily.

Flidina · 03/02/2023 06:53

A plastic measuring jug I bought moving into my first flat, in 1982, still in use everyday.
A Moulineux electric knife, I paid £1 for at a car boot sale 25 years ago, still in regular use.
A Phillips iron, paid £1, 10 years ago, probably lasted as doesn't get much use now days! 😂
A set of stainless steel pans from Wilkinsons, again 25 years old, still used daily.

NorthernSoul55 · 03/02/2023 10:03

An Argos Value electric hand mixer that previously belonged to my mum, who died 25 years ago. No idea how long she had it.

xogossipgirlxo · 03/02/2023 10:16

Sainsbury's toaster. 10 quid. Had it for 7 years of every day use. Don't get Smeg etc. hype. Mine wasn't that pretty, but costed 140 quid less.
Some Primark clothes, same for jeans from H&M etc. Would never buy Levi's if jeans for 25 quid last me 5-7 years.

GuyFawkesDay · 04/02/2023 16:54

I have a Wilko hand mixer I paid under a tenner for twenty years ago. Still going strong

FizzyStream · 04/02/2023 17:01

We have a cheap steamer from Tesco that's been going about ten years. Our dishwasher is also ten years old and is still going strong and that wasn't particularly expensive. Been through washing of kids bottles etc. My husband is fastidious in cleaning and maintaining stuff though so I think that helps.

My ex sister in law is the opposite and used to go through a lawnmower and vacuum cleaner every year as she just misused stuff and didn't look after or clean anything.

This clothes rack

What cheap item have you bought that has stood the test of time?
Goingforasong · 04/02/2023 17:56

I have a bright orange Kenwood hand mixer that clearly dates from the 1970s (when orange was very fashionable) and is still going strong. I can't remember what it cost (it wouldn't have been a lot) but it must be my best value kitchen gadget.

onwardandupwards · 04/02/2023 19:23

A morphy Richards hair dryer I got for my 18th, im now 40 and its used every other day!

Babdoc · 04/02/2023 19:49

A 50p large casserole dish still going strong from 1978.
A clock radio from 1982, which still works fine but I am finally scrapping because it doesn’t have DAB, nor can it charge my phone.
A Tesco dinner service from 1983.
A double bed from 1981.
A Victorian dressing table we picked up for a fiver in 1977.
And a music system (record deck, multi cd player, radio, cassette player) from 1983.

MrsRinaDecker · 04/02/2023 22:44

I was telling my mum at Christmas that I still use her old tins to make my mince pies, guessing they were circa 1970’s. Turns out they belonged to her mum, so most likely 1940’s! I still use them every Christmas, and also any time I make jam tarts as well.

ALongHardWinter · 13/02/2023 22:44

An egg poacher that I inherited from my late DM. I can remember her using it all through my childhood. When she died 11 years ago,I found it tucked away in the back of one her kitchen cupboards,so I took it home. By my reckoning it must be at least 55 years old! It works brilliantly,it's the only egg poacher I've used where the eggs don't stick to the cups! No idea how much it cost new,but was probably bought around 1967,so was probably a couple of shillings!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 13/02/2023 23:01

A Tesco dinner service from 1983.

Can we see it? I want to relive my childhood.

Nanatokidsdogshampsters · 13/02/2023 23:04

My ironing board.
Got from an advert in the local paper for £2 in 1979.
It was brand new. My first item for my 'bottom drawer'.

Fizbosshoes · 13/02/2023 23:17

When my DD moved from a cot to a bed I bought a really cheap (because I was on a tight budget) synthetic argos duvet. She's 16 and still uses it. It got washed almost daily during one summer holiday when she was not dry at night (it dried almost instantly after being washed)
When my dad died a couple of years ago, there was a nice John Lewis feather duvet at his house, so I brought it back for her. She rejected it in favour of the cheapy argos duvet, "because it was too noisy!"
