Tesco delivery pass pretty much useless now

Is anyone finding the same? Tesco used to have loads of slots and loads of products. I weighed it up and decided I was happy to pay slightly over the odds for the convenience.

However, it's got worse and worse. About 50% of what I want is unavailable, and the products that are available are 50% more expensive in some cases.

Is this the case with all the supermarkets now (I've been in a Tesco bubble for a few years so might be shocked to find they're all the same)? I'm considering giving up the delivery pass and getting back in to Aldi.

I usually use Tesco but sometimes Morrisons as they have better slot availability. I still find Tesco has a wider range (though Morrisons does better fish, and the fruit is consistently good), and they both seem to have some things missing. I assume it’s supply chain issues due to the war in Ukraine.

handmademitlove · 02/08/2022 07:02

How far in advance are you booking slots? With delivery saver, slots are released about a month ahead so I book holding shops in advance. Never a problem and rarely have an issue if I need to move them as long as I am not trying to book for the next day.

AnyFucker · 02/08/2022 07:03

Morrisons is not brilliant. Lots of unavailable items. Last minute substitutions. Cheaper own brand stuff not even on the site at all. Time keeping not consistent.

I get it free though (NHS) so I stick with it for now. If they start to charge again, I will be off.

lawandgin · 02/08/2022 07:04

I book them a month in advance and never have problems getting the slot I want. There have been some supply issues, but I'm seeing that with other supermarkets too.

Sirzy · 02/08/2022 07:06

I have had no issues hooking slots, I generally book one as soon as they come available but just looked and could get one for tomorrow if I wanted to.

I have also had no more supply issues from there than from anywhere else

lightisnotwhite · 02/08/2022 07:13

I haven’t found this at all ( SE). Subs and not available are rare.
Our depot store isn’t the same as the nearest store and if anything is out of stock in the delivery, my local store tends to have it.

I’d move to whoever is working well in your area. I do think Tescos have one of the better online systems though. Being able to change items until late the night before and lots of ways to fill your basket ie favourites, past orders, suggestions for things you have forgotten……expect they’ll “upgrade” it soon to something that works less well now I’ve said that!

Schooldil3ma · 02/08/2022 07:20

I used to buy some of their very cheap stuff, Hubbards Cupboards or suchlike I think it's called. They seem to have disappeared from online availability, is it just not worth their while delivering it maybe? It's definitely available in store as when I go in it's there - it's a megastore type place my delivery gets picked from.
If I go to My Favourites about 50% would be unavailable.

@AnyFucker I'm NHS too, I didn't realise Morrisons are doing a deal, is it free delivery?

It must be area dependent. I book a slot on Mon or Tuesday for the Friday and always have a choice of every single slot. When I have forgotten to book one and booked on a wed or thurs I can still choose from almost all the slots.
We get occasional subs or unavailable but not very many

keepingwarm5623 · 02/08/2022 07:30

I have found this with favourites and a lot of the time it is due to manufacturers changing their packaging, such as pack of 10x19g chocolate bars being changed to 10x17g. The 19g ones will come up as not available rather than suggesting the new one. Could it be that?

1frenchfoodie · 02/08/2022 07:34

If you are considering switching Ive got Sainsbury’s and Morrisons.

Morrisons was chosen for fish/meat choice but it is not worth it, they have missing items all the time, dont flag short date items even if delivering multiple packs of meat with the next days date on.

Sainsbury’s is so much better - swaps/ missing items really rare as are short life items. And they have a ‘discover’ feature on the website that often has freebie codes. Slot availability is good near me - often next day - but can need more planning elsewhere. But you can just bung £40 of holding items in for a slot then update up to 11pm the day after.

ShipwreckSunset · 02/08/2022 07:39

No issues with slots or subs here. I am finding more items out of stock so can’t actually order though, presume supply chain problems. What I don’t like is that they l in mit the range available online to not include some cheaper alternatives, seems to be more of that recently.

agree with pp that being able to amend order till 11.45 the night before is v helpful, although you may be more organised!

ShipwreckSunset · 02/08/2022 07:42

Interested to give sainsburys a go, can you easily select regular items from the app? Might try them after delivery pass runs out.

gogohmm · 02/08/2022 07:55

Dsd drives for a supermarket and they spend a lot of time sitting around, nowhere near enough customers

ChachiChichi · 02/08/2022 07:56

I use Asda. Always slots available and hardly ever any subs. Decent dates on fresh stuff too.

Sweetmotherofallthatisholyabov · 02/08/2022 07:57

Forget your favourites and search. Loads of things have had sneaky price increases so the product size has changed and they're a different code now. I've had that with Pringles, Tropicana, dishwasher tablets, loads of stuff.

wonkylegs · 02/08/2022 07:57

If you go in the supermarkets at the moment there is lots missing - doesn't seem to matter if I go to Morrisons, Tesco or Sainsburys (I'm not a faithful shopper) they all look like they are waiting for a lorry to turn up. It's been like that for a bit. Supply chain issues due to brexit, Ukraine, workforce and global delays are really showing now.

KangarooKenny · 02/08/2022 07:59

Tesco has loads of slots where I am.
Had just 2 items not avail on my last delivery, but they didn’t replace either.

wonkylegs · 02/08/2022 07:59

It's not a worrying level of 'no food available' just an annoying level with a lack of choice that we have been used to.

Iliveonahill · 02/08/2022 08:00

I booked a slot yesterday at 6pm for free delivery this morning. All items available

RIPWalter · 02/08/2022 08:05

I live in a tourist area and even currently over the summer, so long as I book ahead I have no problem getting a slot. If I book 3 weeks ahead I am guarenteed my prefered slot, sometime if I forget and book a week or two ahead I end up with the slot either side of my prefered slot.

Stock avalibility seems to be quite variable at the moment, i just assumed this was how it was going to be for a long while now with brexit and the Ukraine war. Also when all the fridges and freezers went down in the heat wave there were obviously massive issues, but that affected not only Tesco (also Aldi and I assume others).

hedgehoglurker · 02/08/2022 08:28

I pay for my delivery saver with clubcard points, which they triple the value of. I think it's about £15 worth of vouchers for 6 months, so it's not difficult to get good value from it.

Can k ask how you do this ? I didn’t realise it was an option.

Pasadenadreaming · 02/08/2022 08:43

I use both tesco and asda but often find it harder to get the fresh stuff I want from tesco. Booking a slot is fine but shopping can be frustrating when they have zero salad items available for example. It's not substitutions that are the problem, it's the products being available online to select in the first place. There have been times I've ended up cancelling tesco orders and ordered from Asda instead who seem to be far better stocked. Fresh fruit and veg are the things I find hardest to get.

AnyFucker · 02/08/2022 09:43

@Schooldil3ma yes, Morrisons have been doing the free delivery pass all through covid for NHS. I used to pay 60 quid a year.

You exchange vouchers for Rewards on the app or website. One of the available rewards is Delivery Pass Disney Plus is great value too - £6 clubcard vouchers for 3 months I think.

Exchange the amount (or close as possible) to the cost of your chosen delivery saver. You'll get an email with a voucher code, then when you order your next delivery saver you can use the voucher code.
